I went back and you actually can as well 😂 you know what Harrison is right a great man who changed film making with the power of storytelling and visual technology a great man. A genius!
It's about damn time this legend got the artistic recognition he deserves. Unlike so many other filmmakers today, he makes the kind of movies HE wants to see and doesn't give a shit what the critics think of him. Bravo.
You can tell how much Lucas looks up to Spielberg and loves the guy. If you look at Lucas's face. 0:49 It's the only time during the night where he genuinely looks moved, like he's going to cry.
At Easter 1997, when I was nearly 9, I went to the movies. I have no idea what day of the week it was, or even what I'd been learning at school then. But what I had no idea of at the time was that after I entered that theatre, my life would never be the same again. The movie was Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Growing up is tough for most kids, especially if you're autistic and the youngest of three like myself, but that moviegoing experience was so significant for me that I can now say it made all my childhood hardships worth it, and reflecting on it still inspires me. So, Master Lucas, despite everything, that is why, to me and I'm sure countless others with similar stories, the Force will be with you. Always.
+Jarred Kennedy Ouch. That's what so many fail to see isn't it. Those like yourself who have tough times like that (I can identify after having a rotten childhood too), a movie like that provides an escape and so many have no idea the positive impact that it can have. I salute Lucas for that alone and he's never once bitched that it's the only thing he'll be remembered for. Nice to hear that it helped you come through it.
I'm certainly not as obsessed with them as with the classic trilogy, but I really do love them overall nonetheless. By the way, I'm sorry for my super-tardy reply; I only just saw yours.
The opening statement that George gives shows his point of view better than anybody else, he sees that people only gave him that because of Starwars yet he had other projects that were well received too. But only being recognized for this is ridiculous. And he most probably isn't the only one inside the SW crew he feels this way
Thank you Mr. Lucas from a deeply grateful 53 year old who was spell bound as an 11 year old when you introduced characters that allowed a young boy to dream and imagine an exciting future real or imagined. When I watch your Star Wars movies, I'm reminded that an adult can still carry a little bit of a child in their heart.
Very humble speech, even admitting he isn't strong at writing dialogue. I still think it's amazing he considers the six Star Wars films one movie. Has anyone ever watched them all back to back in a day?

One of my favorite director and I think one of the greatest. George Lucas is a director that he inspires me to do what I love to do, watch and make movies. He is someone I want to be not literally but the passion he has, I to want want to grow that passion and drive myself to my goal. He drives me and I look up to him. :) I thank him for the movies he's made. I love them so much. I salute you George Lucas.
If I ever meet George Lucas, I will shake his had and say "Thank you for creating my 2 all time favorite movies of all time!!!!" 1. Star Wars 2. Raiders of the Lost Ark
Lucas wrote the story for Raiders and was its film editor. I'm not certain of what producer roles he fulfilled, but I am sure he did more than just cut checks. He definitely made decisions about the cast and crew. It was him who decided to have Spielberg direct.
Have a friendship like Stephen and George where there's a healthy competition, wide creativity and criticism, and best of all, support to your creative vision. 💓 Cheers! 🍻🥂
Now we have some Star Wars fans that still bashes him due to the prequels. I only bash him for selling the rights to Disney. I will give you a reason why. Before selling the rights, he let fans write their own Star Wars stories. Sorta like a fan fiction but being published. Fans creating memorable stories and memorable characters like the Darth Kane story and Cade Skywalker. It's like Lucas is appreciating the fans for creating their own stories and making them come to life. Now since Disney bought Star Wars, Disney is saying, "your stories don't exist anymore." As for me, it felt like they are destroying your piece of art work. It's sick.
He had a real reason to sell LucasFilm and that what his ambition to take risks with his own movies. American Grafitti and Star Wars are key examples of this, both worked really well, but if he did make a movie that didn't sell, then the people working in LucasFilm would suffer a lot of the collateral damage. He realized hes old, and he wants to do his "own" kind of movies without compromizing other peoples jobs, so to gave stability to the 20.000 people at LucasFilm he sold everything. But it didn't sold to Disney just because "money", the woman who would be the head of LucasFilm (Kathleen Kennedy) when the deal got sealed actually worked alongside George Lucas in the ideas and scripts for Star Wars 7, 8 and 9, the idea behind was that Disney would produce those movies, but once LucasFilm was in their hands, Kathleen trowed the ideas and scripts in the trash and betrayed George Lucas. Once he realized this, he rejected to participate as a Consultant/Supervisor in Star Wars 7 knowing that neither LucasFilm or Disney would want his vision and his risks. Hence... enter The Force Awakens.
No idea why he was even bashed for the prequels because they aren't bad films at all and the worst of them has an average score from fans and critics combined above what the average score for a film is. So I don't get it at all how anyone thinks they're bad.AND ROTS IS CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED being scored above R1 ROTJ and TLJ!
