This is wonderful. Steve Martin is an American treasure and bluegrass captures the true soul of America. Bravo!
Amen
100%. Steve Martin is my favorite. Love that guy!
It's good he decided to learn banjo to become a legend in bluegrass, because he was far from a legend in comedy
The KING
As mandolin player I so enjoyed this session. One word "tight"
Check out Sierra Hull, she is the bees knees ;)
@@aportilla007Piggybacking off this to say that Sierra is playing mandolin in this session, and plays with the likes of Béla Fleck and Edgar Meyer a lot too.
This is how country's supposed to sound. ❤
I am 71 years old and just found Bluegrass Banjo music. I have listened to this video probably fifty times in the past week. I wear bluetooth hearing aids and stream audio directly from my MacBook. Sounds exactly like I'm in a concert hall. Totally incredible....
Steve Martin: a verifiable renaissance man extraordinaire.
And certified baddie
Solid dude for sure.
Wonderfully warm and cheery which is what we need in these troubled times❤️❤️❤️🎵🎵🎵🎶🎵👍😁🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Any group including Sierra Hull in which she doesn't get top billing is a VERY good group. And this is magic music here.
😂 Haha. Insert "Stuart Duncan" "Chris Eldridge".. still works 👍
It's a shame Justin Moses wasn't there as well. Justin would have been the reason I stopped to listen.
I mean…. even a group with her getting top billing is pretty good, too.
Magical playing
Alison and Steve Martin, with added help on this marvellous tune
Gonna be playing this track again and again it’s so damn good
@@paulelliott3220 I first saw Allison and Stewart when she was 16 and he was 14 at the festival in Hugo Ok (1978) when they came over to compete as a band in the contest (the rest of their band of kids was still in LA). They were impressive then but lost because the singing wasn't as impressive. Best instrumentalists not on the bill. Met Lynn Morris there too when she did the same thing out of Colorado the year before. Fond memories of that festival.
That is a whale of a piece. Gentle, soft and smooth and still complex. Kentucky Bourbon on strings!
I love how you described that!
I’m going to comment this in public, with my name, in case it ever gets back to Steve Martin. “That felt good…” “…Sure”. That’s the same vibe I got when I heard him say “I’ve been playing since the 60s. I should be better. I know.”
Man…you are better. You played with Earl Scruggs. You’re playing with Alison Brown. You got me out of my chair learning clawhammer. You’re a transformational banjo player. You’re a transformational musician. Don’t question that.
Steve Martin just became even cooler to me!
Sierra Hull is a huge star in her own right.
Well said Charles!
Quite so Charles! This performance sure cements that in place, how is so much talent in the same room, wow!!
I love you the most with a banjo, Steve Martin.
Oh Steve…what a joy it is…
That is some of the happiest sounding music I have ever heard.
I liked seeing Mr. Martin doing comedy through the years, but I love it even more seeing him pickin the Banjo. To both of you I thank you for the great entertainment.
Tremendous respect for Steve Martin. Thank You Alison for sharing this wonderful session.
Saw SM live touring his album in Portland, great show.
Excellent. Steve Martin ages like a fine wine.
This was just BEAUTIFUL. These are some of the greatest musicians alive today.
Only banjos in the building at Hillbilly Central ❤️❤️
Wholesome.
This what makes America great ,,, all star crew ,,, all star recording ,,, classy ,, original,,,
from Canada
Has Steve Martin not aged in the last 20 years? Like, he just stopped. Proof that playing the banjo keeps you young.
The great Sierra hull on mandolin
Bluegrass always makes me happy.
MAGNIFICENT!!
what a magical journey!!!
I am a metal head, but every time I hear this, my eyes seem to leak. Kuddos to Mr Martin and Ms Brown Great song!!!!
Steve Martin has been my favorite performer since the early 70s. Such and incredible actor, comedian and banjo player!!!!
Steve Martin is also a noted author as well as a comedian. The best question about him is what does he not do brilliantly: a real Renaissance Man... 😊
I had just been listening to this song. I knew Steve was on it, but Hull and Eldridge? That is crazy
Love the little smile on Steve's face at about 00:33... like he knows it's going to be fun.
You get down the fiddle and you get down the bow and you kick off your shoes and throw them on the floor !! And you get out the banjo 🪕 and you do it some more !!! Louisiana Saturday night !! Colorado Saturday night !! Wyoming Saturday night !! AMERICAN SATURDAY NIGHT !!!
Beautiful arrangement there. Alison was right about the clawhammer banjo melding with the three finger picking. Exquisite !
Steve doing a bit of Grandpa Jones here!
May God grant Steve Martin "almost" eternal life, I cannot image this world without his contributions to music continuing for many, many years.
What a beautiful, gentle melody. Song? For some reason, took me back to my youth and became a soundtrack for some old film video I have of yself and friends waterskiing and swimming at a lake hear my hometown in western New York State. Thank you all.
I was shocked but super happy to see Sierra Hull included. Great video.
Steve Martin, writer of “The Jerk,” my favorite movie. Incredible musician. So inspiring, all these folks!
It was never easy for him. He was born a poor black child! 😀 (But at least he had a special purpose, and his name in the phone book.)
And star of the hit CBS show Brazzos
The mandolin-to-fiddle transition, from 1:20 - 1:30, especially the overlap, is simply gorgeous
There are very few things better than a really good jam session.
Way cool folks. These people are great musicians. ❤ ❤ ❤
Really great to see someone writing new Bluegrass music and not just redoing the older (but great) music.
Great gathering of musicians. Thanks for putting this up! Glad Steve is still active with music.
