@@robotjeans Nope, incorrect. I watched an interview with Chris Shiflett who discussed the the future including a new Foo album (drummer unknown). The band will go on. Enjoy!
Rufus is part of the Foo family he’s been around all of them since he was young. Breaks my heart seeing him break down but I noticed after he was banging harder. He is perfect in every way
From that distance, during the instrumental break, with Dave back there facing Rufus, almost playing to him rather than with him, it was almost like it was Taylor. Rufus has called Taylor his mentor along with his own father and you can see it. I love him with The Darkness but if they choose to move forward with another drummer it HAS to be him, there is absolutely a part of Taylor in Rufus...
He told Justin Hawkins that his dad took him to a Foos show when he was 12. He saw his dad whisper to Taylor and Taylor answered with "Fuck yeah I will!" . Watching Taylor play that night he decided he wanted to follow in his old man's footsteps. Roger asked Taylor to be his Godfather.
Dave's body language as he turns back to mic after Rufus breaks down is so telling and heartbreaking, Taylor will never be there again. Taylor will never be behind those drums again .
I was there for this. At 7:00, I don’t there was a totally dry eye in the place. Even the drunk bros behind me were like 🥺 This performance was so powerful. The whole night was powerful.
This one was the hardest for me. By this time of the night, Dave's voice was wrecked...and Rufus was so emotional the whole time. I will remember this one forever. It will always make me cry. They put so much in this. Yikes! Thank you, Thank you for sharing this!
I agree, would luv to see Rufus become apart of the Foos!!! I know, I have said it before, he has his own band; but, geez, Taylor was his mentor, what can I say....luv Rufus!!! Miss you Taylor!!!
Bro I'm trying to listen to this without crying and it's getting really hard lol being there that night was absolutely incredible...the emergy in the whole stadium-you could just feel it. Like we were all screaming out the pent up hurt and sadness we had for hearing our belvoed Taylor was gone. And you see it here too-you see it here too.
Freese has a very different groove though. I agree that Rufus has the feel and the accuracy of the parts (and a generally similar vibe). I suppose it depends on whether they'd pinch a drummer from another band
Rufus is an amazing drummer, he has the style that Taylor had, but Taylor has gone (way too soon), and I don't think Foo's can ever be the same again. Not for me anyway. RIP Taylor Hawkins x
I understand the craving for this - the look, the technique, the tattoo - he's his Godson FFS - but let's just remember that Rufus already has a job. Nobody knows where they're going from here (maybe even including Dave) so maybe we just let things play out as they will once emotions have settled down a little.
Taylor already had a job too.. I believe the Foos will keep going after sufficient grieving. Rufus is "family" as Dave describes him..He was right behind Shane Hawkins at a both performances, could be seen comforting him, and Shane was behind him when he played.. When Shane finished My Hero at Wembly, Rufus was the fist person to embrace him with a truly loving hug. His style is very different than Taylor, which is good. It would be a mistake to try to find someone who played like Taylor, as they would never live up to the standard he set. Taylor is irreplaceable. Rufus fits in like a member of a symphony, not overshadowing, but complementing the Foos. His different style fits and will help the Foos continue to take their sound in new but positive directions. Watch the London concert and see all of the loving looks from the Foos, including Pat, who both turned to encourage him and gave him a personal ovation when he was done.. Watch Dave really getting in synch with him during "Best of You" with both performances. Dave worked him out, but was smiling. Watch Rufus break down crying in the LA performance. I was there, close enough to see facial expressions, right above the VIP seats where family were seated on the right side of the stage. Look at the songs Rufus was selected to perform on: One of these Days and Best of You in London. The Foo Fighters are all about chemistry and Rufus has it. He is shy where Taylor was an extrovert. His drum style is different, he is more melodic and blends in like party of a symphony. Just because he has blonde hair does not make him a clone. He is taller, has a different smile, seems shy, and has a humility that is calming like Pat Smear. I am guessing the Foos would want Allison's blessing to carry on and her input as to who took Taylor's place. You can see the warmth between her and Rufus. I know she does not want the music Taylor helped make to