Will it Run? Episode 23: 1926 Ford Model T! First start in 50 years...

- This Ford Model T hasn't been started in over 50 years! Can we get it to go with less than 2 days' work? Let's give it a little tune-up and try to fire it up!
I hope you guys like this 1926-1927 Model T coupe that my friend Matt found for me... I mentioned to him that I wanted a "tall T" in all-original condition, and did he ever find the right one!
She's a barn-stored, one-family owned car, stored since the late 40s, according to the info I got from the gentleman that sold me the car. He bought some T's at a farm auction in Saskatchewan last year, and was just going to use the rougher ones to make a T racer, and agreed to sell me this sweetie!
I never thought I'd find such a nice untouched one at an affordable price, so I am just thrilled with it. Plans are to make it run well enough to putt around the yard, and eventually go through the mechanicals and restore the interior so it can be driven as much as possible!

In 68-69 my dad pulled one out of the weeds and brought it back to life. He was born in '12...this was the car of his youth. We towed it down the road to get it started. I still remember the look of joy on his face when it fired up.
God I miss him.
What I love about these guys is that despite how popular they get on RUclips, they still work from their home garage like us normal people. It’s nice to see their humble spaces, the dim lights, tripping over stuff and true craftsmanship. You have other channels that become a little popular and they go and rent a shop with big lights and make a production out of shit, they go from rebuilding barn finds to spaghetti cars. Thanks for staying humble ColdWar.
Restored Corvettes and Chevys for 37 years for people who insist on date-coded radiator hose clamps and nos tire air. So great to find a channel which doesn't take itself too seriously and honors the sanctity of what cars are, transportation, not museum pieces. Bravo.
My neighbor lady when I was growing up had a 27 Model T 4 door as her car...... until she died in 1986. She was born in 1900 and she and her husband bought the T new, then he died a few years later and she never remarried or bought a different car. She was a old farm wife and we lived in a small Iowa town so she never needed/wanted another car. Good memories..... I can still remember going for rides in the car.... I can remember the smell of the old oil, gas, rubber, wood, leather, etc when it sat in the garage. She passed when I was 16 but have good vibes of her and the old T. Thank you Agents for bringing up old memories and doing the right thing by the old iron. CARRY ON!
Great story but where's the ending what happened to the car after she passed
@@tolfan4438 Her household auction was held a couple of months after she passed. I remember a Edsel and early 60's T-Bird were consigned as well. The guys down at Sailer Ford (the successor to the dealer that sold the car new) had come and got the car out of the garage and got it tuned up so it ran decent. Some locals were bidding on it but the last I remember a man from Eldora, Iowa bought it. I can still see it driving down the road, and I don't know what happened to it after. 33 years later I now really need to find out. Next time I get back home I need to do some investigating.... As an aside My daughter is named after the cars original owner....Sophia(Sophie)! :)
@@seththomas9105 nice story
So that's why they called them buzz coils. Love these will it run episodes.
Francine is great.
Congrats Scott, well done 👍🏻
“Every electrical connection... all 7 of them” 😂😂😂😂😂 I’m dying
The wiring diagram is printed on the back of a business card.
the model T is the most important car ever built. it put the world on wheels.
I used a PTO day to watch this, more than anything I wanted on the tv... what a gem Scott CWM kicks ass
Got it in the first ten minutes! God Bless Canada! God Bless Canadian gearheads working on ancient iron!
The Ford Model T was a social revolution. Henry Ford insisted on such high quality materials he had to make them in his own steel mills. The coil ignition is brilliantly simple compared to the magnetos of the day. It was designed to be maintained by someone who had never touched a machine in his/her life.
Love that you left this car original. Too many times these cars are molested. This car is a true survivor.
Another great video, I bought a 1965 Ford $250 Coca Cola delivery van in 1976. Fixed it up with a camper interior, painted it orange with a little chromed chain steering wheel. My wife and 4 year son drove it to Florida from Michigan and back. We camped on the beach and surfed at Daytona for a month. We lived that month for $200 eating hot dogs and potato chips ( hamburgers on Friday nights)..... no problems with the Ford
cocaine delivery homeboy!!
