A starter who can't consistently go 5-6 innings is a burden to the team, especially the bullpen. Assad is a very good pitcher, but showing he's not a starter
Swanson is an albatross around the team’s neck. He continues to try to pull everything. I guess he thinks he’s Ernie Banks, Hank Aaron, Harmon Killebrew, etc…all wrapped into one. Not exactly an effective leader.
The Cubs should make a few trades and that's it. A big sell off makes no sense. Constantly trading big leaguers for prospects isn't working. There's also the off season to consider not just the trade deadline. No one seems to bring that up. They need to be very smart and shrewd about the trades they make if they are really thinking about next year and beyond.
I think you have to give Hoyer some credit for what he said yesterday. He can see that this team isn't it, but if they do something great like go on an extended win streak, then it makes Jed think about what he wants to do. Taillon could net a decent return as could some of the relievers. Let's not forget we got Ben Brown for Dave Robertson. I would love to see some of the younger guys be able to come up to see what they can do and get that valuable big league experience.
Great episode, boyos. Could not agree more. It should be World Series or bust every year. We have the resources. We aren't the Pirates or the Diamondbacks. Squeaking in and hoping for a miracle is not a plan. The only position players I would keep from the major league roster are Busch and PCA. Take what you can get for the rest, even if it's just to clear roster spots for next year. Taillon and Neris are the best bets to net us something good from the pitching staff. Let's see how it goes. Go Cubs Go!
@@briandaugherty4678I am willing to give PCA the benefit of the doubt for now. If he hasn't changed your mind by the All-Star break next year, I'll be right there with you. It's still early and he's still young and I've never seen anyone play the outfield like he does. That alone gives him a leg up.
I agree, give PCA first half of next year. Mervis is a 4A player. Need to consider trading our 4A players for better prospects with big league potential.
And, this was a game the Cubs needed…not because of the wild card implications, but because of the number of jams the Cubs squirmed out of and held onto the lead. Plus, the Cubs caught a few breaks and finally took advantage of them. I’m still wondering if Dansby Swanson is nursing an injury. He’s wearing a compression sleeve on his right arm, and his swings don’t seem to have any power behind them. If it’s not an injury, then, my guess is that he’s trying to work on pulling the ball more, which was something he wasn’t doing last year. He’s gotten away from hitting the ball to all fields and that was one of his strengths. I hope John Mallee isn’t putting a bug in his ear.
Looking back at the last two seasons, The bullpen Has been a big reason for the Cubs not taking the next step. If they keep the bullpen intact this year. Next year will be easier to fill needed roles. I know that’s not a value play but I would sell off some position players instead.
@@BigLar56321 I agree. They do need a shut down closer. If they keep most of what they have in the bullpen, they could focus on signing a real closer. Personally, I think the Cubs should use prospects to get Mason miller if they can but I think that’s not a very popular idea.
The offense is horrid and it kept them outta the playoffs last year if they played better the games wouldn't always be 1 run leads putting to much pressure on the high leverage guys
Ricketts love Jed and they have a really tight relationship. Hoyer in my mind is going to be extended. Jed’s major drop of the ball this season was 1. the Swanson signing (still have time to right the ship for remainder of his deal) but Dansby “K” Swanson has been a *huge* disappointment. 2. No true closer. 3. Catcher. PCA needs to develop this off season and I’m sure he’s going to work very hard at his offense. I don’t see major trades coming or going from the Cubs. I see them just hanging back and if the team catches fire on their own, so be it. The thing is….on paper, you could totally see the Cubs turn it around on their own without additions. The talent is all there. Pulling out has been a FN nightmare so far. They over paid for their manager but put the stop sign on over paying players? That’s the problem.
Bittersweet times at Wrigley. My message Jed and Rickett family: Change the narrative. We no longer are a team looking to get into the playoffs. We are the Cubs and our goal is the World Series.
Prospects are gonna take years to get where they need to be to win, its makes no sense to sell!! Keep what you got until you can bring up what you already have in the minors!!
Let's get some more PCA type prospects and wait years for them to develop if ever. Jed wouldn't know talent if it bit him on the ass. Pitching s been great we need bats especially 7,8,9 in the order, starting with Swanson'
LOL, I’m optimistic they can make a run for the wildcard and that would still be a good thing. BTW, the Germans never bombed Pearl Harbor, it was the Japanese.
My question is, what does the future hold for Jed Hoyer and Carter Hawkins? Jed’s contract ends at the end of 2025. Will Tom Ricketts extend Jed once again to “finish the job” or replace him this winter or let him be a lame-duck president through next season?
I would rather the Cubs don’t buy and don’t sell and get hot then just count on Moises Ballesteros Matt Shaw and Owen Caissie for the hitters to come up so they can help out the MLB Roster. Taillion should be traded that’s the only player that’s not on a expiring contract that I’m willing to trade.
cubs.need too fix offense. Swanson 211 average PCA 118 average. Mastroboni 200 average.. So there's a 237 million dollar team that can't hit . So why isn't anyone talking about that!! Sell Tallion too Boston. Neris is drawing interest.. trade morel and smyly. Hoyer isn't Epstein, cubs should let Hoyer walk and have ricketts family go and get like a Ryno as president and Sutcliffe as a gm. Just a idea
The reason we are in this sell boat is Jed’s poor decisions and fear Of doing what’s needed to win big. How can we expect same guy to fix his mess?? Don’t get your excitement about selling when 4 years of that now has produced nothing at MLB level.
And no current 11:30 minor leaguer has anything to show by now. I’ve been a Cubs fan for more than 40 YEARS. PCA, Canario, Cassey, same as Tony Campana, Sam Fuld, Corey Patterson, Mike Morton, Derrick May, Gary Varsho, all of them were as hugh regarded as these crop. I had seen lots if them during all these decades. Good ones? Maddux, Prior, Zambrano, Kerry Wood. The best crop I ever seen? Of course, the Baez, Soler, Bryant, Schwarber. DFAing Schwarber for NOTHING should be the main reason to fire Jed and Co.
would hate to see Taillon go, but this team is going nowhere. With outfielders almost ready to advance to the major leagues, ANY outfielder that can be moved should go. And Cubs draft shows that they are hoping the corners will have good young players in the next 2-3 years. Bye to Morel and Tauchman and Bellinger and Suzuki and maybe Happ if he waives. This team has VASTLY underperformed, some of it because of the injuries, and lots because of the bullpen failures, and plenty with the runs scored, which is perfect for a losing team.
Cubs are in a good position to take advantage of the many teams still in the playoff hunt. But they need MLB ready or near ready players in return.
I agree
Yes
Easy schedule in September could help the cubbies sneak in I still believe man cubbie die hard here brother
Thanks for the show guys! LET'S GO CUBS!!! ⚾️✌️💙🐻
Go Cubs!
Assad is a keeper.
Yeah for the bullpen or middle relief I don't trust him as a starter anymore TBH
He's incapable of going more than 4 or 5 innings and his propensity for getting into trouble is not sustainable.
A starter who can't consistently go 5-6 innings is a burden to the team, especially the bullpen. Assad is a very good pitcher, but showing he's not a starter

PCA needs to start hitting MLB pitching and stop relying on the bunt to get on! I see signs of Mervis in him who just couldn't handle MLB Pitching!

Right Swanson tries to pull everything and he's also late on his swing with nearly every pitch, his timing is off
@@Aetnaboy73 He’s just not hitting the ball with any kind of authority.
I saw the old Dansby Swanson last night in his first at bat with that opposite field hit. The team needs to see more of that.
