Your mic did a great job at helping everyone hear the difference. I remember myself doing all 3 of these when I started lol! Great video my man!
Thanks Ross! glad you like it! Hope this video can be helpful for the new players, like your videos do my bro! 😉
That's how two legends talk, 😊
0:30 Mistake 1 - shouldn't play on the too low position of Cajon surface
1:40 Mistake 2 - should play with relaxed hands
3:05 Mistake 3 - Shouldn't mute the Cajon - play on the bounce of your hand
From Vietnam with heart !!!
Thanks a lot for the time stamps ;)
@@CajonMaster I'm also in Vietnam. Cajon seems super popular here! Thanks for the vids!!
I just started playing on a borrowed cajon, and looking into buying my own, when i ran across your channel, and am so excited that I did. :) I am already guilty of all three of these items, will work towards correcting that, and look forward to continuing to look through your videos. Thank you so much. :)
Thanks for the tips! As a drummer turned cajon player, I appreciate all the knowledge. Subscribed!
Thanks John, glad to hear that. Let me know which other topics you would like to see here. Cheers
Same here, btw you look a lot like my PE teacher haha
i have to play cajon occasionally for my church when the normal drum kit is not available, i always thought my cajon drumming wasn't good so this was a great video!
I didn't even realize is was making some of those mistakes. Glad I can work on them now.
Thanks!
Great to know that. Let me know if you need any help, cheers 🙏
Are they really mistakes though?
It's a box that you pick up and start bashing. As long as your timing is in line with other players in your band then it doesn't matter I get the point about the back hurting but I just adjusted myself before the next tune.
great info! I'm a high school music teacher we're going to be working on cajon this week. Mahalo from Hawai'i for your help!
Good luck!! Letme know if you need an extra help ;)
It's important that how we start practicing in the beginning. Very useful to take these three points into consideration. Thanks a lot Filipe.
Thanks 🙏
Wow, my alrgorithm keeps on getting way cooler on RUclips, this dude is THA MAN!!!!!
Welcome Daniel! Thanks a lot 🙏
Great video. Playing drums for 15 years but had to use the cajon on a Wedding for the 1st time. This Video was a great help 🤟
Glad it was helpful! 😉🙏
It has been a long-awaited dream for me to drum 😍 now I have the time and peace to tackle this. I came across your videos and I'm excited and will follow you closely to learn it. Thought about percussion at first but think I'll start with a cajón. Are there different ones? What should I look out for when buying? Would love to hear from you . Greetings Daggi
Man, hats off. This is a very good YT channel. I'm totally convinced to buy a cajon. I'm just deciding which one better suits my needs/goals. I'm selling my Bongo and buying a cajon.
Glad I could help! Let me know when you get it, I will be happy to help you more if you need, cheers!
@@CajonMaster Thanks, man. I'm probably going to buy the Schlagwerk CP432. I'm just waiting for someone to buy my bongo, so I can free up some space. 😁
Thank-you i really appreciate , you solve my problem i was doing same thing with cajon , but now i understand
Glad it helped
Your channel is really a fantastic source for learning cajon🎉
Glad you think so!
Thank you very much for this video< I am a complete beginner looking to buy my first cajon very soon. I came across your buyer's guide video and the other one where you play 12 different cajons, I found both very very useful! And I picked the one I would like. I subscribed today as well. Thank you!
Welcome to the channel! Glad I could help! ;)
Excellent instructions, well explained, , could you go over the basic samba and bosa nova patterns, am a conga and bongo player, but due to my hand surgeries had to switch to cajón instruments, if you have any instructions on how to apply conga patterns to cajón please let me know….thanks
Thanks Pablo! You can watch my Samba and Bossa Nova tutorials here on the channel. To get all the free tutorials and Pdf downloads you can sign up to the Free Tools area - cajonmaster.com/freearea 😉

I'm guilty of 2 of these mistakes. Thanks for pointing these out ! Now, time for me to relearn the caja ! Lol.🎉
You can do it! Enjoy the process ;)
Thank you. Subscribed. Love From India ❤ 🇮🇳

Guilty of all 3 mistakes..Thanks!

