- Even though it's one of Europe's cheapest, it's by now means a bad airline. On the contrary, it might be one of Eurpoe's best!

A 2-4-2 layout will forever be my favorite in any widebody
2-3-2 layout in 767s is the best but there are not a lot these days
Both the 767 and the 330, and the 340 am have the best economy class both by themselves. Sad the 787 can't be in the list thank to the airlinez
I flew twice on a United Airlines 777-200 many years ago (it was not even a -200ER yet, it was an original series -200), and at that time it was configured 2-5-2. Luckily I was in a 2-seat group on the first flight and in an aisle seat in a 5-seat group on the second flight (I can't sleep on planes anyway, so giving way to people that had to go to the toilet wasn't a big deal for me), but I can imagine that sitting in the middle of a 5-seat group was terrible. I also flew three times on old Air France 747s configured 3-5-3 (yes, 11 seats per row!), and fortunately I never got a middle seat, but it was probably even worse.
@@sergiolaurencio7534 Japan Air Lines is one of the few, if not the only, exceptions in having a 2-4-2 economy class layout in their Boeing 787s
Yeh same
Flown on TAP Air Portugal through to Canada many times, one of my favourite European Carriers, just so simple and comfortable.
TAP is the most underrated European star alliance carrier! I've happily flown a dozen of their flights and never had an issue.
I’m from Rome and I have family in Lisbon, every time is a shame with tap on European flights, they don’t even give you a glass of water.
So now I’m flying only Ryanair, why paying so much more for… Nothing!
@@salvatoresammarco1580 Until 5 years ago, TAP was not like this. They provided food and drink for economy class on all their flights, including Lisbon-Porto, a flight that takes less than 45 minutes. With the negative financial results, a restructuring was carried out and, unfortunately, they cut economy class food on short flights.
Until they cancel your flight ...
They may not be in Star Alliance that much longer, though I'm not sure who wins if we end up with TAP and ITA swapping alliances.
@@salvatoresammarco1580 Actually they do give you a glass of water. You just have to ask the crew for it ;)
Who here thinks this is there favourite aviation channel? Well done as always! 🎉
Always will be my favorite.
Fr I love this guy
I love aviation video!! ❤❤❤❤
I love this content
Watched him for like 4-5 years
TAP is so underrated. Safety and service are always on point.
Tbh not the greatest service since they are always having strikes and canceling people’s flights that’s why nowadays people here in Portugal try to avoid traveling TAP
not at all, they're probably one of the star alliance airlines i actively avoid due to poor service, fees/extras more in consistent with a ULCC and LIS is a pain to transit through and delays
TAP is the most under rated European carrier. It can be a little hit or miss depending on the crew, but it is usually charming and pleasant.
The problem with TAP are the strikes, every summer they do strikes, so it’s make difficult to travel with them
@@tiagoguerra4617 That means, the problem itself is TAP, not the strikes
@@tiagoguerra4617 that is a lie, since 2015 they only had 1 strike from the cabin crew, none from pilots and all after covid… 2015 was 8 years ago… you can be sued with your statement, be carefull
Ganhou agora o prémio de 3ª melhor companhia da Europa e a 13ª do mundo!! 🤔
Amazing video!!!! I love trip reports the most, although brutally honest is also quite enjoyable.
TAP looks like a nice airline, the A330-900 neo looks beautiful and those seats look nicely designed.
I flew them the other way (Newark to Porto) last summer and I have to say they were great, especially for the price!
The crew was extremely professional and hospital, good food and wine even in economy, everything was as good as it could be. Only issue was that the passenger next to me had some problems with his seatback entertainment system.
Have flown Air France, United, Swiss, and LEVEL in the past year as well and TAP is the best of that bunch followed by Air France.
THAT IS SO TRUE! We were 3 people and flew from Amsterdam to Miami via Lisbon and BACK for 1000 Dollars total!!! What an incredible bargain! Their hard product is fresh and new and the soft product is sufficient as well! Love flying with them!
