- I've been investigating how the music is generated in this game, and I find it rather interesting. Here's what I've figured out.
Most of the music in this game is comprised of multiple source audio files playing at once, to give it a self-composing feel.
The number of puzzles solved in the current age determines which set of music files plays. If none or all four of the puzzles are solved, then the files are drawn from the resource folder LI_T, EN_T, or MA_T, where LI stands for Edanna (life), EN stands for Voltaic (energy), and MA stands for Amateria (matter).
Otherwise, the music is drawn from the folder LI_M, EN_M, OR MA_M. Each file within these folders has a 1, 2, or 3 in the filename to specify exactly how many puzzles must be solved in that age for that file to play.
Here's how the music is "composed". Usually, a file denoted as the "pad" loops indefinitely (though in some cases two different pad files are used). On top of that plays a sequence of "mldy" files, usually timed to harmonize with the pad (sometimes another label such as "pipe" is used). Various effects such as "stinger", "bells", "drum", and "squeal" chime in randomly throughout. Some examples of filenames are LI_THEME_pad2.wav, EN_M3_noise4.wav, and MA_M2_mldy5.mp3.
Many of the tracks in the Official Soundtrack are special arrangements and embellishments of the compositions within in game, particularly those found in the M folders. Therefore, these tracks are not actually present within the game, at least not in their full form.
There is no track in the Soundtrack that resembles the EN_M1 piece, probably because it sounds too similar to EN_T.

I'm so glad puzzle games like this exist and that there are people like you to explain it - because trying to figure it out on my own makes me seem really friggin dumb :/

The stranger: Not strong enough to pop a pod. Strong enough to pick up enormous iron/metal/crystal/wooden blocks.
It's really hard for me to conceptualize what's going on in the balance puzzle. I understand that you need to counteract the a weight with your own weight. Is this to make it so the crystal sphere has no incline and can thus travel perfectly along the rail? Does your weight sit in the room while the other weight travels into the opposite section of the scale? It's just difficult for me to see them as part of the same system.
@fieryphoenix2501 That's a good example of one that alternates two different pad files. pad2 in particular (the high whistle) is genius in its simplicity.
You know, we could have known that the rolling ball wasn't made of only wood; if it was, then the base alone would have counterbalanced the rolling ball using the 2:1 fulcrum position, which it didn't.
@Obdormio That was weird. Fortunately I saved a text file of that description so it's back up now.
That elevator is physically impossible to ride on. The lever takes up pretty much the entirety of the space needed for the occupant, unless the only intended occupant is Slenderman.
Looks to me like a security measure, since that's probably all the weight it can support anyway. :)
Remember, though, that the Stranger is just a floating eye and hand.
What happened to the explanation of the music generation? I wanted to read it again, but it appears to be gone.

that puzzle is pretty hard. Especially the zoom in crystal which doesnt appear from the far view is misleading.

Huh. Never saw that view of the sphere when you look straight up. Also, the thing that confused me when I was doing that puzzle when the game first game out was looking at that giant hunk of stone attached to the rope when you're putting in the wedges of the sphere.
I kept trying to figure out what that was supposed to weigh, because it SHOULD be effecting the balance.
Blah. Probably the worst puzzle in the game. Great walk through of it, though!