Seriously...love the T-shirt. Any idea where we could purchase one? I was hoping it might be something you would be offering as a Cajon Master product. Thanks, I'm finding a lot of helpful information from your channel.
Thanks for the support 🙏 The t-shirt will be available soon at cajonmaster.com. I’ll let you know 😉🙏

Thank you! 🙏 glad it’s helpful for you
Man I’ve just signed up to your free stuff on your website and I do all these things haha so will definitely be fixing my sound
Glad to hear it! Let me know if you need anything 😉
How to get your hands relaxed. Is there any technique for that and how can we understand if the we are getting a proper bass and snare tone??
EXCELLENT! as usual... you hit the points and make it real.... great job...
All the VERY BEST!
Thank you so much 😀
Thanks for the tips. I'm from the philippines ❤
Welcome!!
Do any professional players opt for the "shell" hand on the bass tones ever? I feel it has a slightly more "focussed" sound and helps differentiate from the snare sound more (from a beginner!)
I think any technique is valid if it sounds good and if it's confortable to play. There is not a definitive rule. This tips work for me and I see many beginners doing these things that in my view are mistakes but if it works for you, it's fine! Keep having fun and let me know if I can help you with anything, cheers!
@@CajonMaster I am actually using my fingertips on the middle of the cajon for bass. It sounds good, but I do have to reach down more. And I've never developed using the heel of my palm for bass as a technique. I may have to relearn how I play.
Thanks i just started playing and yes i made those mistakes
Hi Justin, thanks for your comment. Let me know if I can help you with anything else, cheers
I taught myself to play the cajon, being a drummer at the base, and when I saw the video I said "See I make all 3 mistakes", but to my surprise, I don't make them, because I find them strange, but, I've seen many who make these mistakes
Excellent video. Gracias!! 🤚
Great video. Thanks. Great sound from the mic. Do you normally mic both the front and back of your cajon when playing live, or just the back? Thanks again.
Hi Mick, for live I use 2 SM57, one in the front and one in the back
@@CajonMaster Thanks mate, thats great to know. Ive got to play a reggae gig soon and your two reggae videos really helped a LOT!!
Great demo
You are golden brother! Thanks so much for teaching!!!
Thanks for the kind words! It’s a pleasure to do what I do 😎🙏🙏
Very helpful. Thank you!
So glad!
Thanks for these tips. Always helpful.
Thanks Jonathan! Glad it was helpful for you. Let me know which other topics you would like to see here in the channel. cheers!
basic but vital. thanks man
Thanks, glad it is helpful ;)
Nice bro to Tutorial Cajon. Keep on fire
I think that mistake 3 is an important difference with drums (specifically bass drum) that we should take note of as the resting position of the beater is touching the bass drum.
Good point! Agree with you. Besides playing drum beats on the cajon it’s important to take it as a hand percussion instrument that requires a particular technique to play 😉🙏
@@CajonMaster Yeah totally agree❤️
Is it a bad idea to play with the heel of your hand/your wrist? I often do that when playing bass notes, mostly because I find that it makes a softer noise than when I hit with my hand, but I don't see many other players doing that.
Hi Rachel, if it sounds good to you it's not a bad idea :) I've seen some players using this technique. How it feels after playing for a while? can you hold it playing an entire song? I would love to know. If you want you can send a video to show me exactly how you play it. Here is the link if you want to submit a video - cajonmaster.com/video-submission-page/
It's really helpful .thanx
Glad to hear that, thanks!
Thanks so much! Subscribed
Awesome, thank you!
this in awesome my friends..
Thanks again! cheers😉
Thanks for teaching me how.
Thank you for watching the video!
Very helpful even though I will get a meinl mini cajon
Let me know how is the mini cajon going ;)
Thanks for this info!
Glad it was helpful!
Literally just seen a guy doing a Cahon tutorial doing that shell shaped hand. He reckons he's an expert. Takes all sorts I guess!
Gracias excellent information
Thanks Jay! Un abrazo
Dtb que piensas sobre ell Roland El Cajon C10 cost is 500.00 is it worth the money
Yo nunca a testado el Roland pero muy pronto voy a demonstrar el nuevo Eletro Cajon de Meinl, estoy curioso para eso. Stay tuned my friend 😉🙏
very useful video, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you brother your teach very well
Thank you! 🙏
you are very personable and do a good job. congratulate. I would just like to make a comment on mistake 2. it may be true for beginners, but in my opinion you shouldn't call it an absolute mistake. As an advanced player, you also use other techniques, because other techniques are also a different sound. For example, I sometimes use my knuckles to play or emphasize, or even the shovel. so, stay healthy and keep on playing ^^
Hi! thanks for you comment, glad you like the video and I like your point. It might not be a total mistake for some players.
Stay safe and keep grooving! ;)
Another common mistake that people do when they play the cajon and it drives me crazy is people only play the cajon with one hand, your dominant hand, Instead of using both hands, alternate right, left, right left if you are a right handed person or alternate left right, left right if you are a left handed person.
Yes, I know what you mean. This is a question of foundation, its important to learn the basics. Thanks for your comment. ;)
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Loving your chanel! Thanks for the tips
Thanks 🙏
Thanks for important video
Thanks 🙏 glad it was helpful
Thanks Bro!
Welcome!
Everything is correct, but i am not sure if you are doing it because of the tutorial or you are feeling more comfortable doing so, still dropping a low slap with your palm should not be causing you back pain if you lean lower, if you are not moving your back and it remains tensed or straight [because of a body size / positioning maybe?], you might get back pain, but personally i never do get back pain, rather the opposite i feel like incorporating upper back and lower back moves in the rhythm giving me a slight exercise and makes me feel more rejuvinated.
I do have longer arms, maybe that gives me a little bit more freedom, not sure.
p.s. i don't mean to sound like i am criticising your technique, i am wondering why you would recommend people to not go with a low slap, thats all.
Can you teach us, how to mic a cajon ? 🙏🏻 Thankyou..
I did already 😀 Go to my channel and search for how I record my cajon, mic set up 😉🙏
@@CajonMaster oh sorry haha 🙏🏻.. okay thankyou
Thanks for this video!👍
My pleasure, thank you!
after practicing a few times, my pointer finger, larger knuckle hurts a little (both hands). is that because I'm trying too hard and hitting too hard?
It’s important to play with relaxed hands. If you play tense and strong you’ll injure yourself.
I'm subscrice now.....a great channel
Thanks a lot!
Great video, Thanks!
Glad you liked it! thanks
Hello, are jhs pp Cajon any good

