This cajon was a back-saver for me! I wanted a small portable drum with big sound, but I realized a standard cajon would kill my bad back. Sitting hunched over would NOT work. With the 'desk'-like top it solved all my issues. It has a great sound and I found that a light 'slap' gave me more sound than hitting a traditional drum. I love it.

I just ordered one of these. I like the pick ups and the fact you don't play it hunched over.
Think it'll work great for a few acoustic gigs I have. Bet it'll sound great hooked thru my Peavy KB60. We'll know soon.

Two questions know what Cajon Would you suggest for an intermediate drummer who has a limited space to use one in second how are the cajon with built-in pick ups?
Sounds great! I like the separation of the snare from the bass. That was something that has always bugged me. Position seems good too. Price has gone up 50 bucks in the past couple years.

Felipe - hi! I'm surfing around youtube for the pickup cajon's Meinl's now making. The unit you are reviewing here I bought when it first came out a couple of years ago, maybe even three? I love the tones I got! I generally did the bass with the palm of my hand and as a result stretched out the top and lost one of the two tom sounds I could get. Gave it to a young player in my church. I picked up the small "pickup" slaptop not realizing it was even smaller than the origional Laptop Meinl made (bought two of those, with one going to my son). I miss the tones you can make with this bigger one and Will Likely buy it with the pickup's in it! Bought Meinl's heel kick peddle, it arrived today. The cajon I'm putting it on is the Pickup cajon w/ Makah Burl Frontplate unit. Likely will lift off the brushes with thin foam shipping sheet due to the fact I'll be connecting the two together and this with the heel kick peddle will be my bass drum - snare and toms coming from the slaptop cajon (likely have on a pedistal/holder infront of me,freeing my right knee. Im more of a finger drummer and I'm glad I found this version of Cajon.
I got tablet cajob and cajon which I'm in love with. I got djembe as well but I prefer to produce base, a different version of base while slide it slightly towards you and play it.

Does anyone known any good accessories for this kind of cajon? I imagine foot tambourines or foot shakers wouldn't work since moving your foot would move the cajon
The Tom Tom sound with this is excellent! can't get that clear of a tom sound from my traditional Cajon. then again I am a total beginner.

Hey Felipe! I'm about to treat my self to mi first cajón, and I found a version of this one with 3 piezo passive pickups that I can afford. Question is, would you recommend a slaptop as a main cajón?
Hi Braulio, The slaptop is a great instrument that almost replace a cajon. As I've said its a different instrument but you can apply the same technique as used to play a full size cajon. You'll probably will miss a bit of the bass sound from the full size cajon. It's really up to you. let me know what you decide, cheers
I have this one and it is amazing ,deep bass,medium sound like bongos and snare on the end! Not so expensive and amazing sound!! Unfortunately must to have/buy cover/case because is uncomfortable to carry and transport.
Definitely get the bag. It makes the cajon a drum kit in a bag and protects the pretty walnut top.
Very tempted by one of these. Good price . Artisan one sounds great too but more cost.
I just got it.. Arrived today. Have you done any tutorials on this. I suppose can just treat it like a normal cajon and practice grooves from your other vids if not.
My first cajon, the finish is not that great, chips easily. The top cracked with in a yr. The good news is it was covered by the 2yr guarantee and it was replaced at no cost to me, they covered the shipping as well. My second cajon is a Meinl as well. A budget $99 and it serves me well for what I play. If nothing else great customer service with Meinl. My suggestion is buy the best you can afford and bring your game up to match the quality of your instrument. That being said, I like both of my Meinl cajons. The sound pretty good and are fun to play.

This is a great choice to play in a different position (horizontal) but using the same hand technique of the cajon.

I got mine when they first came out..a lot more expensive then😬separation is good but you need to tie a band around it coz it always slips away from you when played on lap...there is a nice tom tom sound on it as well..😁😁
Hey! Yes, I really like it. The bass sustain and slap tone are cool. And rubber pads? They seem to avoid it to slip away, no?
@@CajonMaster the pads don't stop the slipping...best to use a strap to secure it...tip...if you use slap tones at the right points..you can also emulate a Djembe....this is also a great cajon for using darbuka Techniques..as it responds very well to finger style as well..cheers..nicely done presentation
This is actually the first “cajon” I bought about 6 years ago when it was one of the newest Meinl instruments. My issue is that even with the rubber pads, it still falls off my legs. I usually have to prop my legs up to hold it better. Any suggestions to help me hold it better so it doesn’t slip?
Hi, I didn’t experience this problem. A solution for that can be to install 2 screws like the guitar ones, and use a guitar strap. I don’t know if it works, this is just an idea. I need to try it as well :) Maybe a DIY video 😉 thanks for the message anyway

Try to sit lower maybe? A smaller chair?
I sit on the floor and let it sit on the floor. I rarely hold it between my legs, I typically have the same problem with it slipping and don't feel like I can play as quickly playing downward like that. I enjoy sitting in front of it much more
The guitar strap is a grea idea. Can be done for less than $20, probably.

Because I'll be standing up whilst performing, it's tricky to come up with the best solution but I really appreciate your help. Ross

Yes I do. Actually you can use the same technique from a full size cajon. I have several students at cajonmaster.com using the slaptop as their main cajon.
Not enough low end/bass for me. A 14" djembe would be better.
Yes, I agree with the low tone is different but still nice with a good resonance I think, different from a djembe of course. The good think is the distinct sounds from bass and snare.
I found the bass was powerful, sometimes a bit much for a small room. Perhaps it doesn't come across as well on video.
Not great for portability. And there’s no snare. You get the same effect with CajonTabs and more versatility. Plus you can carry it around like a satchel. Over all way better design.
