Will They Run? Straight-8-Showdown! Part 6

  • Hi! As promised, it's time for Straight-8 Showdown! In Part 6 we finish assembling the big inline 8s and see if they can actually make the cars move under their own power for the first drives in half a century! These are dinosaurs from the age of the extinction of the in-line 8 cylinder configuration; both the Packard and Buick types would be gone by 1955, so I thought we should see if they could be made to run again...
The "rules" are: 2 teams, every Agent is on one team or the other. No time limit, no real budget other than for gaskets or small items. The goal is to get your team's Straight-8 machine to the end of the yard and back under its own steam. In the event it is close, there will be a "Concours d'Elephants" to determine the victor...
Thanks to everyone who subscribed to our channel here, and thanks also for all of your "likes" and comments! We do appreciate that anyone would take the time to leave us a note. If you would like to help keep our channel going, you can get a sticker or a hat or a coffee mug at:

Ok! Time for Part 6 of the Buick / Packard Straight-8-Showdown! This is the last part of our series about resurrecting these giant old engines that have been abandoned for 50 years or so... We've had some fun getting them to run, but will they actually move the cars they are resting in? It's all Agents on deck as we finish the reassembly and try to get them to move. If they both get running at roughly the same time, we'll have to see which one can get to the end of the driveway and back first!
I was a little nervous about doing this series, as I really had no idea if either car can ever be made to run again. They have been sitting in fields for 50 years or so, and both engines are seized up, so there will definitely be some luck involved, and likely a little penetrating oil, haha! Agent 303 is the Captain of the Packard Team, and the twin Agents 7678 and 0826 of the Center For Cultural Enrichment are Co-Captaining the Buick Team. Agent 900 and I are on both teams, to keep it fair...
Please hit the ol' "like" button if you want more "Showdown" vids, ( It really helps the vids get seen) cheers!**
If you'd like to support our show, please visit our website at:

or join us on the Patreon page at:
www.patreon.com/coldwarmotors and we'll hang out and talk about cars a lot, haha!
All the support is so appreciated, and this channel could not exist without the people who keep it on the air... You guys are the best!
All the very best to everyone from me and Frankers and the Agents!

    Derelict from stylish past,
Then us boyz sez what a blast...
Since we ain't go so much to do,
Let's pound these turds and drink some brew.
And so it's done, the challenge met,
But we ain't hit our stride just yet.
For since we've gained revival's knack
We think we'll bring old Elvis back.

I saw it was posted and realized I had no cold beer in the fridge. So I got in the car and made the necessary trip (it is Saturday night, after all) and only then did I watch it. If you're going to do something, do it right. Or at least do it with a beer in your hand, as CWM has taught me.

Grab a cold beer and some munchies first roll a couple of joints (if it's legal where you are) And then watch the final prep and the awesome slow race to almost the end of the driveway and back. The Buick can still win if he drives to the road and back.

When you started that Buick up I was yelling run! its gonna blow! But it smoked up a helluva a lot more than the Packard engine did and the Trans on the Buick is in worse shape than the Packard obviously but hey you got them both running at least. An Amazing Victory for team Packard even though Dean had some trouble getting it in the right gear off the starting line which gave the Buick the early lead. Amazing that both cars even the JB weld Cylinder on the Buick held enough to get back to the starting line a totally enjoyable series.

@@UberLummox Completely agree. Yes sir, original 383 still runs great, but rings are getting a little tired at 54 years. Trying to decide between rebuilding it or building my 400 block into a stroker instead. Decisions decisions... Until then I keep a fresh supply of 20W50 in the trunk!
