Lucas is my favorite Filmmaker. His thinking is very different than the norm Hollywood makes nowadays. For proof of it, see THX 1138. That film was ahead of its time, and I have a feeling maybe Lucas originally wanted to make Star Wars in a similar style as that film, but realized few people would get it in the first viewing and many people wouldn't see it over and over to try and understand it. That's just a feeling I have, probably not be true, but who knows. Lucas is a genius, and should have received both Oscars for Star Wars and it should have won Best Picture and Supporting Actor as well. Christopher Nolan reminds me of him in the sense he does things on his own and doesn't get the recognition and awards he deserves.
@@BarcaReviewChannel also the last scene where Duvall is coming to the outside world with Bach's Matthew's Passion as background music is the only good bit of the movie, and also the fact that his best friend Coppola had to do the Godfather in order to recover some lost money. Yes, masterpiece.
It's a real crime in Hollywood and the film industry for the fact they still haven't given this guy a Honorary Academy Award yet. Say what you will about the prequels or special editions but without this guy, you wouldn't have gotten films like Terminator, Independence Day and the Lord of the Rings trilogy because he inspired these future filmmakers who would go on to make these films. Not to mention that without Lucas, many modern films like the MCU or Nolan's films like Interstellar wouldn't have existed without this guy experimenting with visual effects that eventually evolved into the outstanding visual effects we get in our films that we really take for granted. We truly don't deserve you, George Lucas. God bless you good sir.
He is an independent filmmaker on a grand scale. He stays outside the Hollywood “establishment”, he is a really a unique, talented man. He deserves all his success, IMO.
George Lucas is a creative genius. He had to really fight to make Star Wars. He got rejection after rejection before Fox gave it a chance. And who could blame the studios that rejected the movie? It was a movie that had elements of sci-fi, fantasy, western, and adventure. Just hearing the concept sounds like a bit of a jumbled mess, and George Lucas turned it into one of the most influential films ever. Hats off to you, Mr. Lucas, and well done.
Geroge Lucas is AWESOME! he deserves that award and is a Genius! (and dose NOT deserve the lies.. and stuff these. cough.. critics.. say, that stupid razzie awards de.. no, they WON an award for 'Most Stupid' already) Thank you George for making Star Wars and things (my fav film is Attack of the Clones) Lucas you are Amazing.
He is also a Hungarian and allied Mickey Hargitay, Mariska Hargitay's daughter, etc.. I loved these movies. Hungarian Gabor Cress well, Tony Courtis, etc..
At 1:09, where's the movie clips from Star Wars: The Original Trilogy and the first three Indiana Jones movies for George Lucas received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award?
The DGA got pissy when he put the credits at the end of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back so he could have the opening crawl. They tried to fine him (and Irvin Kershner) sick amounts of money. For putting the credits at the end.
SS is sexy..everything bout him is sexy ,sweet and cute .his looks( like a genius koala bear) ,his voice ,the way he moves, his brilliance and magic. Why he's never voted Sexiest Man Alive is beyond me
@UFOSPACE1999 Couldn't have said it better myself. I love the way he has always done it HIS way and doesn't need the corporate chains of Hollywood. Did you know he dished out millions of dollars in bonus payments to the entire staff of his company after the success of Empire Strikes Back? Now THAT'S what you want. Congrats to Lucas.
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and Library of Congress have a long history of establishment to document, to record, work. The Academy recognizes work as entertainment, and education to the public an art form of that recorded work. The Motion Picture Association of America working in close association establishing ethical guidelines for such work has done so with expectations of society, American culture, and the industry as business. Does free enterprise of such support education?
Please remember to cite me as the original author if you would like to promote it as such in all regards. I sometimes sing, on occasion but not professionally. If you can sing and would like to add music to my work as an author of co work, then lets get started.
because it is very very early in a career of a producer to get this award. he made some of the most memorable productions possible. in the later years it is good he got it because he can't achieve what he has done ini the 70s and 80s.
2 of the greatest Lucas and Spielberg

He literally got the best Academy Award, with people from space saluting him.
Robert Duvall is the only good thing from that horrible movie.

Oscar winner of our hearts ❤
Speilberg has presented award to Scorsese Kurosawa and Lucas
"...after 20 years, this award comes in what hope is a half way point in my career."
It really was, Georgey.
Referring to The Clone Wars? ;) 😉 😀

Lucas' hair always won an award, in my opinion, his hair style is awesome.
God like hairline genetics
It's a Toupe

George Lucas deserves that and more
Spielberg's hair deserved an award.
George, I hate to say this, but you’ve whispered in my ear too. False True ears are one with us both. You are a good man, George Lucas.
to think Tarantino was wrapping up on Reservoir Dogs somewhere in LA at this very moment...
meh
This is just months before Lucas and Spielberg saw the computer-generated test shots for Jurassic Park that would change everything.
you deserve that honor George, I hope the Tusk. airmen movie turns out well for you
I came here from Kathryn Sullivan's autobiography. She is the astronaut that caught the floating Oscar at 4:24 !
Me too. I love how nervous/excited the crew was about filming this.
i'm just glad they let the Brother talk
I love the background music in the beginning. He totally deserves it. Amazing to see such incredible directors together. =) Love them both
its just sad this GREAT man never received a standing ovation!!! Hypocrites!!

But don't short-change Willow. That's good stuff too.

At 1:09, where's the movie clips from Star Wars: The Original Trilogy and the first three Indiana Jones movies for George Lucas received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award?
that's right, I remember that too. I taped that, and might still have it stocked somewhere.
It seems that the Oscars youtube channel edits out the clips for the sake of copyright
dialF4flipit
It's from Lucasfilm Ltd., Paramount Pictures and 20th Century-Fox.
Basically, the Academy is bound by contract to publicly air clips of Oscar movies only during the actual gala where those movies are honored.
I know what George is thinking. "Why the hell are they getting my Oscar?" Not that he needs it, of course.
SPACE AWARD!
I remember watching this live on TV that night. But with a voice-over interpreter. So cool! Whatever happened to the Atlantis shuttle, btw?
Why was the Indiana Jones score playing rather than the Star Wars one? And why didn't he get a standing ovation here?
The DGA got pissy when he put the credits at the end of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back so he could have the opening crawl. They tried to fine him (and Irvin Kershner) sick amounts of money. For putting the credits at the end.

The Bearded Director's Club
I find it funny how mister John Williams is responsible for most of the street credit these guys have
He's great, but you cant deny that Lucas and Spielberg have great amount of talent themselves.
@@averagejoe6617 indeed. Crediting Williams really undermines theur talents

So he finally got one from the Academy. It was bound to happen...
@UFOSPACE1999: I don't think they stand for the Thalberg award of the Humanities oscar, just the honorary oscar.
Tim Tipton take a look at the previous clips of the award
They shouldn't have been so sickeningly restrictive. It's an attack on freedom of expression.
So did lucas get that Oscar?

Too obvious, even then. Willow is actually better than the prequels turned out to be.
He let his ego get the better of him later.
That sounds like a copy-pasted piece of propaganda.
Give him an Oscar for ruining star wars with the prequels and special editions.
