In step by step instructional fashion I put together this filing cabinet in my "IKEA ALEX File Cabinet Unboxing, Assembly & Review (Precaution at end of video) [IKEA ALEX Assembly]" video. This was fairly easy to assemble, however, I was highly disappointed during the assembly of the second one because one of the front pieces on the drawers was absent of the drilled faster holes. This resulted in having to call IKEAs customer service, and after waiting 20 minutes, I finally was able to talk to someone that was nearly zero help. It was quite the hassle with customer service and after about 15 minutes of trying to explain the situation and how we didn't purchase this online and ...blah blah blah.. they agreed to send us a new piece in seven to 10 days. So, while the cabinet wasn't all that bad it's good to know what you're possibly having to deal with. All of this after having to suffer the humiliating task of walking through the Ikea habit trail, picking out the item, then going and pulling it off the shelf, loading them on the cart, then wait in line to pay it, haul it to the truck, load it up, drive home, unload it, and put it together.

Thank you. I was stuck on Step 1 and I consider myself good at IKEA assembly. You may want to mention somewhere that this is for the 4 drawer unit. The 5 drawer unit has all of the rails preinstalled.

Just an FYI, I had a broken piece in my box. One the side panels that holds the drawers was snapped almost in half. On the IKEA website, there is phone number you can call under their "Return Policy" page to get a replacement part mailed to your home. As long as it's within their 180-day window, they will mail you a replacement part at no charge. Just make sure you have your receipt. They mailed me the part and saved me the 1.5 hour drive from my house to Ikea. My experience was pretty hassle free.

Thank you so much for this. After 5 minutes of wondering what the hell to do on Step 1, I decided to look for a video. There were loads for the 5 drawer one, but I kept searching until I found the 4 drawer one as there is surely to be a caveat difference along the way with the range! The first unit still took me 1.5 hours, but naturally there was lots of picking the instructions up and when they were vague, then it meant coming back to rewatch segments here.... Second unit went up in 45mins !!! Thank you!

I just got mine today and my second one was missing the part you showed that was missing holes. The front part of the drawer. Guess they still need to do better quality checking. Thanks for your video it was a big help.

…and Step 1 brought me here, then the last Step 34 😂. Good vid. To others wanting casters/wheels, the underside design of this file drawer model needs some hacking to make it work… can’t find any yet. Furniture sliders may work. The Alex casters are not meant for this file drawer unit.

I don't have any recommendations for wheels in particular. I'd say any smaller caster wheels will do the trick. @@mariepierchartier9848

I read a bunch of reviews that say regular Letter sized folders don't fit in the bottom drawer- can you confirm either way please? THX!
It will fit if you flip the plastic top rails around. This is the part that snaps on the top of the drawer. If you install them with the high part up closest to each other, it won’t work but…..if you just pop them off and put the part of the plastic piece that is the highest towards the outside ( farthest from each other) then install the round bar cross member, it’ll fit. Easy fix.

@@adriancx4934 they should fit if the top protrusions are closest to each other vs. farthest.
Please never use power tools when building Ikea furnture unless you are pre drilling holes for casters. the locks only require a 180 degree turn and it is easy to pull the screw down too hard and loosen it from the board it's screwed into. True it is just a cabinet that will not be under too much stress but is a common problem with ikea parts replacement.