Brthr I have clapbox CB11 cajon so can you tell me how I tuned my instrument.
I don't know this cajon but I'm pretty sure it can tuned in the front plate. I will post a video of how to tune a cajon very soon my friend, thanks for your message 🙏
@@CajonMaster thank you sir
tks . master
Very helpful
Glad it helped
Hi
I bought new cajon online
In my cajon there is some coins on one leg I really don't understand is it related to a part of cajon for some sound effects or it is a faulty cajon ??
Pls help???
Hi! Can you send me a photo for me to see that. @cajon.master on Instagram
excellent
Mistake #3- basically have Rhythm
I am a drummer with over 40 years of experience. I am working on learning the Cajun and every time I play Iam am killing my fingers. Does anyone have a technique that will fix’s this problem?
Hi! The most important is to play with the hands relaxed. Another thing can be the cajon you are playing. I would recommend a more sensitive isntrument, where you don't need to play hard.
If you are just starting out, have a look in my Foundation course at cajonmaster.com. Here is the course preview - cajonmaster.com/course-2/
Let me know if you have more questions ;)
Thank you for sharing this. L❤VE !T
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome thank you
Thanks Brent! 🙏
How much does this Cajón cost?
Have a look - geni.us/AYPs
Thanks a lot! 💪
You're welcome! thank you
Thank you!
You're welcome! glad you like it.
Thank you cutie! ^^
You're welcome 😊
Guilty of all them mistakes, can only get better now haha
I actually the lower part sounds better; more bass it is. or maybe it was just you play too good
Thanks for your comment! Even if it sounds good, it's important to check the posture. Bad posture|=back pain 😀
I'm no expert, but just for variety of sound 1 and 3 seem like not so much mistakes as just over used.
Hi Caleb, thanks for your comment. This is only what I see that happens with a lot of my new students 😉 cheers!
good
thanks Hiroshi!
You are awesome
Thanks Rebecca, very kind of you 😊🙏
Hii
How to you mic the cajon?
Hi! Thanks for the suggestion. This is already in the planning ;) I will make it soon, cheers!
Cool accent. America chicks will dig it
:)
cool!
Thanks Sajan!
E esse sotaque aí mano, é brasileiro ??
I was making all of the mistakes.
in time to correct them ;) thanks for watching :)
Você é brasileiro né!?
Sim! ;)
@@CajonMaster sabia kakakak, parabens mano, representando muito 🙏🙏
I actually like the bass sound lower on the cajon. 🤷🏻♂️
Lol I was doing all of these
so the mute tones are options and not mistakes in the hands of a veteran player
Good point Luis! Of course muting can work great as an effect. The suggestion of this video is towards beginners to avoid playing the Cajon and muting it 😉
kahon?
not joncina its honkina
Here's an honest critique. To me you sounded like you only use the snare drum in a the drum kit.
Thanks for your comment. where did you listened to it? I was using only 1 mic for this video, the sound is now great. In more recent videos the sound is better.
@@CajonMaster yeah! Maybe its my phone.😁 Good techniques tho. Keep it up!
Plancha no concha...
Exactly 😉
Ja, ja, ja, ja.........
Tu é br?
