    Watch Boyz N' The Hood Now: AAN.SonyPicture...
    BOYZ N THE HOOD is the critically acclaimed story of three friends growing up in a South Central Los Angeles neighborhood, and of street life where friendship, pain, danger and love combine to form reality. "The Hood" is a place where drive-by shootings and unemployment are rampant. But it is also a place where harmony coexists with adversity, especially for three young men growing up there: Doughboy (Ice Cube), an unambitious drug dealer; his brother Ricky (Morris Chestnut), a college-bound teenage father; and Ricky's best friend Tre (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), who aspires to a brighter future beyond "The Hood." In a world where a trip to the store can end in death, the friends have diverse reactions to their bleak surroundings. Tre's resolve is strengthened by a strong father (Larry Fishburne)who keeps him on the right track. But the lessons Tre learns are put to the ultimate test when tragedy strikes close to home, and violence seems like the only recourse.

      odds are Doughboy....or Po boy lives in a WHITE GATED COMMUNITY. Maybe Bel Air or Malabu...Or perhaps the best areas of PaLO Alto. Not a chance he is hanging with the race he portrays in the movies. Who is he going to hang with? The crenshaw Mafia....who would steal from you in a minute? Or Silicon Valley Multi Millionairs....which include people of many races who chose to be LAW ABIDING and respectfull of the Police and Military?????????

    Dooky mentioning "because they got different daddies that's why" adds so much to the depth of Dough's mother and the difference in relationship she has with her two sons. Rick could have been from a man she actually loved and wished she was still with (Rick reminding her of him) and Dough coming from possibly just a random hood rat in and out of jail.
    Got so much love for Dough's character though.

    According to the director, the father of Doughboy was an abusive alcoholic gang member who treated Doughboy's mother like trash and cheated on her regularly. He neglected Doughboy to the point of even denying paternity and wanted ZERO to do with him. When Doughboys father was locked up for life for murder, his mother cut off all ties with him and found herself a sincere, loving, and overall good man whom she had Ricky with. Ricky's father loved Ricky and his mother with all of his heart and showed it at every opportunity and even took care of and included Doughboy in everything. Tragically, Ricky's father was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting over the fact that he was in the wrong place wearing rival gang colors and was mistook for a rival gang member. This devastated Ricky's mother which set the catalyst on how she treated both boys differently from young boys to adulthood.

    Give Doughboy credit. Despite sometimes being a knucklehead the man reads and is mature. He realizes the college recruiter has something important for Ricky. And Ricky seems the type who studies hes not in college just for the sports.

    One thing I loved about Doughboy’s character is that yes, even though he was gangbanging, his character is realistic in that those who do it try by any means necessary not to tarnish the opportunity of someone making it out of the hood. He loved his brother and his mother enough to ensure Ricky’s success. It’s endearing in a way he knows how to portray. His character is honestly the most relatable and complex in the movie imo based off that.

    Growing up in Detroit, seen many households with different insinuations on why the single mother favored one child over the other. I’ve heard friends of mine say that it’s because we have different daddies, it’s because they’re the oldest, it’s because im a girl and he’s a boy and of course the most famous of all in the black community “it’s because they’re light skinned and I’m dark skinned”
    But sometimes one child does good and the other doesn’t and you can’t just hinder or stunt the growth of the good child to appease the child that refuses to get his sh*t together.
    So to all the ppl who despise the single mother because she chose to invest in the child who was doing right and rebuked the one who was doing wrong what makes you think you wouldn’t have done the same?

      What makes me think I wouldn’t do the same? Oh, maybe because I’m a parent of two little boys and would have both of their backs no matter what, even if one was super successful and the other a bum. Further, “performance reflects leadership”… aka its on the parents. At ANY point she could have had a sit down and said look, things haven’t gone the way we thought they would, but I love you and I think we should focus on getting you squared away too because you’re both my sons. There’s no goddamn excuse. She has two baby daddies and is after her yet another man down the street (Cuba’s character’s father) instead of focusing on her other kid.

    • @wraynephew6838
      @wraynephew6838 Год назад

      utter nonsense. If you bring children in this world; it is your responsibility to raise them equally and with respect for themselves and others. There is no such thing as "hinder or stunt the growth of the good child to appease the child that refuses to get his sh*T together"
      As a parent it is your responsibility to force that child to get their Sh*t together. Too many in the black community just give up on their children because they are too lazy to deal with the real life effort it takes to properly raise children into adults.
      No Child of mine would ever end up like dough boy or Ricky for that matter.
