    I hope the box office success of this movie paves way to a fully-fledged Gundam remake in the form of a complete anime adaptation of the Origin manga.

      The success of this coupled with the sales of HG GTO models of classic gunpla should be enough to convince the powers at be of the potential success of having a remake of the Universal century.

    I loved this film it’s easily the third best Gundam film I watched:
    It’s similarly structured like DBZ movie if the action was only in the beginning & end & if the slice of life stuff was the entirety of the movie it’s YAS Eva 3.0+1.0 slice of life sequence & said @THAT BUT FOR THE WHOLE MOVIE!!!” Honestly I’m thankful towards YAS for everything he did if I had to have one selfish wish I hope he reunites with Tomino & Okuwara for one final Gundam project together.
    But yeah thank you for reading this comment 😇😇😇

    It was actually enlightening to see a good review on this movie that explained the plot and characters well, since I did see the movie too on yt of places funny enough but with no subtitles to really explain what anyone was saying but despite the language barrier, this was still really fun to watch and my understanding of what was happening was thankfully close to what happened on screen. Overall I also really like this movie, seeing the white bas crew and even the residents of cucruruz' island was just really sweet to watch, one thing I did like was the small rivalry Amuro had with the young boy who'd help Doan on the island and eventually they settle their differences and actually have nice interactions for the rest of the movie, I thought it was nice, and I also like the southern cross unit too even if I wish more detail was given about them, especially their dynamics with Doan himself instead of being an obstacle in the end but thats just me. And just one nitpick I have with the movie is that Char, (being decently promoted before the movie came out along with an announcement of a new zaku model) was kinda there for fan service or just to get people in the seats, and yeah I get he wouldn't entirely fit in the movie to play a huge role cause he wasn't a major player until half way into the original series but just the simple 3 to t second cameo was a bit disappointing to me since he just mocks Amuro and then proceeds to buzz off, but it's just a nitpick. But yeah, really good movie, and nice review Cheems! Take all the time needed for your future uploads man, I like your stuff but other things are important too and thats completely understandable, hope you have a good one. :)

    Spoiler reaction
    Loved what they did with Bright, with him struggling with the pressure behind the scenes. Fun to see people taking off without orders treated seriously, when people do it so much in gundam. Awkward Amaro is insanely cute yet feels very in character, as do all the cast.
    Not a fan of them completely removing Doan's backstory, it seems to create a lot of holes (where did he meet these kids, why does he care about them?) the original answered. Unsure if that change is for the better or worse. They gave him a new reason to be on the island that makes him a more generic good guy and feeds into the broader plot of Odessa. I guess his dream could be giving that backstory the way you say?
    The Mobile Suit Breakdown podcast raised some good points about how silly the "scent of war" bit was in the original episode, so I was disappointed they kept it in. A lack of newtype BS is good.

    • @CheemsBased
      @CheemsBased  2 года назад +6

      I do kinda agree with the “scent of war” bit. I get that they’re trying to call back to the original episode but it still feels kinda cheesy.

    • @WorthlessWinner
      @WorthlessWinner 2 года назад +2

      @@CheemsBased - spoiler
      it's not just the line sounding cheesy, but the decision to disarm Doan, as though the weapon was bringing the enemy in to fight him. Which doesn't seem to be the case, he will probably have people coming to fight him and have no way to defend himself now. It probably makes more thematic sense as an anti-nuclear or anti-gun message than it does literal sense.

    • @dart7957
      @dart7957 2 года назад +7

      this is how I interpret the "scent of war" line
      keeping zaku on that island would only "force" doan to fight, even if it was completely unnecessary, no one will know who he is, much less hurt the children for no reason, it is irrational and dangerous for him to want to attack any mobile suit that passes by the island, and will attract more conflicts and put the children in danger, just like he did in the beginning of the movie, the federation would not have sent the white base there, if he had not attacked those GMs
      moreover, I see that whole scene as a "Pass the torch", doan did his job in defending those children from the war, now it is amuro's turn, he must do his part in ending this conflict for those children to have a future, you can notice amuro's resentment during that whole dialogue, him lifting zaku on his back and the scene of the breeze on doan's back, as if amuro is now literally carrying that weight, he does not want this responsibility, but he knows it is what must be done
      I may be seeing things in a completely wrong way from how this episode was originally written, but that is the way I have interpreted it since I first saw it and this movie, with better dialogues and better facial expressions, has only reinforced that for me

  • @dart7957

    good review!
    I watched this movie twice this week, and it was exactly what I thought it would be and what it needed to be
    a little adventure, celebrating the original work with the production value of Gundam The Origin
    I don't think it's completely inconsequential as many people are saying, you can see the impact this little adventure had on the young amuro, but regardless of that, it's a very entertaining movie, whenever I miss 0079, I will watch it again
    I would really like them to do the same with Zeta and ZZ, adapt some small arc or special episode into a movie format, I think that adaptations like this would satisfy the desire of people for complete remakes of those works, which I don't think they have the courage to do

      I would recommend showing it to them near the end of their viewing of the series, since there's characters that were introduced later on in the original series that are in this film, so it kind of spoils some things that happen in the series if that makes sense. Also thanks for watching!

    I think the origin continuity should be used as a way to launch a more refined and complete UC, Round out Zeta and redo double with an inclusion of amuro and chars character progressions to where they end up in CCA. Because Beltorchika disappears, when does Londo bell get formed and why? The EF seemed pretty apathetic at the time of ZZ, could also feed the psyco frame development since we dont see the technological development, only the Nu getting put together and getting some maintenance checks,
    and Char looks like he instantly gave up after Zeta? Then spends the next few years getting ready for his plans in CCA. I don't know if CCA needs to be redone. You could, but it would essentially have to be a recreation. Since it's used to end gundam's arc with char and amuro.
    But that would be a very ambitious and costly project. I don't think think it would be done lightly but honestly, at somepoint gundam 0079 needs to be retold for gundam to be gundam. Amuro char zeon and the RX-78-2 are an iconic part of the franchise, and they need to stay relevant into the future if they are going to be used for cameos for product comercials or have derivative work from them(all the char clones and literal clones)
