  • I review, breakdown and explain Top Boy Season 3 (season 5). I discuss the ending of the Netflix show and the scene that I feel is perfect. I react to the final moment between Sully and Dushane before Dushane's death, along with reacting to their relationship and how the moment was always meant to be since the Summerhouse series.

That gate between them was so symbolic. Dushane on the outside, desperately wanting to be outside of Summer House and the streets. Always trying to move up and move on. Sully inside the gate, inside Summer House, never destined to leave the streets and the life. All this while Summer House is burning down behind them. Fucking amazing.

Three times that we've seen emotion in sully (Jason's death, him killing Dris and him killing Dushane) were in my opinion the best scenes throughout the whole series. The fact that something could break his numb, non emotional character is simply immaculate. Just like he said to Stef - "Feeling done left me a long time ago", and yet he still managed to shed a tear. Perfect scene, perfect season.

    • @supremeworld87

I dont think that was the point. The whole point seems to be that the mantle of top boy only ever leads one way and that's to your death. It's always going to fleeting and short, because being at the top means everyone's out to take your crown. Every time dushane got to be top boy it was over just as quick as it began. And it was no different for Sully.

The whole respect thing is even greater in this scene because Sully is like after all I've done to be on top Dushane still has the balls to steal from me. Sully saw it as disrespect until Dushane explain to him it was desperation and figured Sully was to blind by his jealousy to help. They both never addressed the elephant in the room, and it led to their demise.

This season felt rushed. There were some perfect moments but found myself shaking my head at some of the decisions made. However, the ending was perfect, because we don’t really need to know who shot Sully the mere fact there were so many possible suspects and the subsequent anonymity of the shooter gave an added dimension to his character and his storyline over the seasons.

I think it’s just a symbolic death and ending. This place reality just have Sully like he have Dushane and Jamie. This end was like for me, stef ain’t kill him because he don’t worth it cause he know if he ain’t gonna do it as soon ad someone else will do. He ain’t dead in that car but it just a preview about what will happen to him in the future.

Dushane saved his life three times and put his own life in danger to get Sully out unharmed each and every time, so I don't think his loyalty is in question here. It's his pride 100%, he even said on the floor "you're lying!" He didn't want to have to ask Sully, only for Sully to say no or turn around and make Dushane beg or do a madness for it. Sully wasn't really done with Dushane as friends, but he made Dushane think they weren't boys anymore. Notice how Sully only ever showed he cared for Dushane in private when Dushane couldn't actually see him - the biggest moment was when he picked up the photo of Little Dushane smiling and it took him back to when they were kids on Summerhouse

I think the gate between them two was symbolic. They were very close to each other given their experiences together but it was undeniable that their relationship had a huge disconnect. Too prideful to communicate or perhaps they didn’t know how to communicate their love and respect for each other. The most important thing to them was becoming Top Boy and the best way to get there for them was self preservation. Everyone was expandable to them. In the end the realization came at the cost of one of their lives and that’s how it really be in life. Sully’s demise came from doing too much dirt. Yeah he was feared but at some point there will come a time where another will get you out of the way after being fed up with your doings. We may not agree about who killed him but we can agree the list of people who wanted him dead was long af 😂

Might be reading too deep into this but the fact they had them separated by that gate really symbolised that this was the end of their relationship as they were on 2 different sides now. And the fact I was watching it and was just begging for sully to just be near dushane in his last moments but they waited for dushane to die so sully could crossover. Was painful
Dushane dying on the streets he lived on for years getting power on is fitting for his character icl

Assuming it was little Stef who didn't have a change of mind and didn't shoot Sully, he came out the hero of the series. You just hope he and Erin have a happy future together away from the gang life, the killings and the Summer House estate. Just as Jamie would have wanted for his kid brother.

Yes Dushane did bail Sully out MORE.. but you can’t say Sully never bailed out Dushane.. honesty the most important bail out of their whole relationship is sully saving Dushane… when Dushane moved back home he had nothing and sully was trapping with Jason.. when Jason died sully used his money to let Dushane re up.. which led to the rest of the story! … so sully definitely helped Dushane .. he just never got noticed or respected for it!! And that’s what turned him into an animal!!!! Because he figured no one respects my gangsta well I’m gonna terrorize everyone then !!!

Naa man. It was only that ONE time from Sully. And even at that moment Dushane had a plan B. Sully was always a problem. Even when Bobby Rakes wanted him killed, Dushane perfectly understood why and just refused to do it. He couldnt even stay at the Top for one shipment.
It's always been a cycle, he goes it alone, screws up dangerously bad, gets bailed out by Dushane. Always.

    1:20 "If we're not monsters we're food..."
Though it makes sense in Sully's world, it still remains a false dilemma/dichotomy fallacy that's not true of the Top Boy world and in reality. There were other paths people in the show took that were neither food nor monster but Sully didn't see it like that... ln Sully's worldview it was all black and white; & if you broke the code, his judgement was black and white too (no passes/grey areas). To him anything that wasn't a monster was food and it was this very mindset that led to his undoing; as he made food out of his own team/family, leaving him vulnerable to become easy food for other "monsters" because noone was left to look out for his 6.

Alot of people saying it was a terrible ending but i think alot people just get disappointed when it doesnt play out how they expected it to in there head going into a final season.. yeah there was loose ends that weren't tied up and depth wise it was abit lacking because of the limited amount of episodes that they had to work with but in the end it was a realistic way for both these guys to go. It doesnt always have to be some over dramatic death scene because in reality these deaths happen quick and out the blue and thats what they did especially with sully
