Before we get ahead of ourselves we need a video on the differences between a race bmx and a freestyle bike in todays day and age (not like the early 80s where one bike was for everything).
Some more info: Sprockets and 1 piece drivers are mainly used in freestyle, but there are some 1 piece drivers and sprockets used in racing (usually they’re profile). Freewheels and cogs are mainly used in racing (you might find them on old freestyle bikes). Cogs are used most, and the hub is called a cassette. Freecosters are only used in freestyle. While not every race hub is an actual cassette, they all function the exact same as a cassette. Chainrings are only used in racing (though I do know there’s an old odyssey sprocket that had a little baby chainring. Also old freestyle bikes had chainrings). A spider is used to make the chainring work like a sprocket, like Phu said, but 90% of race cranks have the spider as part of the crank. Chainrings come with 4 bolt holes and 5 bolt holes, depending on what you need, and you can’t miss match either with the others crank/spider. Hope this helps someone😄
Really good series! Now taking down a BMX old Mongoose to mod up for some adult riding with new gear rear end. You're the go to shop. Thanks from the "old man".
I have that exact Shadow spline drive sprocket. I never mounted it because I simply can't get it on my spindle. A video covering how to mount a spline drive sprocket would be great as well as one covering the use of a crank puller which can also be a nightmare to use as I recently found out. Love your how-to videos, I never miss one. :)
I use a 28 & 9 on my Specialized fuse one Koi and it works pretty good for me. I can get speed pretty quickly and still climb hills, do catwalks, and spin my rear wheel on gravel. I think I want to go balls out and go 36/9. Am I thinking unrealistically? What's your opinion?
I got scared when he showed the sprocket and said it's always 24 and they give you a little washer to make the hole smaller to fit because I ordered a bigger sprocket and I feel like it wont fit now although it's the same brand as the parts on my bmx so maybe I'll be fine
0:27 "...a cog is usually worked in the rear ...of the bike." (alfredo laughs in a "that's what she said" tone)🤙🏼 😆

Both are self explanatory. No video needed.
God damn 2020 is the year of self learning!!! I have learned so much this year than the 15 yrs of system schooling.

The earth is a flat plane and the compasses are all pointing at paradise. I like the videos from epic the bmx shop.
Thank you very much. I am going to get a new crank and sprocket set up someday.
As an older guy who grew up with 1 piece cranks this is very helpful for understanding todays tech, thanx man appreciated
Whats to understand? It has been simplified. 😄
@@robertlund5694 yeah pretty much.I just never worked on them myself.

Epic yay. Thanks alf for makin this happen. My question for phu is how does he keep his hair so fresh?
Alf covering the mic for over half the vid caused a jumpscare when he wasn’t anymore 😂
Hi, can I use 1/2 x 1/8 chain on a 3/32 sprocket?, there is any risk of damage for both chain and sprocket?
Awesome!
I wanna see a cruiser 24 build and ride

Should I get a new sprocket because where the whole it rip wider for even tho I have the adapter in it to me it doesn't feel right
Mr. Cogsly and Spacely Sprocket
You need to have a video about race bike parts.
That’s a good idea. Thanks Jeremy!
@@AlfredoMancuso please do it soon!
I love learning..
But I fuckin live to learn from this man
Ok so my bike has a “chain ring” can I swap it out for a shadow sprocket?
