Changi is one of the most confusing of the airports in terms of security check. There are 3 types for its 4 terminals: 1. At-gate Security: All Terminal 1, 2 gates as well as some Terminal 3 gates. Personally my most favorite option as I can take my own sweet time until close to final call (the plane has to wait for you). Also, the queues are much less towards the tail end of the boarding call. The only other airport that I know which has this style is Kuala Lumpur main terminal (not the AirAsia one). 2. Single security for selected gates: Some gates at Terminal 3 (late-A gates and some A and B gates towards the middle of the terminal) use such concept to save space for queueing or to lump flights with low loads at these gates. 3. Single security for all gates: Most travelers are familiar with this concept as this is the norm all over, but it is my least favorite as I have to rush to the gate after a long security line. Changi, however has this only at Terminal 4, which is why airside transfers from T4 to the other terminals require security clearance before taking the airside bus.
Security clearance at the gate is much easier, as you are not waiting along with everyone else who are flying elsewhere to clear security and rush to your gates. Also, there is always somewho is running late, and is trying to beg other people let themto jump the queue...

Since then, I never get tired of telling my family and friends about my flights on SQ, that's just how amazing they were. Now, I'm facing a long 8 month wait to fly with them again in February. If nothing changes until then, I'll be back aboard their 787 and A350 again. So damn excited to run it back with SQ
@MichaelGGarry Philippine Airlines has degraded to the point of competing with AirAsia & Cebu Pacific so that's not surprising at all 😂 Local stock exchange rumor is that it's run as a family business so they hire an expert to save the company & then replace them with the son once recovered, & then the idiot runs the company to the ground again & rinse & repeat.
I think I've traveled with Singapore Airlines only twice in my life up to this point. One is a mid haul from Singapore to Hong Kong and one a long haul flight from Singapore to Amsterdam. Both were some 25 years ago. I remembered that they were excellent trips. Too bad Singapore Airlines are way too expensive for my budget these days. But I hope I'd be able to experience their excellent service again someday. Excellent video!
I'm flying to New Zealand (via Singapore for a few days) on Singapore Airlines in 2 weeks, and this has just made me even more excited to go! I just hope i can secure a window seat at check-in or even an upgrade of some sort! 😅
It's my dream to fly with Singapore airlines on long-haul. I flew with them on route BCN-MXP last year and it was fantastic! ❤ This route continues to SIN. I tried only short-haul part. And in business class. ✈️ Crew were extraordinary, I was so happy and views from large windows in A350 were nice, too. 😊 What a wonderful flight!
We've been waiting for too long for this railway to open. Last time I took it and it is very convenient and cheap compare with any other options we got.
5:42 just an observation. Most Asian passengers do not like cold air blasting on their face hence part of the reason why the individual air vents are not prioritised in SQ. I’m sure cost savings is the other factor.
19:15 By the way SATS has since diversified beyond airport ground handling services & also offers food catering outside airports e.g. MICE, military bases
I like the layout of this vid. It’s a mix of a tripreport and brutally honest etc. I like that it’s narrated but doesn’t make it too much about a presenter. Good job

I found the difference on 9V-SMS vs 9V-SHA clear. SHA is for 3-8 hours, feels more squeezed. SMS is for 8-13 hours Did CPH-SIN-BNE last year and it was worth the doh...
I flew from Singapore to Cambodia, which is about 1 hour 45 minutes. I was impressed that they even served breakfast on such a relatively quick flight. I liked that they provided hot towels lol
I flew the 78X to NRT and back last month, overall the product is very good but having 301 economy seats do slow down the meal service a bit and I do see the crew getting a bit overwhelmed when there’s an influx of passenger requests. Also another thing I observed is that SQ serve only one main meal while ANA on the same route serves one main meal and one pre-landing snack and drink. I do wish they provide premium economy on these planes since traveling couples will have a hard time trying to find the right seat in this cabin, they could either hope for an empty middle seat or try to book the rearmost seat but those seats are very often blocked.