Doing the first start by hand and getting it to run: serious respect!
That model T is in better condition than most cars of that age that has sat. I like it.
She lives!!!!! Now that's just a treat! Can't wait for the yard drive video! Very nicely done.
Even after several years of loyal viewership, there is still no other channel on RUclips whose videos I look forward to with more anticipation. Furthermore, there is no other channel whose videos I watch more than once in a 24-hour period. Kudos to Scott and co. at the Olympic Velodrome and Time-Wasting Complex for their successful revival of this derelict T-Machine.
I shall be expectant of Part II, along with the next installments of Cold War Motors' "Straight Eight Challenge," splice 4,322 on the Plymouth Fury project, and the inevitable return of the Citroën SM. I also can't wait for further news of the elusive Rover P5.
Hats off to Cold War Motors for bringing us "The Real McCoy" each and every week from their Alberta studios. Thank you!
That's how working on cars should be, reminds me of cold nights in various garages and barns working on old crap as my mother called it with mates, few beers, smoking without being shamed and that final glory. Love it.
Jim was on form there boys! Great video. Loved how excited Scott was, all fussy and double checking things! Fantastic
I love the sheer honesty of these old rigs. Man and machine at its best.
I think model t's are something you progress too with age. When i was younger it never ticked any boxes fer me but id kill for a solid great one like yers nowadays....the appreciation of our auto history is earned over time under the hoods and dashes an rockers of every car in between a century of automobiles. Congratts gents.
When I was a kid on a bike, a guy about a block away was working on a '26T and towing it around the block trying to start it. I remember laughing at him the first time around. The second time around he was driving the running chassis. I rode up close and asked what it was. he told me it was a 1926 Model T and if I wanted to ride. I threw my bike down for my brother to watch and jumped in. He told me about it as we went around the block. The one he had was an open top model. Something I will never forget.
Seeing that old T fire up, and the teaser clip of it driving through a field just made my weekend, I cant wait for part 2. Thanks for taking the time to make all these great videos!
That was fun, anything you share about the T is new to me, please more episodes
This is like the model T you always think of but never really see in this shape and original, super cool.
Ts are so simple you can just about fix 'em with a hammer. Glad Matt was there to show you the thumb saving grip on the crank.
Outstanding, as always .
You guys are great, that'26model T is actually older than my dad,, if he was living would only be 92.. thanks so much for sharing and"Howdy from Texas 😁"!!
Had I shown up at my buddy’s garage with two beers , I would have never heard the end of it.
Old Milwaukee too.
Yes. Noticed that. Jim. What were you thinking?
Its a runner, great fun,i noticed you seem to be talking quietly at one point to not disturb frankers which is the right thing to do,good video.
Job well done on the T, you guys transcend all automotive generations.
Always appreciate a amazing automobil adventure
Another episode of backyard awesomeness. Although I gotta say I'm dying of thirst for more Fury updates.
Glad Matt (“T” expert) showed up. I was afraid you would break an arm or lose a thumb the way you were trying to crank it. Good job sorting out the gremlins. Henry built at tough car that will go forever and you proved it!
Jim is by far my favorite character on this sitcom.
This one was great from start to finish. Then we get the bonus footage of the ‘64 shorty. I hope that will appear again soon. I love those things. Keep up the great work Scott. My Saturday is never complete without the latest episode of CWM. ❤️👍☮️
Another great video as always.
Frankers is never bad, perhaps un-good at times but never bad. I love seeing Frankers, she puts a smile on my face every time😃
Freakin awesome, best vid ever..had to pause it and pop out for a smoke when you started hand cranking.
Tension was unbearable.
Was jumping up and down like a sixty year old kid when it fired up!
Many, many thanks, what a great bunch of guys you are.