I love TAP. I have flown with TAP countless times from San Francisco and Boston to Barcelona via Lisbon over the last 11 years. Great prices, never had a problem. I think the worst thing that happned to me was I once had a 4 hour layover in Lisbon but for the price it was no big deal. TAP is always my first choice when flying to and from the US and Europe. I always recommend TAP to friends. Just love 'em. I also like the 2-4-2 sea configuration!!!!
Hello I am about yo fly with them next September, with a stop in Lisbon, to Paris, they just gave me 2 hrs to change the airplane, do you think that time is enough?
@@alexisramon4872I too need some info on this. Heading to Italy and I have 1hr 30 mins to catch my flight.
@@alexisramon4872hi..we are flying from SF to Paris in December with a layover in Lisbon. How’s TAP experience? We have already booked our tickets but now I’m worried about the negative comments on luggage missing and flight cancellations😢
I entirely agree. I made a short flight from Manchester to Lisbon and was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. 😊
David, Felix are on a speedrun now!!
Keep up the consistency :D!
siuuuuuuuuuuuu!!
I had two great flights with TAP back in 2016 I hope they thrive!. PS In Lisboa they made change of gate announcements in English but not in portugese lol, half of the passengers were waiting at the gate while the other half were walking towards the new gate.
Great video! Their service looks amazing.
i love to fly with TAP,smoth landing by the way!
The cabin looks pretty modern, clean and comforting. Sorry to say, it looks better than on most Middle Eastern carriers. TAP can work on food presentation
I love the 'planespotting' parts in Lisbon and New York. A nice feature! Love from England
Ooooooohhhhh.......... an A300-900 Neo, you say? That's not an aircraft you see that often at the moment, enjoy your flight mate!!
I love the modern "bandit" cockpit windows on the newer Airbus aircraft, it's proper 😎!!!
EDIT: Those RR Trent 7000 engines are absolutely magnificent, that 9ft 4 inch fan diameter is chuffing enormous......... I love it!!!! I also can't believe how quiet they were, even at take off throttle which is pretty much full power!!
Every time I go from Europe to South america the fastest, cheapest way is with TAP , now with the new a339's it's a blast
Thanks for uploading this at this time! Im flying with them on their a330 neo in August to Chicago so I was hoping you would do a video with them so Im so grateful!
Long haul on TAP: great!
Short haul on TAP: absolutely underwhelming
that is the best looking economy class meal I have ever seen
both intros are so good can’t watch it enough
Another great flightreport👍 Thanks for sharing again. I just become member, I am gonna to discover your channel. Regards from Rotterdam, Netherlands
I agree. A very underrated airline. They are still carrying over years of bad rep.
I flew them 6 times in 2022 between London and Portugal (LIS, FNC, OPO) and I cannot name one bad flight with them. Tried their basic, flex economy as well as their business class and all offered great service within their remit. Would like to try them on longhaul flights. Last time I did so was on their old & outdated (even for that time) A310 in 2006.
As always, great review, guys!
I love watching full take off video😍
Flew TAP a few years ago in one of their A340 from GRU to LIS, I still remember the huge reclination of the economy seats, something out of this world!
Great video! Congratulations 👏👏
The answer might be far simpler: the A330's default 2-4-2 seat layout. It gives you roughly 2.5 to 3 cm extra width for your shoulder to relax without bumping someone next to you. I think travelers always take seat width for granted until they suffer the squeeze of Boeing 737 seats being fitted into long haulers. I flew Thai dated A330-300, didn't particularly felt amazing, but that's decent enough I guess. I flew Garuda's A330-900, felt not too different, but refreshing nonetheless.
Boeing widebody operators like ANA fill its 787 with 3-3-3 economy seat layout, giving you 737 seat width for the entire long hours. While ANA compensate you with generous 34" pitch, the same can't be said with China Airlines' 777-300ER with its dreadful 3-4-3 layout. Sitting in the middle, the armrest claim won't give you any extra comfort, since you'll bump shoulders. Someone next to you tries to reach for their pocket, adjusting their seat belts, touching the IFE screen or moving the controllers, you'll feel their shoulders moving about. Sitting next to the aisle will give you repeated galley cart bumps. Why do Boeing operators need these extra 20-30 seats? Are Boeing planes has some efficiency deficit that it desperately tries to address?