If you guys notice, the mid-haul A350s have different maps compared to their remaining widebodies fleet B777; B787; A380 and even... their long-haul A350s. However, honest to say, I can fly their B787-10/A350-900MH on even longer routes which can be around 12-13 hours. SQ really deserves the best airlines titles
A very interesting video😊 I have had the pleasure of flying Singapore airlines long haul, most recently in August 2018, from Christchurch New Zealand, to London Heathrow, with a stopover and plane change at the fantastic Changi airport in Singapore😊 I flew from NZ on a 777 for a 10 hour flight to Singapore, then after a few hours layover at the lovely Changi airport, boarded an Airbus A380, for a 13 hour journey through the night to London. I was extremely impressed with Singapore airlines in flight service, and hope to be able to fly with them in the future if I can😊
I recently travelled on SQ PE and Economy, the hard product was good, but the rest was average. I have been watching reviews of other airlines like Starlux, ANA and JAL, and Singapore Airlines really have to up their catering game🙃
I have to say that having not travelled with SQ since 2018, I was impressed with the products they offered. I was particularly impressed by the SATS sustainable catering offerings. Those small lunchboxes pack a tasty punch and I quite like the wooden/bamboo cutlery. I felt I was fed more between CGK and SIN with SQ than I was with BA between LAX and LHR. Also, the A350-900 felt just as familiar and comfortable as the 777-300ER they use on the CGK sector.
I think their reason to put security checks right outside the gate is to minimise noise when they announce boarding groups so that it is quieter in the terminal.
it's also design. You won't see any snaking queues and security checks at Changi's airport entrances. It would make Changi look messy, noisy and disorganised.
@@theachilles96 There is a functional security reason for this as well. As a regional hub it is a perfect target for smugglers to transit through to access more countries. Putting the security check at the gate means that transit passengers will need to be checked again, which can catch smugglers hiding things on their person that may not be caught in their flight to Singapore.
I have flown Singapore Airlines on the PER-SIN on both the 787 and the A350. Unfortunately, I must say I prefer to fly the Qantas A330 on the route, simply due to the fact that I find the seats on the SQ 787 and A350 uncomfortably narrow. All other aspects of the flight are always amazing, but I really do value comfort over the five star service SQ provide.
The Qantas a330 actually has the narrowest seats of those three planes having 17.2 inches of width with Singapore airlines having 17.3 inches for the 787 and 18 for the a350. The 2-4-2 of the a330 as opposed to the usual 3-3-3 or 3-4-3 for wide bodies can make it feel less cramped than it actually is though.
That’s because when flying with QF, you are flying their A330s, which are configured in a 2-4-2 layout, so you will feel less cramped than B787s and A350s. Just wait till QF uses 787 for flights to SIN and I believe you’ll change your mind
I really enjoyed this review, further, I really appreciate the avgeek level the review gets into, going into airline and aircraft specific details you normally don't see. Thanks for a great review!
I fly SQ SIN-MNL December 2024. Seated in row 59 👌. The 787-10 has the shortest range of the 787 series, which is why it's limited to medium haul routes. But I think the A359 takes care of those long haul routes
Flown on the business class on the newest A350 on Starlux and 787 on EVA few weeks ago, I will say 787 still better, the windows really make a huge difference; the inside of the 787 feels taller, could be the overhead bin design? on the A350 I kept bump my head into the bin 😅
Hello! Your first leg of your flight, is the same aircraft registration from MNL to SIN! I have rode on that before, it looks cool to see PER to SIN, no layovers! Have a great time! (to all ppl who say dis not true, i actually rode on it in june)
Good flights, but I agree with David that the breakfast provided on the first flight (Perth-Singapore) could have been a bit more substantial. I have heard from a good number of people that Singapore Airlines have cut back their catering to some extent. The breakfast flight I had from Nadi to Sydney (4 hour sector) earlier in the year on Fiji Airways was much more substantial than the offering on this SQ flight.
I heard all that, then travelled with SIA just last month and had some of the nicest meals I have had on any aircraft. Although I do order the special diet meals - which are often better than the normal meals!
The catering & extras on SQ economy not what they were. Covid has been used as an excuse to cut standards. No fresh fruit. No salt or pepper. No trademark hot towels, meals that are carb heavy. I hope they lift their game as the crews are still excellent but the product not what it was a few short years ago.
So sad to see that Singapore Airlines A380 sitting there not being wanted anymore, maybe they could on-sell it to Emirates who have been buying A380's galore!., Simply Aviation stands-out better than some other YT flight report reviewers because they fly in economy class & not always in other upgraded classes. Awesome video here as alway's🛫👍
You should get a decibel-o-meter and take cabin volume readings in flight. This will vary greatly depending on seat location and aircraft type, but could be really useful information that almost nobody provides. The A380 is the quietest and most comfortable aircraft I've ever flown, the A340 comes close. Boeings tend to be louder.
Not the 737 max or 787 though, I have actually found them to be slightly quieter than their airbus counterparts, the a320neo and a350. Nothing beats upper deck of a380 though in terms of noise level and overall comfort but did not care for a340 the several times I flew on it.
