The memory of past sins, I don't know why almost nobody speaks about it. I've always been told that after confession, God forgives and forgets everything and you are again completely clean...but our flesh still has memory, the flesh is weak and is still remembers past habits and sinful behaviours, and, you are not guilty of that, but the Devil knows how to use it, specially in that moment of temptation where our rational mind is not strong. It needs time for the flesh to recover from the past. Focus on God's mercy and keep walking, poco a poco.
I don’t think I doubt whether God forgave me but I wonder if I remembered to tell every sin because it’s been so long. Plus there is some articles on things to think about when examining our conscience. Some will take each commandment and have you ask yourself two or three questions. That’s what I was doing. As the end of the 10th commandment I said I knew what I was going to confess. But now I come across other things I should ask myself like have I committed any actions under each of the deadly sins. I also am now realizing That I often commit sins of omission. Or have sinful thoughts. Those are hard to remember. Because I feel I have to remember all these things I rarely come out of the confessional feeling at peace. 😣.

I understand. I think the devil uses our shame against us like he uses our sin. When we are consumed with shame, we are not able to accept God's forgiveness 100% and we can't move forward all the way. Very few of the Saints were perfect people, but they were able to move forward and do great things! Think about St Paul and how he persecuted and murdered the early Christians and then became one of God's most effective Apostles! I sometimes think of the people I have hurt through my sin and I cringe with shame. I am learning that if I focus on this shame I will be stuck where I am. If it is God's Will, maybe I will get a chance to beg for forgiveness from them personally in the next Life. I will pray for you and please pray for me to live the best life we can. Keep moving forward!!
You can pray for the grace of forgetting images, certain fantasies and memories of past sins. Especially if those memories pop up involuntarily in your mind. But also memories of past sins can be used to strengthen the virtue of humility. As christians we must always be cautious not to pride ourselves because of progress we have made in our spiritual life. We have a tendency to look down on other people that seem to be "worse" sinners than ourselves. Everything is grace. So, if memories of past sins come up, just thank God for His mercy and make it an experience of growing in humility.
Yes, move forward not back. Remember the past only when necessary, focus on the present (anyone who looks back is not fit for the kingdom of God). Don’t even worry about the future. Focus on your NOW and on Christ.
Rejecting wrong, abstaining from sin, praying for forgiveness expels the evil and allows God's life-giving spirit to renew the believer's life through God's grace & his mercy.

God is so good and I love his abundance of mercy he has for all of us. Poco a poco. So true in moments of temptation remembering that our sight is foggy and can lead us in an entrapment of our minds is a great reminder of staying away from what can leads us to shame.

Thank you, Fr Mark. I do beat myself up about grave past sins that I have brought already to confession. It dampens my confidence in preaching or reaching out to the Lord but at some point, I tell myself to be humble and still do the Lord’s work for Him. I pray for Him to give me the strength to persevere despite my fear of chastisement or humiliation. Thank you for your vocation, Fr! Please pray for me and my kids... I will pray that your ministry touch more souls and bring them back-esp. fellow brother and sister Catholics who have gone lukewarm in their faith.
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except wnat is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
God forgets because He loves us in unfathomable ways and we do not forget because we have not yet felt Gods true love and have not learned to know how to God love so we can love ourselves and forgive ourselves and rid this shame (talking from personal experience). God solved this problem on the cross. He died for us WHILE we were in sin and shame.

When you get to the point you dont like who you see in the mirror is a fork in the road. The right path is where you leave the bad behaviors behind and the other is giving up to resignation and despair. Take the right path, you may slip but stick with it and let God guide you. It is never too late to start!.
Thank you brother you are so right. Another thing I have learned over time is to understand that ‘the temptation is not the Sin.’ For our Lord Jesus Christ was in all ways tempted but he remained without sin. I totally agree that rather than thinking to ourselves ‘oh Lord I have failed again and fallen into that trap of sin’ we need to keep our focus on Jesus and keep thanking him for his forgiveness. We should keep celebrating God’s forgiveness rather than constantly reflect on sins already forgiven. I believe from personal experience that the Devil offen brings up our past failures and sins to make us feel we have not really been forgiven and as such we might as well just give in and sin again. We can feel weak and worthless because we sin but equally as you say we can positively prepare to resist the Devil firm in our faith and trust in our Lord Jesus. As you say we will loose battles but through our Lord Jesus we will finally win the war against sin.