9:55 "I hate when stuff has to be wiggled"
I helped my friend get his 70s motorcycle going once that way. He couldn't get it started one day and I saw the nest of wires he was fooling with and I told him just wiggle the whole nest around a little then try it and it worked xD
Old Milwaukee beer. I tried it once... _Once_ .
It reminds of that old saying.....
" _Why is American beer like having sex in a canoe_ ?"
*It's f*cking close to water.*
Try a PBR Minnesota, or Hamms as we call it. or have a Utica Club or their upscale partner Matts, and the funny thing is that water tastes different wherever you go. So drink your Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani - $60,000 Per 750ml. I will have a PBR!
Try Black Label, if You Can Find it
that car is totally awesome
I agree 😜
Granted you had a very good example to start with. But i just can not help myself with it being a very proud thing to hear it fire and run.
Really really awesome to hear that engine kick and fire off, i was not even there and i was proud of it!!
you had me laughing in the first ten seconds with that pebble beach remark. :)
'specialized hose saw' too
That and the hose saw.
I had the 1960's Mission: Impossible theme song in my head.
Probably because he started with the word: 'Gentlemen!'
Hey guys. Yeah, i bet Wayne Corrini would love the T.
HEY!!!!! Another runner!!! Car has been sleeping for 50 years or so, and it's awake. Let's try that with today's cars.
nice to see you kept it like it was when you got it. always a nice job.thanks for sharing it with us.
You can tell how old the hoses are,by counting the rings.
Wow ! seeing that old girl run for the first time since god knows when was a treat ! a little spit shine and polish and she's ready for pebble beach !! lol love that same old shit ! looking forward to the straight eight showdown. cheers from Ontario !
Yes, more T please
Awesome! Keep the '20's through '40's cars alive. They're still the best.
That was fantastic! It's amazing that so many parts of a nearly 100 year old car are completely recognizable, but then there's little weird bits, like the petcocks on the oil pan. Nice Econo, too! My dad's shop vehicle was a '66...eventually, the rear completely rotted out, and the rear spring mounts tore up thru the floor.
Shocking developments on this episode of " my classic radiator hose " have they all gone mad!
WOW!! Fantastic stuff! You guys can do anything! Thanks. Love seeing Frankers sound asleep on the chair.
I put my arms in the air when it started, congratulations.
LOL and they want people to think push button starting and distributorless ignitions are new. Goes to show if you wait long enough it all comes back.
Part 2 coming soon...sweet! Looking good!
Hi again from New Zealand - guess it is getting a bit colder there.... as getting warmer here.... You guys remind me so much of how us Kiwi's are ... or us to be at least (I'm old) Wish I was their to help - I am electrical Tech - good job on wiring....
Super excited for this Model T video! Best to u and the angents!! ......Frankers too! Loving this video but still missing any '60 Plymouth updates!!
Thanks for checking it out...More on the 60 Fury soon... Just have to finish the 8s and a couple of customer jobs...Cheers!
@@coldwarmotors Best to u Scott, love your channel!
I binge watched the 60 Fury videos over like a 2 or 3 day period and it's easy to forget that those videos span such a long period of time. Doing a great job on it too.
Awesome! And now we know where to bring our model T's &A's for priapism too! What's better than that? Talk about full service! Lol! Yaaaaaaa!!! Success, and you got some new/old oil for the 2 strokes and such around the house. Quality lasting almost a hundred years, send 1 to china so they have an example of how to really make shit that lasts!!! Now for some headers and mag wheels on her, lol! Frankers!!!!! Thanks again intrepid agents! ▪☆☆☆▪
Congratulations starting the “T” and I love the ‘64 Ford Van!
That corner's not perfect...... lol these guys kill me.
I wonder if the Dodge van was representing the possum van from Red Green.
Red Green--such a fantastic show!
Ol Red would be proud! Trailer Park Boys too. Any one else watch Housos?
W
I used to drive a ford heavy duty half ton 64 van like this one for the 2 way radio shop I worked at. good reliable truck.