@@cjohnson8126 I found the A350 way quieter than the 787, but was also sitting a bit farther forward. I haven't flown on a 737 max or a320 neo so I can't compare. As I said, measurements would be a nice addition to these reviews
A perspective to consider: It is with great regret that the new recent in-flight SQ meal presentation in Economy class, which started during pandemic era, does not look appetising nor elegant anymore. While I could understand the need to reduce surface contact, cost-cutting measures, etc. during pandemic years, it is hoped that SQ could return the sophisticated meal presentation towards pre-pandemic SQ standard. Previously, SQ meal presentation looks elegant, high-class, proper, well-thoughtful in every aspect so as to have a luxurious feel even on a short one-hour Jakarta-Singapore flight which compliments other aspect of world-class SQ label. For instance, in every Economy class pre-pandemic SQ meals consists of: proper metal cutleries set only, a refined white-colour plate for the main dish, a transparent classy glass cup, small cylindrical pre-packed mineral water or orange juice, additional coffee/tea offering by stewardess in a proper transparent cup as well as rounded bread offering, basic seasoning: salt pepper butter, two finest white-colour square plates for the side dishes with transparent lid showcasing their contents: chocolate cake / desserts / green salad/ two or three types of colourful fruits. All of these are placed against darker-colour tray, enhancing its colour contrast. Exquisite indeed! However, nowadays as also shown in the flight review above, for Economy class in-flight meal, cheap-looking brown takeaway cardboard box is used instead. No more metal cutleries in some flights route. To a certain extent, that is not how it supposed to look for five-star airlines. In addition, many components are removed and black-coloured thin cheap-looking plastic plate is used for the main dish instead. A comparison of current SQ in-flight meal presentation with pre-pandemic Economy class of other five-star airlines competitors such as Emirates reveals how disappointing and dissatisfying it is. It is hoped that SQ could return the sophisticated Economy class meal presentation again once pandemic impacts becoming more manageable in a foreseable future.
Personal air vents are a feature of the flight manufacturer and not the airline. I too do a fair amount of travel and what I have noticed is that the personal air vents are outdated and only available in the older short haul smaller flights like A321 or lower. Wide body jets don't anymore feature those personal air vents.
I had the chance to fly the SQ 787 from Perth to Singapore and the entertainment system was good - live TV. But they didn’t have the games on the in flight entertainment. People had to download the SQ app on their phones and other devices. Next I flew the SQ A350 from SIN-CAN - the in flight map was much better than 787 (at least they show innovative features including tail registration, wind speed and information on nearby airport.

Local stock exchange rumor is that it's run as a family business so they hire an expert to save the company & then replace them with the son once recovered, & then the idiot runs the company to the ground again & rinse & repeat.
Nice to see little old Perth get a look in. The new Airport rail line is well worth a go.
As for SQ, they really are brilliant.
Yay, Simply Aviation (Brutally honest) has now flown out of Perth! My home city. Great review as always! SIA always delivers
@Zoranvuko I also live in Perth!😊
@@adifferentview280 Me too
8:38 I love observing the shadow. Positive rate, gears up!
Singapore airline is phenomenal. Did LAX to DPS vis SIN and was the best experience through and through.
Good job
Hey David i think this video is your video in a very long time... Awesome video man as usual i am happy to see your video ❤❤that too reviewing my most favourite airline
I think you will be happy seeing Austrian B777 in Bangkok airport
Those were two very smooth landings!
Thank you for your videos. I’m flying from Aruba to Barcelona, Spain via Bogota, Colombia with Avianca in a month time. I’m going to try and make something like this! 😅
Avianca una aerolínea que brinda un servicio Low Cost.
I flew Singapore Airlines to Bali from the UK with a layover at changi… 14hrs direct from England to Singapore was so good the time flew by.
I found the difference on 9V-SMS vs 9V-SHA clear.
SHA is for 3-8 hours, feels more squeezed.
SMS is for 8-13 hours
Did CPH-SIN-BNE last year and it was worth the doh...
SQ’s 787-10 economy class are quite great. I also did the TRIP REPORT on my channel.
I flew from Singapore to Cambodia, which is about 1 hour 45 minutes. I was impressed that they even served breakfast on such a relatively quick flight. I liked that they provided hot towels lol
Excellent takeoff by the captain not to high not too low either!
You’re so thorough with your videos. Good job.
I Havent Experience B787-10 Yet,Singapore Airlines Have On Of The Best Economy Product Out Ther My Opinion .Great Trip Report
Yes, I notice it, although I don’t know why they make that change, and I still prefer the Voyager 3D map rather than the Geofusion’s one
nice review, more reviews to come. Big fan of this channel
Nice review like usual🎉 well done
Singapore Airlines is the best airline in the world and for good reason.