The memory of past sins, I don't know why almost nobody speaks about it. I've always been told that after confession, God forgives and forgets everything and you are again completely clean...but our flesh still has memory, the flesh is weak and is still remembers past habits and sinful behaviours, and, you are not guilty of that, but the Devil knows how to use it, specially in that moment of temptation where our rational mind is not strong. It needs time for the flesh to recover from the past. Focus on God's mercy and keep walking, poco a poco.
I don’t think I doubt whether God forgave me but I wonder if I remembered to tell every sin because it’s been so long. Plus there is some articles on things to think about when examining our conscience. Some will take each commandment and have you ask yourself two or three questions. That’s what I was doing. As the end of the 10th commandment I said I knew what I was going to confess.
But now I come across other things I should ask myself like have I committed any actions under each of the deadly sins. I also am now realizing That I often commit sins of omission. Or have sinful thoughts. Those are hard to remember. Because I feel I have to remember all these things I rarely come out of the confessional feeling at peace. 😣.

I can’t sleep at night because I start to remember all the stupid stuff I’ve done. I’m glad God forgave me for my sins but I still feel shame
I understand. I think the devil uses our shame against us like he uses our sin. When we are consumed with shame, we are not able to accept God's forgiveness 100% and we can't move forward all the way. Very few of the Saints were perfect people, but they were able to move forward and do great things! Think about St Paul and how he persecuted and murdered the early Christians and then became one of God's most effective Apostles! I sometimes think of the people I have hurt through my sin and I cringe with shame. I am learning that if I focus on this shame I will be stuck where I am. If it is God's Will, maybe I will get a chance to beg for forgiveness from them personally in the next Life. I will pray for you and please pray for me to live the best life we can. Keep moving forward!!
You can pray for the grace of forgetting images, certain fantasies and memories of past sins. Especially if those memories pop up involuntarily in your mind. But also memories of past sins can be used to strengthen the virtue of humility. As christians we must always be cautious not to pride ourselves because of progress we have made in our spiritual life. We have a tendency to look down on other people that seem to be "worse" sinners than ourselves. Everything is grace. So, if memories of past sins come up, just thank God for His mercy and make it an experience of growing in humility.
Yes, move forward not back. Remember the past only when necessary, focus on the present (anyone who looks back is not fit for the kingdom of God). Don’t even worry about the future. Focus on your NOW and on Christ.

Thank you, Fr Mark. I do beat myself up about grave past sins that I have brought already to confession. It dampens my confidence in preaching or reaching out to the Lord but at some point, I tell myself to be humble and still do the Lord’s work for Him. I pray for Him to give me the strength to persevere despite my fear of chastisement or humiliation. Thank you for your vocation, Fr! Please pray for me and my kids... I will pray that your ministry touch more souls and bring them back-esp. fellow brother and sister Catholics who have gone lukewarm in their faith.
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except wnat is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
God forgets because He loves us in unfathomable ways and we do not forget because we have not yet felt Gods true love and have not learned to know how to God love so we can love ourselves and forgive ourselves and rid this shame (talking from personal experience).
God solved this problem on the cross. He died for us WHILE we were in sin and shame.

When you get to the point you dont like who you see in the mirror is a fork in the road. The right path is where you leave the bad behaviors behind and the other is giving up to resignation and despair. Take the right path, you may slip but stick with it and let God guide you. It is never too late to start!.

Another thing I have learned over time is to understand that ‘the temptation is not the Sin.’ For our Lord Jesus Christ was in all ways tempted but he remained without sin. I totally agree that rather than thinking to ourselves ‘oh Lord I have failed again and fallen into that trap of sin’ we need to keep our focus on Jesus and keep thanking him for his forgiveness. We should keep celebrating God’s forgiveness rather than constantly reflect on sins already forgiven. I believe from personal experience that the Devil offen brings up our past failures and sins to make us feel we have not really been forgiven and as such we might as well just give in and sin again. We can feel weak and worthless because we sin but equally as you say we can positively prepare to resist the Devil firm in our faith and trust in our Lord Jesus.
As you say we will loose battles but through our Lord Jesus we will finally win the war against sin.