Yes... sweet success
Man that is always a great feeling to have an engine fire up like that
Amazing how far we've come with engines. This is the basis or "pioneer technology" that we are all running on. So simple. Whoever the original owner was would be proud to know you got it running again and that it has endured the years. Great job! I actually cheered when it started! Looking forward to more of this little gem!
Love the beard😘
This is the best show on youtube.
VICTORY ! Ok 45 minutes of beer drinking and very interesting banter then VICTORY !
Clearly, not a 'zero budget' - (but close) cold start...lol..but that's cool. Sometimes you and your agents have to treat yourselves. You've earned it plenty of times.
Great upload. Love the "T". Two thumbs up. Awesome! Jim's "appearance" - priceless entry lol.
I've had the shittiest of days today working on my Studebaker. Just couldn't do anything right. Thanks for lifting my spirits, Scott.
Not sure if you realized it but the little coil box melody was perfection
This is what its about . . . . saving history that was in dust, to run again! Cool stuff . . . . Rog
Thanks for checking out the latest episode of "Will it Run?" This time we'll see if we can get my old Model T running for the first time in 50+ years! Please feel free to hit the ol' "like" button and subscribe for more classic car shenanigans! I'll eventually be putting this sweet old T on the road, but for now I just wanted to see if she'd go.... If it does, we'll be taking the Ford coupe for a drive in the Part 2... Hope to see you then!

How many panties per block would this model t drop?
Hi Scott. With all the fun exciting projects going on, you really know how to entertain us. Your videos always satisfy us, and leave us eagerly anticipating more. I dont know whats coming next, but dont really care that much. I know when you post a video its going to be great, no matter what! Its amazing the old girl is so well preserved. Just needed some love. The right group of gents to get the job done. Outstanding! Hi Mini Frankers!
I thought you were going to leave us hanging but no the battery lived until you got the old girl going and then she died anyway awesome episode now you gotta make a will it move episode :)
Sez Henry, "Boyz, that's all you need...
She's got reverse and plenty speed.
Somebody wants some more than that,
The whole damn crowd can shit their hats!"
The Unknown Poet FKATUP, JPL
Editor's Note: Well, The Poet had a rough week. Me and Wifey took a week on the road, and she wouldn't let the little rat bastard go with us. I think you can see how the separation anxiety has affected his work. Come to think on it, maybe it's just as shitty as usual.
When that "T" started it brought me to tears. Good job.
This was indeed a treat! Best thing I'd seen today, & I'd have to agree - this car is probably the one that's had the most spent on it in sometime, but it was well worth it, because it fired just as the camera called it a day. You couldn't plan a better ending. And Jim's got a "shaggin' wagon": at least judging by the dash. :) Just the most fun in under an hour - a talented man, a group of good friends, an antique car, & his dog. And there's a Part 2: yessir, I'm putting in my RSVP for that & the "Straight 8 Showdown" - get ready to be clipped, Team Packard! But seriously, no matter which car makes it down the drive & back (cough, Buick, cough) everyone that worked on those cars are winners. And so are those that watched every episode. Thanks so much for making a dull Sat. afternoon a lot better. Cheers!
Nice old T-Ford, it's a runner !!
Incredible. That car, except for the paint and interior, appears to be no more than ten years old. Instead of nearly one hundred. It's a shame that it impossible to acquire the original black paint. Even the radiator appears to b pristine. I'm certainly glad that you took the time to purchase and correctly install the period correct cloth wiring instead of the bogus stuff that someone had installed at some point during it's life.
Great job getting Frankers' latest car running!
Welcome to the world of the Model T! I'm glad you got someone with some experience to help start it. no broken wrists!. one thing, the radiator is an aftermarket honeycomb core. I have one of those in my T and she loves to overheat. make sure it's cleaned out really good. (fill it overnight with vinegar to get the scale out) yours should be a bit better than my '17 since the radiator is taller.
The best source of help on these is the Model T ford club of facebook group. really. you get quality answers to any technical question in minutes.
Great job Scott and fellow agents, great video , love how you find, fix, and get running all these old beauties
From your friends from America
Love to see old engines start up great job 👍🏿
Fantastic save on the ‘T’ there guys! The anticipation was killing me! The ending was timed perfectly.