Kudos to TAP for sticking to standard 2-4-2 layout.
No, is because they add extra money to the airlines. By adding more seat, mean you can push the machine as it's maximum to get the more of it. The 777 and 787 are very wide of fuselage.
I Havent Experience Tap Air Portugal A330-900 neo,I Have Try Out Tap A 321 LR.Great Trip Report
Tap is a great airline. It's a joy to fly with tap. Flew 4x last year with Tap to Ghana. My only problem or let's say discomfort is the food, other then that, it's truly a great airline❤
International flights are great. National flights a nightmare. Prefer to use train than connection flights. Never know when they are delayed (for long time) or cancelled.
They are a really good airline. I've flown with them a few times but I wouldn't say they were cheap. Reasonable if you can find a good deal.
This video illustrates the difference between longhaul in a narrowbody vs. widebody. On a widebody, the aircraft can carry more food options so they're less likely to run out of your meal choice. The aircraft also feels more comfortable in the air, especially with regards to turbulence.
I flew this same route in January on an A321neo, and I definitely wouldn't describe the service as phenomenal. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. It was average. By the time the service reaches the rear of the aircraft, you're stuck with whatever they have left, and if you're a vegetarian, forget about it.
TAP is not a low cost carrier. It's more of a hybrid, legacy in most ways with some low cost habits.
I like the way u zoom in on the meal tray and take the time to itemize. Well enjoyed and keep it up👍🏾
how? with the help of our taxes.
They also flying with A321 neo to new york. Very impressive
Simply lovely ;)
I like TAP, before COVID, I took from Madrid to Lisboa, Sevilla to Lisboa, all included free refreshment snacks and drinks. But. it is sad that the airline has turned this to Buy on board after the pandemic.. Even with the flight more than 3 hours, there is no free drinks. Hope that they could consider again for the free service..
Brilliant Airline and even better Video
Question: I am flying from New York to Italy. I see we have a change of plane in Lisbon for 1hr 20mins. Do I have to go through border patrol (customs). If I do, will it be enough time to catch my flight that leaves for Italy?
Wow, it's so beautiful that I thought it was an a350!
Funny how a lot of people say that TaP is cheap when for a lot of us, Portuguese, it is a rather expensive airline.
Maybe flying from another European capital, with a layover in Lisbon, turns it cheap... Nós financiamos a tap e ainda pagamos caro para viajar 😆
@@extsaojose indeed, they do have some promotions from time to time, it must be said, but generally speaking, I wouldn’t consider it to be an affordable company.
@@extsaojose Os Portugueses é que ganham mal
Its cheap from Lisbon and expensive from Porto
@@skurinski it’s not very cheap from Lisbon, try to find an affordable flight from Lisbon to Luanda, for example, and the prices will make your jaw drop…if you’re poor, of course 🥲
18:51 - pretty rare airplane at JFK!
Nice video, tks. Two things I would have done differently - I would have recorded the plane leaving Lisbon, including a view of the south of the Tagus river, and I would have called the attention for the image of Nikola Tesla in the tail of the Air Serbia airplane shown in the end of this video.
I was plan to go from LIS to CPH, but all plane into whole Europe were cancelled that saturday - but TAP were flying overseas, I had to wait 4 days to return to CPH. And I had to wait 14 month for compensation.
Whenever I visit family in Lisbon, I always fly TAP’s A330 Neo from SFO-LIS. Its such a good product!
This is a very Nice Tripreport Like all of You’re tripreports
2:41 wow such rare occasion to spot an antonov-124!
Current prices for South America and some European destinations are very high, not to mention the cancellations and huge delays which also happen more frequently.
Portugal might just be one of the most iconic European nation when it comes to online internet trends
The Antonov is alive!! Thank god! 😢 Legends never die. ❤
Tap is super unrated airline! Landing the aircraft are like Angels
YES THANK YOU DAVID 😄😄

I'm not one of those guys who request flight reviews as if you were solely at our service and had unlimited funds and availability to fly wherever you want at any time, but I have a good reason to suggest you to try one of TAP's routes to Brazil (where due to the same language and many cultural and economic ties, TAP has an impressive market share on European routes and flies to 10 Brazilian destinations, which is unmatched by any other foreign airline).