I was extremely impressed with Singapore airlines in flight service, and hope to be able to fly with them in the future if I can😊
the problem of SIA is the price lately. when I travel for work i do use it, but for personal use it's either mile redemption or other options.
The price is just similar with the services you get, I see many others offering worse service still have higher airfares than SQ
@@anhminho6115 genuinely never seen a higher airfare than SQ
I recently travelled on SQ PE and Economy, the hard product was good, but the rest was average. I have been watching reviews of other airlines like Starlux, ANA and JAL, and Singapore Airlines really have to up their catering game🙃
I can agree sometimes the food can lack in quality but sometimes it’s actually decent
Great review as always David! Glad you flew on my national carrier and visited my country.
The mid haul A350 is also used to Dubai and the 787-10 to Delhi and Mumbai
Oh god your back let’s gooooo
I have been waiting for the SQ 787 tripreport, I remember I commented on one of your video to make this video, thank you so much
Simply Aviation is the Singapore Airlines of the youtube travel review channels.
7:36 Qantas B717🥲
Just miss their towel service before take off, they reduce meal portion as well , but yes it’s still best choice for Asian return back home
Quite 🥬 0:01
Miss flying with SIA. Frequent flyer not only SIA but others too. Haven't been travel since covid happened.
WOW David, Really impressed by your intro!!! Please tell us how you do it and what softwares do you use.
Fantastic review guys!😸
What an awesome video man!
Do really all 787s have dimmable windows? I flew them in 2018 (United) and 2019 (LATAM) and I don’t remember the ones I flew on had them.
I'll be flying JFK-SIN and SIN-ICN one on the ULR, one on the 78X. Looking forward to both trips!
Great to see my home city of Perth again on a trip report! Haven't seen many
That was great, i loved it ❤
Nicely done mate 👌
❤Singapore Airlines❤
From July 2023, SIA offers full journey complementary Wi-Fi for all Kris-flyer(free to register), even in economy class
That indoor garden in changi airport, really is a foot massage sort of garden. Those stones on the "path" are meant to be walked on bare footed.
We flew SQ exclusively for the last twenty years. But $3,800 MEL -MUC this August changed that. Hoping they can win us back next year.
I will travel from Tokyo to Paris with SGA i can’t fait !!
Thanks for this review and all your reviews on economy class
Amazing video! :) Thanks!
Hey if the mongolian b787-9 goes on comersial flight try it out it arrived on august 11th
07.09 Batik will be coming soon to Auckland from Perth. Will be another long haul trip for a 737Max
A perspective to consider:
It is with great regret that the new recent in-flight SQ meal presentation in Economy class, which started during pandemic era, does not look appetising nor elegant anymore.
Since you showed Batik Air Malaysia in the earlier part of the video, just wanted to share the news that Batik Air Malaysia will start a KUL-DBX using their B737-8 soon. Thats nearly 8 hours on a narrow body.
Hey Simply Aviation, I have a question I've been wanting to ask to certified flight reviewers. How do you guys get to record the takeoff and landing and the whole flight itself because when I flew with Air Asia Philippines I got warned at climb to not record. I was using my Cellphone and a Car Holder with Suction. I think it might've been too large what do you recommend for me to use to record my flights? also when I flew with Cebu Pacific they didn't warn me and I was using the same exact device and holder on the window.
That's strange. I've never been told not to record or take photos/videos. Besides, the crew are seated during takeoff and landing.
@@dennisrettke They did that to me when they were serving foods that costs extra at climb
are you allowed to place your backpack under seat? 😊
Pls do long haul economy config on the A350 its quite nice and is very different from med haul A350s maybe Sin -> Man. Sin-> man has a high chance youll fly 9V-SMF a long haul A350 also the 10,000 airbus aircraft
I’m pretty sure they already have a trip report on the long haul a350

I've been on a Singapore Airlines 787-10 from Singapore to my home city ( Melbourne ) in this year I'm going a night flight and heading back on Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong I've been on Cathay Pacific once when I was little and Also I went on a A380-800 of Singapore Airlines from Melbourne to Singapore and Silk Air Boeing 737-800 flight to Cebu.
Airlines I've been on:
Cathay Pacific
Singapore Airlines
SilkAir
Philippine Airlines
What was the seat width like on the 787-10. Old reliable seatguru had the width listed as 18.9 inches which I'm almost certain is a lie but I was wondering how it was... especially compared to other 787s with the 3-3-3 config
