The Real-Life Effects of Sin

- Fr. Mark-Mary and Fr. John Anthony Boughton share some friendly reminders on the consequences of sin.
If each of us could see our souls and the sins we’ve committed as God sees them, we would surely be horrified by the consequences. Luckily for us, however, God is infinitely merciful and is always ready to forgive us. But if we get hyper focused on the bountiful nature of the Lord’s mercy, we might start to forget the very real consequences that sin has in our lives and the lives of those around us.
Mercy means nothing without justice. We wouldn’t need a Savior if we never needed repentance and purification. And because of this it’s important that we recognize the ripple effect that sin has in our lives and the lives of others.
In some way or another, every sin is a crime against God and our neighbor, and each has a heartbreaking effect. Let us pray that the Lord increases our awareness of the consequences our sins have and strengthens us to seek out his mercy intentionally, without assuming we already have it.

Went to confession. First time in 8 months. Felt good. Will go to mass for the first time tomorrow after 8 months. Can't wait. 🥰❤
Praise God, and welcome back!
Well done God bless you 🙏🎉
How beautiful, I'm so happy for you!
Everytime we go to confession, heaven celebrates 😁
Beautiful..soooo happy to hear you did this ...nothing feels better than forgiveness..you made my day ..peace be with you..
Appreciated your statement “How sad when hearts don’t recognize sin.” We, as a nation, have made abortion politically correct and it is impossible to me that so many Catholics could care less that political candidates endorse it-Obama for instance voted as a Senator FOR partial birth abortion the most reprehensible form of abortion. One parishioner said, “Well, nobody is perfect.” Blessed are they who mourn(for the sin of the world) for we will be comforted, when Lord? My heart aches.
All of us are sinners.
Sins in all level is a crime against God.
Come Holy Spirit, makes us new.
Amen

"Somos peregrinos. Poco a poco vamos a llegar". Me encanta esta frase.
Forgiveness of one's mistakes and wrongdoings through Jesus Christ crucified is the way to be saved from eternal consequences of sin. I pray to the Lord for his mercy and seek forgiveness from known and unknown mistakes I make. Thank you, Fr. Mark-Mary and Fr. John Anthony Boughton.
Don't forget REPENTANCE/turning away from sin, upon which forgiveness is predicated.
@@wms72 Yes, Thanks for reminding me.
@@wms72 Easier said than done, as we're human being after all. I'd suggest also pray about it (the Rosary) as well for the Holy Spirit to guide us on discernment of those sins and to have the strength of the Holy Spirit to shy away from its path/temptation.
That is a beautiful way to state it, Richie, since we do not know the repercussions of some small mistake, even one we are not aware of. Thank you.
Pray for me Fathers, I have habitual sins and they prevent me from having the most beautiful graces of God. I want to be with Christ fully.

So hard to do, recognize His mercy and understand the seriousness of sin at the same time. It’s like accepting shame and trying to reject shame at the same time.

This one -- so important!!! It was such a gift to me that Fr. John Anthony Boughton mentioned abortion because this is huge. If, and these stats may be disputed but the sheer # of women having abortions, likely isn't, if one in three women has had an abortion, then the need for mercy is gigantic. Fr. John is correct that it is so very hard, once you've accepted the conviction that it is a sin and a mortal sin at that, recognising what you've done, is horrifying and makes forgiving ourselves all but impossible. God's mercy makes it possible, that is, the mercy that convicts and forgives -- both. Also the point that our world, our culture is calling some evil -- good -- makes it so hard to know when you need mercy. President Obama, a good president in many ways, giving the ultimate Freedom award to Gloria Steinem for her 'work' in making abortion accessible, is one example. And arguably both Steinem and Obama sincerely believe they were acting in the best interests of the human race -- they sure could be seen to be on other issues! Talk about confusing. The analogy of the sickness/physician is the best one I think. We need to have a correct diagnosis and that is really lacking these days. How can wellness or cure or health be understood if there's no recognition of their lack? Good video. Thank you.
Too many Catholics overlook the supernatural aspect of the faith.
Yeah because we are more attracted towards the external and material rather than the spiritual

I struggle every day with this one. I have found that if I start praying as soon as the temptation comes on then it helps, also looking at a picture of our Lord helps to clear the mind.
@@dominicm1121 As human being, we're going to have to face it throughout our lives. But yes, pray about it (the Rosary) would definitely help, too, asking for discernment from the Holy Spirit to guide us through.

Very good talk on this subject, Fathers, but I am confused as to why you mentioned something called illumination of consciences? Sounds very new age and like those spurious reports in regards to the Second Coming. I hope you're not implying anything about that. I would appreciate some clarification on this.
Thank you for all that you do.