The reason is that most reviews of TAP I see on Brazilian routes are negative (sometimes catastrophic, even in business class), nowhere near the quality you experienced on this flight, and it seems that they concentrate their best efforts on North American routes. The comparison would be interesting to see. (Their only other South American destination is, surprisingly, Caracas, which is basically off-limits to most travelers these days, for sadly obvious reasons.)
Interesting insight. And makes sense too. On the other hand l would have thought the Brazilian routes would command better service, but then, as you mention, it is east to take that route monopoly for granted. Caracas well, whoever is familiar with the situation in Venezuela, will know it is simply a utilitarian route nowadays.
@@thegospelaccordingtoant-an1379, it is not totally a monopoly because two Brazilian airlines fly to Portugal: LATAM Brazil flies São Paulo-Lisbon on the 787-9, and Azul flies from Campinas (near São Paulo) to Lisbon on A330s of various series. But TAP flies from Lisbon to 11 Brazilian airports (I had said 10 above, but I forgot one): São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Salvador, Recife, and Fortaleza on A330s (various series), and to Belém, Natal, and Maceió on the A321LR.
All these flights are nonstop (except Maceió, via Natal) and are flown at least 4 times a week (São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are daily). Additionally, TAP flies from Porto nonstop to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro on A330s. So, the competition with Brazilian airlines is disproportionate. TAP also has an impressive European network, so it offers easy connections to destinations throughout Europe, with the added convenience of people speaking Portuguese on board both flights and at the connecting airport.
This can be significant: for example, recently I saw a video by a Brazilian lady who lives in Norway, was having a baby, and paid the ticket for her sister to fly from Brazil and help her during the birth and after-birth phase. Her sister doesn't speak a word of any foreign language, only Portuguese, and had never even traveled by plane, let alone internationally, so TAP was really the only option for her. Add competitive fares and you have a recipe for success. But the service is reported to be inconsistent at best, terrible at worst.
As for Caracas, in addition to the currently low passenger loads and safety issues for resting crews, foreign airlines have pulled out of there en masse simply because they were unable to be paid in hard currency for the tickets they sold within Venezuela. And while there is a sizable community of Venezuelans with Portuguese ancestry, I doubt that it's enough to fill planes, especially at the moment, when very few of them can afford to travel.
Most of the few foreign airlines that still serve Venezuela do so for political reasons (for example, Turkish Airlines flies from Istanbul because Venezuela is an ally of the Erdogan regime, but it's a money-bleeding route, while Venezuela's own Conviasa flies to Moscow, Damascus, and Tehran, but only to Madrid in Western Europe, and even then on planes wet-leased from Spanish charter airline Plus Ultra). I don't think Portugal has any political interest in Venezuela at the moment, so I don't understand what TAP is still doing there.
That is not a problem of the airline itself but also of the brazilian mindset, always complaining about everything. The aircrafts are the same, the crew is the same, only the prices are not the same of the US routes. That is because of the monopoly TAP does have flying to/from Brazil, as they do not need to get new passengers from other airlines, the price tag to/from Brazil is more expensive. But is also, most of the times, the only good airline brazilians have to be in any point of europe, or middle east, with only 2 flights. Otherwise they would have to travel from their city to a major one in Brazil (where other european airline flies to/from), there goes 1 flight, then the transatlantic one and finally the european. SO, with that being said, the price tag is a bit more high but it offers the same product, join that with the middle class brazilian mindset and that is why you have so many negative reviews.
@@goytabr There are still half a million of Portuguese , or with a Portuguese passport living in Venezuela and in the last ten years a lot off Venezuelans migrated to Portugal so it's reasonable to maintain the connection.
So good
Superb 😮😮❤❤❤❤
At least someone clapped for that smooooooth landing. I think passengers should cultivate that habit, especially on long haul flights, cause a lot goes on in the cockpit for passenger safety which they dont see. Thiugh during de boarding passengers say thanks but as a pilot, hearing an applause also lifts their spirits very much ;).
Thanks for the video. Loved the views❤

Yes. I have a trip booked on Play! :)
@@simply_aviation whats your flight it is?
