Salt Creek-Bluegrass Banjo

- Salt Creek is a great tune to play out at jams, super fun to play! This tune comes from the Scots-Irish/oldtime fiddle tune, named Salt River. Someone once told me that Salt Creek was renamed by Bill Monroe after the actual Salt Creek in Indiana where he first played music professionally. This tune lays out on the banjo fingerboard really well and you can pop in some scruggs licks and melodic style runs! I tried to play this fast and then slow, but my slow didn't end up being that slow! Oh well, Just in case you don't know, you can adjust the tempo even further with the little wheel at the bottom right hand side of the screen. Thanks for watching!

I find banjo music as comforting as raining sound , dunno why - love it
Stelling ,Stellar!
I cannot believe I’m watching this beautiful banjo performance. I loved this and I’ve never even heard “bluegrass” music before.
I grew up playing heavy metal and hard rock, evolved to Texas style blues and Southern Rock in my 30s, Folk strumming songs in my 40s...
Closing in this summer on 50 (😢)...
On advice of friend, I tried to play lead over a “Bluegrass” backing track. I probably sounded like a heavy metal or blues guitarist who had no idea what he’s doing.
But I LOVED it!!!!
I am not a farmer, no boots or belt buckles, and I wouldn’t go near cows if you paid me (I do like the movie Urban Cowboy though!)...
BUT there is something so different and intriguing about this genre of music consisted to ANYTHING I’ve ever done on guitars, drums, or piano.
I think I want to try a banjo someday!
Thank you for this wonderful video and you are an amazing banjo player. 🪕😊
Love it. Especially the slower pace.

Awesome Hilary, you really know your way around the banjo.
This is great
I swear I've listened to every version of this song on the internet and this is one of my favorites. I just love your taste in the licks you chose for this arrangement, it's so nice. Definitely been spending some time learning some of them. Cheers, hope you have a good 2023.
I've watched this video many times, and yes for the banjo playing. Is the tab available to share. Love your banjo playing.
Nice job! 🎼🎵👍
This is awesome! Thanks for putting this lesson together!
very cool! Excellent rendition, excellent execution! Thank you for sharing~
Beautiful. You and the banjo playing
really nice and very smooth.
Nice job Hilary! That is a great jam tune. I've been picking that one for years and it's always fun to see how other people play it. No one does it the same as anyone else. That's what's so great about music!
I am working on this song Scruggs style like you. Wow, you are good! Thank you, Richard c/o Prince George Old Time Fiddlers.
SUPERB!
Love it!
Why do I feel like bagpipes would go well with this???

Hilary
I love this song. When I was a Professor over in West Virginia, I picked up a banjo, and learned this song, but I like your version much better. Surely it will not take long to fine tune. I sure would like to meet you sometime. What an inspiration you are.
Great playing! I play this song as well, but a different version. The variety of ways the same song can be played is crazy.
You nailed this. Thanks!
Would be interested to hear you play that in G and A. Just for curiosity. Ha

Hillary what a wonderful player you are : ) a very nice tempo and it is silk smooth the way you touch the strings
Any tabs for this? AWESOME!!👍
I love your banjo too! It looks like a Stelling Red Fox. Is that right? I have a Red Fox too!
WOW💜💙💚💛❤
I read somewhere that Big Sandy River and Salt River was too confusing, so they choose to relabel it Salt Creek. It's certainly different *MONORED* enough from the original.
❤❤
Wonderful. Any tips for a beginner such as introductory books or anything for picking up technique? Thanks.
