Angela's character being annoyed and assertive at the teacher was justified. The teacher was using various stigmatism in her means to "help" Tre. Tre got issues and Reva knows she need to nip it in the bud. Sending Tre to live with his father Furious is the best decision for her son. There's a reason why his nickname is "Furious".
@Paulo HernanndizzGood catch in the initial start of the phone call. The minute the teacher asked about Reva's employment status, she instantly jumps to a condescending statistic mindset.
@Paulo Hernanndizz to be fair in that neighborhood I'd love to see the statics of employed going for their masters. Teacher probably has never seen that.
One of the few movies, very few, I cried when seeing it. Great acting, great cast, great directing. Real life. Rest in Perfect Peace & Power Brother Singleton.
Love this scene, the connection a kid can have with his parents, even though the forms to express it can vary from parent to parent. Also I forgot how gorgeous Angela Basset was when she was young.
Treys dad knew when he asked those other boys the rake his yard for money they wouldn't do it because they had no example of hard work and discipline but still asked to see what they'd say
I think the best part about these scenes is that it shows how much different single moms behavior was in the 80s and '90s. Even well educated women that were bosses didn't have to say that they were bosses. She obviously knew that she can't teach her son how to be a man, so she resorted to the Father which was the right thing to do.
Being a child of the 80s and 90s to a single mother, there is a huge difference in the way single moms are allowed to behave. They don't call it the dead beat dad era for no reason. Women are to blame for a portion of this though, because back in the 80s and 90s women could just request full custody and would be granted it with full impunity, and the dad would get slammed with unreasonable child support fees and would have to go to court and fight for visitation rights. A single mom held all the cards and lots of dads would just bail. For the few dads that stuck around and wanted to be in the life of their kid, they had to put up with a bunch shit. That's why this scene is important because it captures a glimpse of what it was like. Trey's mom is allowing him to go live with his father, and furious is even thanking her for it. Nowadays it's much different. A court will typically order split custody of children, which means the kids will have to live with mom for a week, then dad for a week. The only times you see full custody now is if it proven one parent can't provide a home to the kids, in which case they will be responsible for paying child support. Any other living arrangements can be negotiated. The woman no longer gets all the say and determine the outcome of who gets the kids.
Bonus points that both parents have good respect for each and couldn't live together due to differences. But ultimately knew their child need structure in their lives. She came with Trey at a time where Furious was on the road to bettering himself as a man.😊

Point how the teacher asks the mother about her education and intelligence. This isn’t just showing the ‘life of Tre Styles’ but is showing in general, the racial tension between white and coloured people. How inner city people are perceived. And how the teacher says ‘His father?’ Assuming that black inner city folks, by stereotype, are raised without their fathers/single parent. Etc. Singleton was a genius🙌🏼
It’s not racist to notice patterns though. Today over 70% of black children don’t have a father in the home - is it racist to say this fact? Of course not .. Btw racism exists between all groups! I find it comical how some only think racism exists between whites and blacks

That was such a good movie ...this was always the most powerful sence for me .The mom realized that Tray needed his father to know how to he a man and it shows how all there lives turned out US MEN IN THIS COUNTRY HAVE TO DO BETTER AS FATHERS FOR OUR CHILDREN
A lot of this movie focuses on the father-son relationship, but it also has great scenes with Reva and not only shows how amazing Angela Bassett is at acting, but shows how Trey had 2 very stern, loving parents in his life who didn’t fight and yell in front of him.
This is whats missing in society nowadays! My dad was had me working from sunrise to sundown. It instills a work ethic and teaches understanding and respect. Kids nowadays dont even take the trash out ffs! Its the parents fault, they've become to soft.
That’s because the government makes it seem like working your children or disciplining them in anyway is neglect or abuse nowadays. Hearing stories of parents having their children taken from them has turned a lot of parents soft and it will only get worse. Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne are such a great time! Both ♌ Leo's. Such wonderful acting. They are a wonderful team.

It's a movie...
@@TheDeeStain You don't say...

I love how it seemingly took him hours to rake up just two bags of leaves.
The only leaves ON the block!
Lofl at both your comments. 3-4 sweeps with the rake and that yard is clean.
I know right! Look how small that yard is. It would've taken 10 at best
You aint lying!!
Yes Angela was gorgeous
Well I hope you don’t think she is any less today.
Angela Bassett is still gorgeous at going on 65.
In reality that choice is not an option, and the mother never gnna give up that check.
@@holisterbruxly4554 Not in all cases
She came with Trey at a time where Furious was on the road to bettering himself as a man.😊
Those jazz solos are so beautiful and nostalgic

One thing I didn't pay attention to much first seeing this movie is when Furious offers Tres friends to pick up leaves. Chris brushes him off while Doughboy mentions Chris works for his uncle which meant he most likely sells drugs for him lol
Angela Bassett 🥰🥰🥰 In this scene it had to be Laurence Fishburne in his prime to be able to handle sitting in the car with her and not beg her back because that’s what I would’ve done OMG

What, you think every father takes on that job and does it well? Hell, with some fathers a boy would be better off learning how to me a man from his friends, not his dirtbag dad. And moms can teach plenty of stuff as well.

@80s_Boombox_Collector Single mothers are horrible mothers. I know, because I was raised by one. Ended up a simp, and a pathetic pacifist. I needed my father. The instrumental by Stanley Clarke "Father & Son" is just stellar here. Nearly makes me cry. This film is a true masterpiece, and even still today it holds up both in message, and poignancy. Just beautifully directed, produced, shot, cast, and scored. They certainly don't make em' like this anymore!

Thank you!
I mean in fairness they were separated
It’s not racist to notice patterns though. Today over 70% of black children don’t have a father in the home - is it racist to say this fact? Of course not ..
Btw racism exists between all groups! I find it comical how some only think racism exists between whites and blacks
Yeah we don't say coloured anymore. It wasn't okay back then and it isn't okay now. It's racist. And by the way since you're probably not aware of this seeing as how he use that outdated word, it's not okay to call Asians Oriental anymore either. It's 2023, get with the program.

Lowkey wish we got a movie on Reva and Furious whole relationship. The way they talk with each other and the way they parent tre, I would watch a whole 2 hours of them and their whole relationship. Chemistry is so strong
I love this movie. It portrays how a strong positive father makes a difference in a young boys life and at the same time, it also highlights the negative effects of having an absent father.
Troubles? I ain’t got no troubles 😂😂 young doughboy was funny as hell
Harmless Things I was doing at 16-17 like sneaking out to drink a beer children are now doing at 12.
Get over yourself boomer. You guys raised the generations that raised "kids today." So much for "successful parenting".
Bro out of all chores the one I hated the most was folding everyone’s clothes 😂 dishes and mowing the lawn is all good but folding clothes god damn I hated that shxt 😂
This movie was my childhood. Going back to it every couple years, makes me tear up how much more i understand it and reflect upon it on my own life. I feel like everyone else who lives in the ghetto, NEED to see this movie. Definitely my top 3 of all time
Something I noticed is towards the end you see young Doughboy and lil chris on their skateboards BUT you notice lil Chris is on down on one knee as he scoots off, thats symbolic to seeing him in the wheelchair later in the movie.
I love how they showed that even though they were no longer together tray's mother and father still clearly loved and respected each other
The true message of this movie is about how powerful dads are. We see these boyz never actually grow up, they just get taller, because even grown they have no Father or direction. Tre is the exception, and even he stumbles, but finds his way again.
When furious leans in for the kiss to mama and she melts 😢❤ wish they where together in this movie 💯🙏🏾
