Jim, I’m 64, just starting banjo and was lucky enough to find you and what a gift you are to me! I hope I find more videos of you giving this kind of instruction, it’s awesome!
I just watched your beginner banjo series, and I've wanted to play banjo FOREVER. Finally bought myself one and was so happy to be able to play a tune. Thanks!
Thanks Jim. I’ve been working on the banjo since March. I’ve played guitar since I was a kid and have had a bottlecap banjo sitting around since the late 80’s. Got inspired to learn It because my FIL wants to learn and I said I would learn it with him. I did your beginner lessons and have learned most of the “learn these next” tunes. Was getting ready to go back and expand on Cripple Creek so this is very timely. Thanks for the efforts to put these together. I really enjoy your teaching style.
You the man Jim. Picked up the banjo after a few years of playing guitar due to my grandfathers passing. He left me an assortment of things and one of them was a beautiful Denver belle, Alvarez and Remo banjo. After watching your beginner series and picking it up quickly I wanted to learn cripple creek the fast way because it feels to me like I was born to play banjo.
Bought a banjo about 6 months ago ( have picked a few other instruments in the past ) - but have had more fun and leaned more Thanks to you Jim ! Strangely enough, playing the banjo has helped with my arthritis in right hand fingers ( don’t have to hold a bow or pick). I appreciate all you do Sir !
Thanks Jim. I learned to play cripple creek in your beginner class, (thank you so much), and now I am really enjoying this video learning some new embellishments for this fun to play song. You're the best!
Thank you! I just got a banjo, and I just found you. I’ve been looking at many lessons with different people, yours is the best and easiest to learn!!!! You are a hero to me now!!!
O learned this from you a few years ago and I didn't know about the variety of rolls. Thank you. It gives me a different flavor for this song. It felt like alot of repeating in the past. Now it doesn't.
I recently just bought my very first banjo. I've always wanted to play guitars and things as a kid and am now just starting my intrument journey with the wonderful sound of the South. Thank you for your amazing videos. They are very well done and extremely beginner friendly! ❤
Thank you! Just in time, my mentors directed me to the Scruggs book! Looking forward to walking w you! Got my rolls down 50%:) Your short vids got me started w necked picking.. “no picks”.. then my jam group said “make up my mind and put some picks on”! I had claw-hammered for three years. Enjoying the journey as a blessing! Some of the mentors have played for 65 years. Hanging w them a much as possible before they leave us! Thanks again for adding to our craft!
Hey Jim, I have had the privilege of finding you on my journey trying to learn how to play the banjo. I'm not there yet buy boy I've learned a lot from you. Thank you so much..cheers Bernie from 🇨🇦
I really enjoyed this video. Wanted to learn cripple a while ago so I looked around until I found banjo in a minute and I learn the simple version, but this video allows me to easily space it up now that I already know the basic parts
My place is close to Cripple Creek VA and we always sang a part of the song as we drove across it as a kid on the way or back from visiting the grandparents. Still do though the grandparents are gone so learning this one is a goal for this beginner.
Hi Jim! I've been follwing along with all of your beginner lessons as I was fortunate enough to be gifted a Deering Goodtime from a classmate but had no clue how to play it. I'm not sure if you take requests but I have been scowering the internet to find a tutorial video for the banjo section of Charleston Girl by Tyler Childers as it seems there is hardly anything out there. If you give the song a listen and enjoy it maybe I will one day see it on the channel! Regardless, I love your work and I am extremely grateful that you are here to help me in my banjo journey.
At first I was like "wait just a stinkin' minute this again?", but this includes a lot of little stuff that it sounds like Earl did a lot of. Managed to figure most of it out myself but still learned some new tricks! Great video.
JIM we don't like it We US banjo learners LOVE it.ive had banjo players tell me and my age is 58 why didn't you learn earlier in life to play.and my replay 🎶 does age help a bottled wine yes it does .you can learn you've proved that thanks so much.still not comfortable with speed but clean medium or slower.thank you so much ✌️👍
Hey Jim, thanks to you I have been learning cripple creek and foggy mountain breakdown for two weeks now and i am making good progress. The only thing I notice is my picks make a scraping sound on the strings and I am finding it hard to get rid of that sound.
Hi Jim. I have been enjoying your banjo lessons and have learned quite a bit from you. You mentioned going to your site to find more instructions, particularly an easy version of Beverly Hillbillies tune. Can you direct me there? I am having a hard time finding it. Thank you.
Hey Jim! Been taking your lessons for some time and appreciate everything. I did not like my banjo because it did not seem to have an "authentic" sound. I recorded myself for the first time and I guess, like hearing your own voice, it was completely different. But amazing!! Any thoughts on why that is? Thanks again!
Had to give up banjo due to carpal tunnel problems then surgery and recovery. Started back now after the many year layoff and have chosen Cripple Creek as my first tune to relearn. Not much of a musical person so public exhibitions are not a thing. 65 and public isn’t my thing. Just enjoy trying. Is there an up the neck version ??? Have been looking and have not found it so far
Hey! I hope all is well for you man, I don’t own a banjo yet, but Christmas is coming around, and I want a banjo so bad. Is there any particular type of banjo you would recommend for a beginner? I want preferably a resonator, and one that will last me awhile. I play guitar, will that make the learning curve any easier? I love your videos! Your good!! 👍
So this isn't the same cripple Creek though right? The other one is the slow gospel version with lyrics? This is just fast and no lyrics? I've been stuck on this
Gospel? This is Cripple Creek. It’s the only one I know of. There are lyrics, I cover that in a different video. ruclips.net/video/9pvodVbVF5A/видео.htmlsi=AJPFaj9txioNfgGa

Great lesson Jim,Although i don`t know which is hardest. The lesson or pausing the video using my mouse with 3 finger picks on.
LOL. The struggle with picks is real. :)

I recorded myself for the first time and I guess, like hearing your own voice, it was completely different. But amazing!! Any thoughts on why that is? Thanks again!
That’s awesome! You’re probably just hearing things in a new way. Enjoy your progress!

Welcome back to the banjo! I rarely play an up the neck break for cripple creek, but a lot of people use parts of Banjo in the Hollow for it.

I bought an rk-35 recording king was thinking about upgrading to the elite what’s the difference?
Specs are on the RK website, but the main difference that isn’t cosmetic is the longer scale length on the the Elite
So this isn't the same cripple Creek though right? The other one is the slow gospel version with lyrics? This is just fast and no lyrics? I've been stuck on this