Wait... What?!?!
Cheap?
Every single time I try to book an international flight with TAP it costs me one arn and a legg... Each way.
I needed tickets to Hamburg in April, TAP asked me for 511€ (economy) each way. I got it for 189 for Lufthansa (classic economy, Round trip).
I must be missing something...
I am so glad this video showed on my home screen today. I always assumed TAP should be avoided and will now consider them in the future. You got really lucky with your Basic Economy seat assignment - a whole row to yourself. Also, I assume meals are not included with BE fare. You didn't mention the cost, or did I miss it?
Pls do one on Condor A330neo, I wanna see how good it is
Good job there. Please maintain plane spotting part, kudos.
Uma das companhias mais seguras do mundo! Seus pilotos tinham performance excepcional!
While their inflight product is great for the price. TAP was fined a million dollars from the DOT in the US as they intentionally delayed the processing of refunds to customers. Long story short. If your flight with them does not get canceled or rescheduled. You are in luck. but if it does and they don't have any suitable flights due to the limited flights offered and you want to get a refund. Good luck! It took me close to a year to get my money back.
The person clapping at 16:57- 17:05 thought everyone was going to clap with him 😂😂😂😂😂 I can imagine the person sitting next to him looking stupid. 🤣🤣🤣
Clapping at the end of a flight is common in Madeira. I think it's nice gesture. We in the U.S. are too cool for such a kind gesture.
they are always the cheapest on google flights the problem is coming from the US there is usually a 8+ hour layover so I never pick them, but nice to know it would be a good airline to fly.
Time to fix several typos in the description. Also - they are cheap, because they are keeping wages and costs down in a highly competitive market.
More like...they are "cheap" because the Portuguese gov wastes 1 to 1.5 Billion a year to keep it operating... 5 Billion so far and counting in the last few years!😅
@@Karen-bq1vn The cost, what you don't need to pay, or be reimbursed other ways, is in fact a down kept cost ;)

well, catering in tourist class of all european airlines is soso....but I enjoyed bc in TAP towards/from latin america
Props to the pilot! That landing was smooth as hell. Just when you think it's gonna touch the ground, the pilot holds a bit the descent and makes it an epic landing.
and the Price...?
You should try he CPI version, very good indeed, particularly the 4.6 version.
I'm just sad that 3.2 Billions from our taxes were burried in that company. Lisbon lives from tourism and that's wrong and unhealthy.
übrigens am Anfang. Links geht es runter zur Metro und damit schnell ins Stadtzentrum etc
50€ for the full flight wifi? jeez
I 100% agree!
Now try that same long haul flight on their new A321neoLR, you’ll be horribly disappointed. 7 hours on a narrow body…

That was probably the healthiest meal I have seen in economy class!
The Antonov An-124 is the highlight of the video! So big!😮
TAP is very underrated. I wish I flew on TAP to see what it’s like instead of Delta. Don’t get me wrong because Delta was also very good for this route but I think I like TAP more now
I took tap air from America to Italy and the food was 5 stars. The comfort seats I recommend another 5 stars EVERYTHING WAS 5 STARS
I've been flying TAP for years. Its a decent airline.
We had some issues with TAP some years ago. We went to court in EU and got a lot of money in the settlement. We would never fly TAP again.

The TAP longhaul product is among the best you can find in Europe. Their shorthaul 320 family seat layouts are painfully narrow though
Great flight!
Actually the meal look very nice!
Answering the question in thumbnail: they received € 3.2 B of portuguese tax payers money...
I'm flying from. San Francisco to Lisbon for World Youth Day on TAP.
It'll be interesting to see who wins the forthcoming bidding war for TAP. Air France KLM, Lufthansa and IAG are all interested.
out of curiosity, did any airport security come tell you off in LIS for taking pictures/videos of the aircrafts?
In Portugal, people have the right to privacy even in public, so if you were "told off" its normal, as it is the law.
what you need to say is: "this is for personal use only, and i can show you I am only taking wide shots and not focus on any one person or any thing".
and let's say you put the video on YT, if someone that is in your video asks, you have to take it down. or blur the person.