Got out the dobro and played along. Nice way to start the day with some great ear candy. Thanks.❤
Perfect song to start your day.
Steve Martin, rad. Y'all didn't mention Sierra Hull, Stuart Duncan, and Critter!!!
Yeah, and you didn't mention Todd Phillips, the best of the best.
Only Banjos in the Building ❤️
This was awesome.
Thanks 👍🙏
He writes his own music notation, too?!!? Cool. The guy is a genius.
Steve Martin is the epitome of what it meant to be a creative genius. Creativity comes in many forms so it’s natural for a creative artist to flow from one medium to another. Steve does with with great aplomb. This was the gift many movie stars of old had. Today it’s a rare gift most have no depth.
Loving the happy concentration on all your faces. Great song!
Hello 👋 how're you doing?
What a fantastic group this is! And this is the first time I've seen Steve Martin playing clawhammer style. Love it!
I expect wonderful music from those artists... and always will, because they are great artists... to hear that level of artistry from Steve is both surprising and delighting...
I didn't know he could play, let alone at that level... Wow... all around...
What a great Tune! Thanks GratefulWeb for alerting me to this!
Steve Martin is a true artist and entertainer. Great video.
I love Steve's passion for the banjo and Bluegrass music.
What a fantastic group of musicians! ❤
Welp now I'm crying. Thanks for reminding me why I do this!
I want to add my compliments to this wonderful performance. They are such talented musicians and bring joy to us during troubling times. Thanks. 🥰
always thought Steve Martin was a great actor and comedian but the first time I found out he was a great banjo player I was so amazed and still am he is so talented in everything he does god bless him for the gifts he gives us with what has given him
A great song played by super great musicians (or rather super great pickers.) I loved every note of it 😊
669th NEW subscriber LIKE, 21,780th desktop Bluegrass fan view - remember seeing this fiddler when he was with The Pendleton Pickers with John Moore.
Hello from SoCal. And Steve Martin needs no introduction.
Go Steve and Alison!!! I love it all, from Bluegrass to Heavy Metal. Stringed instruments are just a blast!
Same, I'm a 63YO metalhead who also loves any skilled musician's work.
It's cool to see Todd, Stuart and Allison together, having seen them in different bands in the San Francisco Bay area decades ago when they were just starting. Steve is a multi talented guy. Thanks for this!
Great video! I enjoyed watching these great musicians play!
I have always loved Alison Brown's musicianship. She is a very unique banjoist imho. And Stuart Duncan is my favorite all around musician in the whole wide world. EVERYONE here is a gift. I better go check out the album.
As an aspiring banjo player, I loved seeing Alison and Steve working in the studio. Man, they are super good.
As a long-time sound guy at my church, I have to give a shout out to John Villarosa. Beautiful mix!
Good Stuff!!! Great Tune!!! - 👍
you just cant be unhappy when a banjo, mandolin and a fiddle are around.
And my respect for Steve Martin as a banjo player just grew a bunch.

Wonderful! Professionals every one. I haven’t given Steve enough credit in the past for how good he actually is.
Love this! Just Scooby Doo marvellous.
I don’t buy a lot of CDs, but I’m buying this one!!! 👏👏👏👏
So good! Banjo sound is happy music, with that soft base and brilliant mandolin, fantastic!
Probably watched this 50 times and every one I hear something new and like it even more - the concentration on Steve Martin's face is perfect. When all he instruments come in together the way their lines intertwine to create harmonious whole is just genius and very uplifting. If there is one U-tub vid to get newcomers interested in the banjo this is it. Congratulations to all. Just superb.
Wonderful way to start my day!😊
Awesome!!! Always left smiling after banjos play. Double that when Steve Martin is a part of the performance.
Suddenly the skies cleared when the band started playing.
Sent to me by my brother and it was the first thing I listened to this morning. Loved it and the focus. I just took up the banjo and hope one day to play just a hundredth as well as this crew.
I am sure you will. Keep practising and never give in to frustration.
Love that Chris Eldridge is also in this. He is probably one of the best guitar players around (Punch Brothers, etc.) and pops up when you least expect him!
Absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you so much for sharing your gifts with us. You add so much value to our lives with your art.
Brought a ray of sunshine to my day! Love it! Will listen many times over!
Jus Smilin Here.
Quite a mix of styles in one song
This tune is new to me
Marvelous
I'm not used to mellow instrumental Bluegrass
Who else clicked on this thinking it was Foggy Mountain Breakdown?
You’re right! I read it too quickly. Glad I clicked on it though
Me too! But it's still a nice tune for the banjo.
Like it tho
Nope. I clicked on it because of Steve with Alison Brown. No matter the song, it's going to be great.
What an amazing dreamteam and a beautiful performance
Thanks for sharing.
Always enjoy Steve Martin as a comedian 👍, actor and musician. He's a true talent.
Wow, just wow.....
Thanfully, you tube is full of this wonderful genre. With so many young pickers, like Sierra, the future of bluegrass in talented , capable hands. And if you get a chance to hit a festival and see these people jamming with each other you will be blessed.
❤❤ wow ❤❤
Lovely stuff, thanks for posting the video.
Nice to see you pickin n grinnin Steve
WOW - just WOW! What an ensemble! Thank you!!!
That's a pretty amazing "Back up" band with Stuart Duncan, Chris Eldridge (son of Bluegrass Royalty Ben Eldridge), Sierra Hull! GEEZ So good!
Steve Martin has become my inspiration for playing the banjo. His interviews help me to feel positive as I'm a beginner and it's hard but I'm practicing every day. I also like the way he plays.
Loved it!! Great job!!
Such lovely musicianship from everyone involved. I could listen to this for days.