Why go through all that hassle when ultimately one will be cleaned from sins in purgatory??
Can you talk about Yoga? There are priests saying yoga is a new age practice, there are priests also who see yoga as a physical exercise. So it really depends on the intention of the person. What do you say about this? I think many people are confused and needs enlightenment. 🙏
No, it's not physical exercise, it's always a prayer with your body. It always open a door to forces that don't come from God. Every position is an invocation to an Indian god. You know that supernatural world is real, you know that the devil loves to hide under species that seem to be good at first to fool us. Don't take the risk, just stay away from Yoga.
I think the principles in 1 Corinthians 8:4-13 applies to yoga positions as well as meat from pagan sacrifices. After all, just breathing deeply is also a yoga exercise, but no christian needs to be caught in worries about accidently taking a deep breath!
Yea, I've been telling my folks this Yoga thing is a way of worshipping other god/belief, which would be a sin against our 1st Commandment. And also, I believe it's the acknowledgement of it (been told but ignored) as well that would makes it worse as opposed to ones that didn't even aware of it.
People actually say that?
Sin and debt are synonyms.that is why yahshua paid the price of sin( debt).every one who is in debt is in sin.equity, trust is what the people have forgotten, for yah will judge the people with equity.
Why am I not getting captions? Please add
Naturalism doesn't assert a saviour god. We benefit when we act in each other's interest, wellbeing, practising the veil of ignorance.

3 Glory ye in His holy name; let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
4 Seek ye the LORD and His strength; seek His face continually.
Can I ask a legit question? if Jesus died for our sins, why do we still need to suffer with worrying about sin? Wasn’t the point of his sacrifice to deliver us from sin? Seriously interested in your answers.
Jesus' sacrifice made forgiveness *possible* but it didn't mean everyone is just forgiven for everything and everyone can just do whatever they want with no fear of consequences. To be forgiven you have to be repentant, and to do your best to avoid sin. We are saved through grace and faith alone, not good works, but part of faith is avoiding sin. If you don't care about committing sin then you might not really have the faith needed to be saved.
I always wonder why you Catholics call yourselves "Father So and So," yet JESUS said NOT to do that, for we have ONE Father...in HEAVEN.
Yikes. Do you have a father, or a grandfather, or a great grand father? Do you call them "father?" What about a step-father or an adoptive-father? You can say the word "father" and it can mean many different things, it's not as bad as you're making it out to be. And the role of priests are that of a leader in our faith, guiding us in Holy Mass and sacraments. Catholics know the difference between a "father" and The One Holy Father.
You can be LGBT and Catholic.
Dear Catholics, It's not praying the rosary, not praying to Mary nor confessing to a priest that absolves sin. If that were the case, there'd be no need for Jesus Christ. It's good to pray and confess, for the Bible states to confess your faults one to another that ye may be healed, but that person is not a mediator between you and God. That mediator is ONLY Jesus Christ! (1st Timothy 2:5). Mary needed a savior and so do priests!! They are not to be worshipped! Don't bow to nor kiss the hands and feet of statues of Mary and other dead "saints." Do not bow to nor kiss the hands of a priest! That is IDOLATRY which the Bible clearly condemns!! Also, Matthew 23:9 states that we are to call no man upon the earth "FATHER," this is in reference to religious leaders, not natural parents. Your priests are not to be called such, for there is but one Father, God. Elohim. Jehovah. Some call him Yahweh, El Shaddai, etc. He's the ONLY Father, our true spiritual Father. Hallelujah! The way of salvation is in Acts 2:38, "repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sin, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." That is the ONLY way to be born again (spiritually) into the kingdom of God! Repent Catholics of your idolatrous ways and your false religion. I pray God will open your eyes to the TRUTH in His word and that you come into a real RELATIONSHIP with Him, NOT RELIGION!
So funny u Protestants, talk about idolatry you should see some on the pastor/preachers/ministers on tv/ytube holding/worshipping the bible in an "idolatry" fashion
yea gee thanks all loving god for creating me so i can be tortured with suffering then die
That wasn't God's original plan. The first humans, Adam and Eve, used their free will to not follow God's plan, so they had to live with the consequence. It is the same for us, our sins have consequences that wound us either physically or spiritually. Really bad sins can even affect those around us and the people we are called to love negatively.
phoebe0a do we have free will or god is omnipotent which one is it?
@@Gabriel13099 God is omnipotent but that doesn't mean he *has* to use His power. He Chose to give us free will, which in no way contradicts His omnipotence.
I don't think you should be sharing the contents of people's confessions (however generalised) to emphasise a point about sin. This is not a trivial matter, don't shrug it off. Confessions are confidential. Totally. Not in part. Not negotiable. You should never hear confession again. Disgusted.
What? Don’t be so prideful as to claim to know more than these 2 humble Franciscan priests. In no way did they share the contents of a confession? How can they help people if they cannot preach about the sins that most people struggle with or if they cannot talk about the sacrament at all. If they did not mention a name, or indicate a specific person, they have not shared the content of any particular confession.
@@Dramaticdodo
Prideful? Pride has nothing to do with it. I have never claimed to know more than these two monks? Since you suggest that would be impossible, consider this. You have no idea of how much or how little I know so it's a foolish assumption.
Furthermore being a monk is no guarantee of wisdom. Finally, it wasn't a question of knowledge, it was a question of ethics. Must I explain the difference? Perhaps you could think before you accuse me of pride, if I'm ever in desperate need of a sanctimonious, ill-judged commentary I'll throw you an apple..
MICK O'hara The way in which you speak to me and about these priests lacks charity. Sorry, if you have been to seminary, please correct me, but these monks would have been, and so i’m sure they are fully aware to the extent they may divulge about confession.
@@Dramaticdodo See there you go again, making judgements, for all you know I could have spent eight years just outside Durham. I'll let you work it out. As for demanding charity, I think you've confused it with deference.
MICK O'hara As I said, please correct me if I am wrong. Hardly a judgement is it?
