    Off grid for me, no animals except for my dogs.
    We'd love a log cabin but might settle for a mobile residential caravan or lodge if you want to be posh.
    Thi dad is only 6 years older than me.

    Had to have a refill Ian whilst I was rewinding to listen to your question again.
    My preference would be a Homestead with livestock and gardening. As remote as possible, with ideal weather (of course) Self-sufficiency is the way forward globally though not a lot of people are lucky enough to achieve this.
    Have a great week. Mind the bats 🦇 🦇 🦇

      Hi Lesley. I’m hoping to have a veg area for next season I would like to be as self-sufficient as I can I’m half way there with the energy (solar) how’s things with you?

      @@OFFGRIDwithPeniglenHomestead All good Ian thanks. Was on leave this past week, back to work tomorrow. Will be playing catch up all week.
      Raised beds seem to work well for people, deep ones - less digging than if you grow directly into ground and less back-work.
      You could start a compost heap now, then the muck can be put into beds. They take a lot of filling.
      I thought you’d invited Darth Vader with the cool light!!! 🐝

    Hi from Edinburgh 👋
    I’d love to live off grid full time.
    All the options you mentioned are things I’ve fancied over the years.
    My dream would be to have something which is mobile (by land or sea) for holidays now.
    And when I have an empty nest I’d love to take early retirement and go off grid permanently.
    A cabin with some land. So I can grow my own fruit and veg and have enough space to rescue some animals.

    • @OFFGRIDwithPeniglenHomestead
      @OFFGRIDwithPeniglenHomestead  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi, sounds like a plan, what rescue animals do you fancy having? And how much land would you want to buy? I’ve been to Edinburgh a few times over the years beautiful place…

    • @purpleale7946
      @purpleale7946 2 месяца назад +1

      @@OFFGRIDwithPeniglenHomestead yes I’m lucky to live in such a lovely place with so much history and culture on my doorstep, but also so close to the Coast and Countryside.
      As for land and animals, land wise it would come down to what I could afford and manage and animal wise I’d want to be settled first and not try to bite of more than I can chew.
      No point trying to rescue animals then taking on more than I can cope with. So I’d start of with animals my household are used to (I’ve had the usual household pets over the years and the other adult in my household grew up on a smallholding so they are used to rare breed small farm animals)

      Hi yes Scotland is such a beautiful place to live, I no what you mean about taking on more than what you can cope with, I don’t no if you no I had a heart attack at 39 it’s slowly crippled my life I was doing far to much..

      @@OFFGRIDwithPeniglenHomestead aww sorry to hear that. Glad you are still here to tell the tale.
      I’ve worked in Social Care most of my adult life so I appreciate how things can change for any of us at a moments notice.
      That’s why I appreciate the small things in life. I own my own home but it’s small so I don’t need to work mega long hours to afford it. I’d rather spend the extra hours with my family rather than working extra to pay for a mortgage that’s higher than I can manage just so I can say I own a big house.

    • @OFFGRIDwithPeniglenHomestead

      when I was still in hospital after my heart attack I used to go and sit in the hospital grounds and people watch it changed my outlook into life watching everyone rushing around, so that’s when I new I had to take life slower,
      living at the cabin can be a much harder way of life but very rewarding. I really enjoy doing the RUclips and Patreon channels sharing my journey at the cabin its taken me with kevs help just over 4 years to build the cabin extension and still along way to go before its finished,
      i’m hoping longterm to have a large veg plot and build a studio..
