The "slap switch" cuts the mids to give a thick, scooped slap tone. This bass does not go passive, it is always active. Dang...even the camera was groovin' for a minute there....!
Johnny, 1st of all, many blessings to you and yours. Now, I'm new to your page but I "Absolutely" love it! Your approach to music, comedy, etc. is so very refreshing. You're a sharp dresser and a very good player too. I've learned so much about being myself because I too love humor and music. I'm starting a business soon of re-conditioning guitars and i've been playing bass now for 39 years. Please brother, don't change a thing, we love you just the way you are. Peace and Love.
@@LONGCASTLE777 it came with no pickguard? I love it!! Love your channel!! Like he said dont change a thing!! You make me want to leave fl and move to VA
The fingerboard is "Ebanol", a composite. Brighter than maple in my opinion. Squier calls it a "Slap Switch", basically passive/active. I own two. My last 4 basses and last 2 guitars have all been squiers, made in Indonesia. I love the feel of fenders, so I hot rod my cost effective Squiers and for under $400-$500, I don't miss a beat. 39 years of playing, recording, and countless gospel concerts taught me how to save!
are these active pickups or passive with an active preamp? i got a tonemonster seb3-abmt and can not get sound out of the pickups... only hum. Tonemonster says this preamp does not work with active pickups. I am thinking these pickups are active.. can you confirm?
That is Squier's BEST bass. I know a guy TOURING with it, and he had his choice from endorsements of anything he wanted. I borrowed his when he moved up to another, and my opinion: good news/bad news. Good news: a BEAST on sound. Bad news: it won't hold up build wise. Other than that....it's the ONE.
I'll put my Squier P-Special up against any high end Fender. The neck is perfect, tone is awesome, action it low & smooth. It plays like a monster. I could not have gotten luckier when I picked it up. I had to have it. When I brought it to the clerk to buy it, I felt like I was finally getting one over on the store and boutique snobs. And ya know what? I did.
Hey Johnny, I have one of these basses and I love it, and every bass player that has put hands on it loves and cannot believe how great it sounds. I got mine off Ebay quite a number of years ago for $150. I use it at church a lot and sometimes on other gigs. Blessings to you and your family!
I've ALWAYS loved Fender, when I got my Ibanez TMB 310,I actually went to the shop for a Squier 70's jazz, but was a few bucks short, so I got. the Talman instead
I have this exact bass. I play it more than my Fender Jazz 5. To me it feels better neck wise than my Fender. Now I did install a pair of Barts classic bass pups in it and I always get props on how good it sounds. The pups cost almost as much as I paid for the bass used but mint condition. She stays in tune well. I’m never scared to show up at a gig with it just because it’s a Squier! Did you know Pino Pallidino’s son plays a Squier Jazz? Yes he does and I’m sure he has plenty of choices when it comes to basses. When I first it that I was like Wow!
mmmmmm!! I got a sunburst body version for 2 years now from a friend from college & he used it on his band's full length CD. I've been enjoying the beaut in my arsenal!!
I own the exact bass in a four string. It's an awesome bass and I would never sell it or trade it off. Later on I purchased a Fender P/J Bass which in comparison is also sweet. The Squier Deluxe rules. You can play anything with it. I love the Ebonol fret board.
just subscribed Johnny.thanks so much for these videos . i have the same attitude when it comes to basses ,if it does the job then i dont care if its a fender or a squire or a cheaper version .i cant afford to have any snobbery when it comes to basses. I love your playing and your humour. chatta ka ka
lol 😂 I bought one of these Basses used for $ 185.00 and it’s a blast to play.. I left it stock because I only paid a months worth of lunch money for it.
You play great...you're like a middle aged Steve Urkel though, but it will probably get you more subscribers. All you got to do is start snorting when you laugh and you'll be set.
Without a doubt. Got 2 of 'em - black and sunburst. Cracks me up when I get that, "ughh a Squire" look....Til I start playing, then everybody got questions - how does it sound so good?...what's in it?....how much are they? :) :)
Hey Johnny love your vids especially the live church ones keep them coming. What do you think about the ken smith design bass? Don't want to spend too much or would you buy the a squier deluxe 5 string?
I got one from Guitar Center for $70. The truss rod was broken so I watched a RUclips on removing the truss rod. I am waiting for Titanium reinforcement rods, a truss rod, and a fretboard.
Man I watch all your vids and you could take a broom handle and a rubber band and sound good..keep'em coming..I had 2 of those a white and black 5 string. Neck was a little too wide for me. That ebanol neck is the same material bowling balls are made of if i'm not mistaken..anyway be blessed and keep'em coming.
I own both the 4 & 5 string models of the very same bass he played. The 5 string has a wide neck but the 4 string is very comfortable. I brought my black 4 string on ebay for $120. I'll upgrade the tuners, pickups, preamp and for under $500 my bass will stand up to any boutique bass. I love squiers.
Hi Johnny. We have that bass in church. But when the blend pot is in the center, the pup volumes are both lessened to roughly half. Is there a way to fix it? Sorry. I know you're a go-to guy with these.
Lay finger on the string lightly with left hand u desire, pull string with right hand as u are releasing the string on your left hand....check out my teaching videos i show u one one of them...KEEP IT LOW,my friend
I don't mean no harm Johnny I almost gave squier a bad name but it's the amp makes that bass sound like a toy on this side I don't know what it sounds like on yo side toys R Us
Awesome bass for the price. Thanks for sharing with us.