This reminds me of the first movement of "An Albertan in Walkerville". I saw it once. The percussion guy was running back and forth. It was funny watching him do it in tails and a celluloid collar; the crowd loved it. Especially when he was playing ACTUAL model T coils. Dah dah dah, buzzbuzzbuzz, buzzbuzzbuzz! 😉
So weird ! I commented last week of my anticipation of your videos on Saturday mornings compared to cartoons as a kid.I woke up at 4 this morning, made coffee my wife of 45 yrs calls Missippi mud and decided to watch some CWM I had not watched .Watched several of the '51 Bel Air and then decided to watch the arrival of the T model ,then low and behold later in the day when I checked, your new one wasn't of the straight 8 debacle as I expected, but of the model T.As an old man I TRUELY believe in two things ; mojo in old guitars and souls of old cars.Thank you Scott and all the agents. Please tell them the fans said so from Hemitimi .
You guy's have made the best y tube video ever loved every minute nothing like guys drink beer and .putting together a car reminds me of my old days
I drove a '62 Econoline for years. Rebuilt the original engine, then upgraded it twice. first to a 170 then a 200. Ended up rebuilding it from bumper to bumper. Wanted to put a 289 in it but the wife balked. Good job on the T. That had to feel good. Regards, Solomon
And people thought coil over plug was new! Fantastic! ... This car reminds me of the typewriters I restore in that every part is easy to see, how it works, how all the other parts relate, and what to do when it doesn't.
You should hold a sweepstakes where the winner gets to camp in the yard and make a guest appearance on the network, kinda like a trip to the Marlboro Ranch but we get to drive old cars around the yard instead of riding horses.
Great idea Jason, sign me up!!
I live in Australia and I'd fly over to claim that prize 🍺🤘be a great experience to meet the guys and enjoy a few beers with them , and the cars would just blow my mind 👍
laughed my ass off at the pebble beach remark then winced and said"jesus no" when you brought out the backsaw to cut off the hose.Carpenters worldwide suddenly popped up their heads and collectively said "what the hell was that sound".By the way I am a carpenter and a mechanic and I approve of this unorthodox maneuver.Get-r-dunn I say!
Lovely car thanks for sharing. We run a 1928 Model A and it’s amazing how far developed it is from the T which is only 2 years older. Thanks, Peter
tune in next week, to see scott go to the Chiropractor
Hi guys. Theres nothing better than some sweet T on saturday afternoon. The french paper weight! Yeah, that silver thing under plastic in the background. Lots of goings on as usual. T sounds great. Fun project. Oldest prize winner! Outstanding! With no speedometer, you will have to be careful tho!
OMG i've been waiting for this!! Right on Scott keeping the old girl just as intended. What a time capsul!! Thanks so much for another great video!! 👍👍👍
Fantastic. So cool to see things being repaired rather than just replaced. I know I couldn't even get close to your standard of work let alone have the patience to attempt it.
Great , that's one more thing to add to my list of things that i can't have, now I want a model T . Awesome as always !!
Oh man..this one put a big smile on my face!
Orange radiator hose make that fix look Farm Fresh....
I did thumb through [the manual] but it was more about how to change a crankshaft. Amazing.
"Frankers got drunk...…" another LMAO line... poor Frankers gets blamed for all of it.. LOL..
Its funny how protective one gets over the original parts.
I love this channel, you guys don't bastardize the cars.
Plus you make me feel a little less stupid for buying cars in the condition that I do.
I’ve been patiently waiting for you to make this video. Couldn’t have been happier to hear it finally fire up right at the end! Another great piece of automotive history brought back to life. Great work Scott and agents!
Congrats on the running model T. Loved the repair in the electric switch. Now waiting on the first drive around the yard. Following from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
Never knew the Model T had a musical ignition, but that makes it easy to tell that each of the 4 coils is working.
Love it!! On the edge of my seat for the Straight 8 episode. Fun stuff. Thanks.
