A lot of getting hired is also dependent on the principal. And yes, male and female. Some want you to show more empathy while others want you to be more firm. I was an IA for 5 years before getting a teaching job. My interviews were all dependent on emotion. For example, one school turned me down because i was cpi certified which some schools look down upon. A lot of little things like that add up. But overall its a good gig and you can do other things with all that time off during breaks and summer.
Being a parent at an elementary school for a couple of years now, I’m very wary of people who are a bit too smiley. Smiles should come from within and are a sign of the peace and happiness within that person. Forced smiles and fake laughter can easily be seen through, especially by children. Overall body language is what I believe people are really perceiving and absorbing.
I agree children can see if a person is good, kind, and genuine. As a parent and educator it's good to be attentive as well as open to different people within the field. We all try to bring that special sparkle to our children and staff. A smile can go a long way especially when our students are having a hard day. It helped me when I was around teachers who were positive, supported, welcoming, and who genuinely cared for the staff and the students.
Your words are kind and wise. I found this video very useful since I'm having an interview for an Instructional Assistant position tomorrow, so thank you very much!
@@user-ko7os1ig1s I was too nervous and didn't end up going. I still needed more experience so I got a job as a preschool teacher to get more experience in the classroom field. It's been going well :)
This video was very helpful. Thank you! I was wondering for the interview am I allowed to have notes next to me so I can glance at it and don’t forget things that I want to say?
Hi Kanwal, I had a paper resume with me to refer to it. You could read your notes before the interview. No one is perfect, and just remember it's normal to forget things to say. For me just coming to the interview excited, and smiling really helped with calming my nerves 😊 Thank you for your kind comment, and I'm glad it helped 😊
Thank you so much for this video! I find it super informative. Do you recommend contacting the school you are interested in? In my district positions are pooled so we cannot directly apply with a particular school. Thanks in advance.
Hey Aisha, I'm currently doing a job application and one of the required documents for me to complete my application is to do the Instructional Aide Written Test. I have no idea what that is or how to access it. I have tried looking at the site and I've searched it on the web but I still only find practice tests for it while I don't even know where or how I take the test. Are you familiar with my situation?
Hi Raymond, I wish I could help, but I'm not sure how to access the written test. I didn't take one for the IA position at my district. I would recommend contacting the district you are applying for, and ask any questions. Best of luck!
Hey Raymond, I don't know if this will be too late but I'm also currently applying and had to take an instructional assistant test. What I did was I contacted someone from the district I'm applying too. On the job listing I was looking at it had a number and email of someone to contact in case we had questions. I'd suggest looking to see if you can find anything like that or like Aisha said, try contacting the district.
@@gemita. Hey Gema, I just applied for this position and I have to take the written test I really want this but my spelling is bad and writing in general gives me anxiety. Do you have any tips or advise?
@@sindivazquez2751 Hey Sindi, I can relate. My spelling has never really been the best. When I took the test I noticed that the majority of not all of it was multiple choice when it came to spelling, writing, math, etc. I would suggest going online and looking for a study guide. Before I took my test I looked it up online and it gave me a detailed guide of what would be on the test with examples and answers. That's what helped me feel more prepared and less nervous. Even if you just glance over it, it'll make a big difference because you'll have an idea of what to expect.
I have taken this type of test. You can just know it's basic skills, like for example if it's elementary school level, those will be the kind of questions. If it's middle and high school questions they will be tailored to the ages you'll work with. Also situations and how you'd handle them.
Hi Crystal, I'm not really sure, that's a good question. For my school we have counselors who assist in behavioral support. As an aide there are times I find myself helping students on their mental health, psychological and social development skills, but on a small scale. My job mostly consist of yard duty, cafeteria duty, and helping in the classrooms. If you're curious about becoming a behavioral support specialist maybe pick a school nearby, and call to see if they have any information for a bss. Hope that helps! :)
