As a drummer/ percussion / and lead vocalist in band, this would be a great alternative to using bongos, which is what i'm currently using, for those gigs where bongos don't cut enough and where drums would be too loud.. I also enjoy the fact that you can sit on a chair or stool (which is how i play bongos) while playing these cajons, and be very comfortable. Great stuff and demo !
I've had mine for almost a year. Fun little instrument to learn. I play mainly at church. I use a regular set for most of the set, but the Meinl slap top is great for some of the more mellow songs we do. I actually found that it nestles perfectly in a guitar amp stand which I keep next to my floor tom. I have a set of mini congas in front of the slap top to enable me to add even more tones. Perfect little setup.
Hey Rich. Its been 4 yrs since your good post. Still hittin that slaptop? Mine is arriving 2.24.21. I'm in a 4 person folk-bluegrass group. Could you describe that inside-guitar amp stand set up?
This is definitely a beautiful sounding instrument. Very nice playing and review my friend! Can I ask you what kind of mics you are using because this video sounds great. Thanks.
The bass is pretty good on it, not great though. It’s a really fun little set up though and will keep you entertained and your back from hurting like a traditional cajon. I may post a video in the next couple days of just the isolated sounds this thing produces so you can see .
This drum sounds great, Paul! I'm really impressed with the tonality and timbre of the drum. I remember trying out a slap-top at Guitar Center...it was definitely foreign playing on a horizontal playing surface compared to a vertical one. Did it take long for you to adjust to that?
I would very much like to see, or even pay for a tutorial on how to slap the cajon like that :D I have slap-top cajon, but you are handling it greatly. A lesson or two, would be great if you can record. Cheers!
Hi Ross. Oh yea of course. Anything goes in music as long as it works for you. You might have yo shop for the right stand where it is solid in there. Good luck!
Just purchased this can't wait to try it out. Question, what gig bag do you recommend specifically for this cajon?? I saw a bag but was hesitant to purchase it because it is meant for the regular slaptop model, not sure if the dimensions are different on the turbo. Would the meinl bag work?
I just have a question, has your Slap Top Cajon developed any small cracks on the slap top? I bought one and within two weeks I noticed a small crack and then they got bigger. So I returned it and got another brand new one a month later I am noticing small cracks again! I really like it but it seems they crack too easy.
Hey paul that sounds amazing, was thinking of gettin the plug in one but now I'm thinking I could just use my bass drum Mike out front and condenser mic above it what would you propose cheers paul.great playing as always.😉
Would like to see a flamenco hondo with one of these...by the way, it is pronunced CA-jón and not co-jon, the second one in spanish means balls, nuts, testicles however you wanna call them! Not very cool saying you play ‘this new kind of balls’

very well played...what a cool and expressive Instrument!

That is AWESOME! You’re really good at it too! How would one go about learning to play this? Is it difficult?
I just picked one up and love it!
KB Basic how’s the bass sound with it? Here it reminds me more of a Congo. I’m needing something for worship music. Thank you sir

I just think of it as different from a standard cajon. The technique is more like that of a djembe or bongos. Thanks. - Paul
Nice! I have one on backorder at Guitar Center right now, can't wait for it to arrive. Good to see a review of this with proper mics/sound, thanks.
Thats cool. They are great drums. -PJ

Thanks for the great video. Can I ask, is it possible to place the slaptop cajon on a snare stand and play in a standing position? Cheers, Ross

could you please tell me what cajon sound is it at the end of the video? thanks
Slaps

I wonder what the water-proof carry case looks like.
Good sound...I would be curious how it sounds with some drum sticks (rubber or cloth head)...
Not all that great. You lose a lot of the bottom bass tone.
Anyone know the difference between the turbo slap top and the other slap top cajon with circle bass port/hole ?
Perfect to cajon
Awesome Review Thank You!
Similar to the Laptop conga, nice! :)
Great review! Thanks for sharing...
Thanks very much Josef. PJ
Would sound better with more range of sound.. with snare wires underneath at the outside edges. Sound ok but seems quite " dry "
I got to get my hands on one of those! Do you know where this is made? US?

Sun burn much?
A little bit. What can I say, the weathers been nice. PJ :)
Thought this thing seemed goofy until I heard him play. Sounds pretty awesome!
Woohoo
Not enough oomph for me.
DMO DMO that might be the way he micked the cajon.