fade away. It will be kept alive, and the love will continue. The opposite, and a big mistake would be someone like Travis Barker. He is a good drummer, but just in appearance he does not fit in with the Foos. His style is not in made to be with the Foos., though I wish him a successful career. He was not in synch and rather than being a part of the sound, stood out too much and was somewhat discordant. He also played more with what seemed anger than joy. I doubt his personality would fit either. Of course I would love to see Omar Hakim play with them, as he is more skilled than any drummer on the stage, including Dave,, but he is not family. Nevertheless, he brought joy when I watched him play as well. I think with years, Rufus will progress and play more in the style of Omar. God bless Allison and the Hawkins family. They will all carry the weight of such a devastating loss the remainder of their lives. I hope in time future time, she will speak out on Taylor's mental health issues. He seemed to have it all:: beautiful children, a gorgeous wife, fame, recognition, wealth, talent, respect of his peers, induction into the Rock and Roll hall of fame, but the demons of depression are inexplicable to those who have never lived with them. I get upset reading articles about drugs in his system. Taylor was not an addict, he struggled with chemically based depression. Mental illness can be terminal for many, sometimes more insidious than a cancer, and needs to be de-stigmatized. I say this after a long career directing large mental health programs, and my own struggles. I need anti-depressants to stay alive and feel no same in saying so. Depression is the monster behind the door that jumps out at different times and tries to pull me down. and all that suffers from it. My love to the Hawkins family, The Foo Fighters family, and all who loved Taylor. His loss is a tragedy, but I also rejoice in the love he expressed in life, and the music that will immortalize the essence of who he was as an artist, musician, man, husband, and friend to many.
Shifty done interview few days ago and said he believes they will make another album but there's a lot of healing to do yet before anything decided but now that band have played without Taylor it will either make Dave determined to go on for Taylor and his family or stop in his honour.
@@craig2098 lot of respect to any single word u’ve said. I’m a drummer because of Taylor since he was drumming with Alanis. I don’t know who will be the best after him and I can’t even imagine but I know it won’t be easy. I miss him every day and still can’t believe it happened.
If Taylor could choose anybody to take his seat if band goes forward he'd pick Rufus hands down, but would it be too much having somebody looking and sounding like Taylor up there ?
I don't know. Rufus' dad, Roger and Brian May kept Queen going after Freddie's death. It is about the music. Through the music Rufus can keep the memory of one of his closest friends alive.
Shane’s only 16, and I don’t think Taylor would want him working that hard or obligated to any major band at that age. Allison probably wouldn’t want him to either. He needs to be a kid and take the time to find himself.
@@Chinachik agreed - there are milestones in life which need to be met... Mistakes and wins which are needed to push people forward. It would be hard for Shane to be the young adult on tour with his uncles... I also agree Taylor would want him to live and love life before making such a large commitment at such a young age. Though, I admit - he's an incredible drummer and think someday he would be great at driving the Foo Fighters.
@@amf6217 Agree with both of you. But.... how cool would it be if the Foo Fighters did go back on tour with Rufus behind the kit, and had random appearances by Shane to play 2 or 3 songs at those shows?
They’re both great, but (and it’s too bad that it’d honestly be too much to expect from or wish on a kid), but Shane’s playing has an intensity of feeling already like few drummers can master.
Fingers crossed they can pull Rufus into this band. He would make a perfect replacement, please, please, please!
Perfect choice.
Taylor's grandson who is heavily influenced by Taylor in style. Yes. I agree.
@@KaySBeatty I know what you meant and I know you know, but it's Taylor's godson. :)
I would bet Dave ends the band and moves onto something new.

Rufus is the answer for a drummer going forward. The Foo's need to keep going and making ROCK music. Dave as so much left in him.

I think Justin Hawkins would understand this....but it's a big "IF".
I believe Justin has said exactly that and that he'd support him in doing that

Rufus would complete the circle, I think Josh Feese would be good as well, either I would be happy with if that meant the Foos were back out on tour.
