    Finally a woodturning demo that doesn't spend the first 5 minutes or so talking about BS

    one of the best parts of this video is it not working quite rite getting receiver out and you show us how that goes, instead of cutting editing and showing cookie cutter perfect situation. I love your videos.

    • @Geiserwoodturner
      @Geiserwoodturner  4 года назад

      I like to show my mistakes because that’s how I learn. From others mistakes. Also I think there is a lot of anxiety that comes from thinking that the pro’s don’t make mistakes. In reality I think they make more and they learn how to fix them or not keep making them.

    I just tried removing the receiver from 4 of these. I found the best way is boil for a few minutes, pull it out, stick the shaft in and twist as you pull. Came right out. I’m about to use your idea to make a few of these for gifts. Thanks for sharing.

    A great video and so nice to be able to understand everything you say as you speak so clearly. Unlike some who mumble

      Thanks! I feel like I’ve got marbles in my mouth sometimes. Glad it was clear! Glad you liked the video.

    You do excellent videos. I like the timbre and tempo of your narration. Not wild and dramatic like a lot of others. Easy to follow, easy to understand. Thanks. Subscribing.

    Nice project. something that you might like to try turning is stacked leather, It turns like wood after the glue sets. Looks Awesome, just something you might like to try...

      Thanks. The stacked leather is a really cool idea. I’ll definitely look into that!

    I made a video using the same screwdriver. It might have been dumb luck but I was able to get the shaft out of the handle in less than 20 seconds. I sliced down the rubber handle and at the same time pushed the metal shaft out with the blade. Great video btw!

    • @Geiserwoodturner
      @Geiserwoodturner  4 года назад +1

      Wow that does sound lucky 🍀. The first one I made was all hard plastic and it was a real pain to get out. This HF set is relatively easy comparatively. Thanks for watching!

    nice adaption of the pen turning process, esp. that you make the barrels yourself, and THANK YOU for these simple projects, have started wood turning last month, and it's great to have a project DESIGNED FOR YOUR SKILL LEVEL / ABILITY .
    the club I am at (northern turners; Golden grove , South Australia) do "judges gavels" as a competition piece and expect a rank beginner(me) to have an equal participation in a partnership with an intermediate and pro turner ???, answer:
    They end up confusing the heck out of you when one asks me 'what is my idea of the design of this piece?'- I have only been working on techniques of mounting & turning SIMPLE spindles up until now !!! and having AUTISM, this blows my mind!!, having to concentrate on not "throwing the piece" while turning it, and then having to "make up" the design as i go and asking the "WHY do you ....." and getting NOWHERE fast ; how does one "learn the Trade" when the pro's that mentor you keep these "trade secrets" like they were in MI 5 or similar organisations ( would they have to kill you if they told them to you ???) - hope to hell not. ( this is not hate speech or anything of the like, but just a statement of facts, comments, and a "name & shame" for poor practices of one club in regard to training someone with a Disability).

    • @Geiserwoodturner
      @Geiserwoodturner  4 года назад

      Keep up the good work. For me it took many years of mounting and turning simple spindles. I also had a lot of coming up with designs on the fly. I’ve learned that once woodturners learn skills it’s hard for them to go back to basics. Stick with it, be your own person, and the skills will come!

      Thanks! This wood is one of my favorites as well. I make ice cream scoops and pizza cutter handles with it and they turn out beautifully.!

    Hey Jason, that is a fine looking handle you turned. I have several of those HF screwdrivers and I will be trying to do the same type of wooden handles from different kinds of wood. Thanks for the great video and idea !! Looking forward to more of your videos !!

      That’s great! Anything is better than that ugly blue and gray handle right? Good luck! I think I’ll make more. I get those about every time I go in to harbor freight.
