@taz biscuit I can't answer for her but I can for myself in thinking the same thing. When you were a kid, have you ever played with your friends, pretending that you were characters from a cartoon or movie or TV show that you liked? I have and I always tried to say I was the character who looked most like me (for instance, out of the Disney princesses I was always Jasmine, because I looked for the one that kind of looked like me). Now, this feeling of wanting to see yourself in characters or people or possibilities doesn't really go away. It's human nature. So when like 90% (and I'm being generous here) of the media, and characters, and beautiful successful people on TV or movies or even famous on RUclips are white, you sort of start internalizing that that's the only way to be and that you will never be like that. Even subconsciously you start thinking that being beautiful is being white. I'm latina. And when I was a teen I used to write novels. Except ALL of my characters were white. None were black. None were even mixed, which is the most common thing where I'm from. They were all blonde and red headed with blue eyes. So when I see someone saying that "Oh I'm glad to see successful black people" as I understand it is a recognition that "Oh, I can be like that too. This could be me." It may sound silly if you don't have the same experiences. If you're white you've probably seen a lot of successful white people in your life so that's just normal for you. But it isn't necessarily normal for others.
I agree with your notion taz biscuit. It shouldn't matter if they are Black. Who cares what race they are? French society doesn't obsess about race like Americans do. For me, it's just 3 beautiful and kind women sharing their experiences as foreigners living in a different country.
Candace Jones IKR!!! They represent black women well. All of them are well spoken, well dressed, and NOT FAT! They also seem to possess inner beauty. Best and safe travels ladies!😊
Ladies! It was a truly pleasant surprise coming across your charming video. The sister in the middle (who reminded me of Oprah's BFF, Gayle King) is holding it down!! I'm so glad that you all are taking advantage of your youth to travel. I made it my duty to do this because of my mother. when I was very young she would say to me "You are a citizen of the world" and encouraged me to have penpals. She died when I was 16 but just before then I asked her if she regretted having 5 children. She didn't of course but said she wished she had travelled more before becoming a wife and mother. There and then I decided, THAT is what I was going to do. My experiences have been rich because I never did the "tourist" thing. It was all about the culture! Just putting yourself in the spaces where the local people 'free-up" themselves is SOOooo rewarding! I've made life-long friends from those experiences. So Go On Girls! Grab those opportunities while you're young and the world isn't (as yet) totally f*%#^d-up!! One day I hope to come to France. This place, it's history, food, music and literature has always fascinated me. Hopefully y'all will still be there. Meanwhile, (as the old folks say in Tobago..."Walk Good!" :)
I miss my homeland when I watch all the " Paris" on RUclips !! Surely you've been enjoying your time in France, cause the Life Style is so much better compare to US, no doubt about it . I just got back from a trip to Paris for the first time. French culture is definitely more formal than American culture in the sense that you have to say bonjour every single time you interact with someone in order to initiate even the most mundane tasks otherwise you'll be considered rude. It definitely took some time to get used to but after awhile, I actually kind of like it. It seems like French society is moreso motivated by respect for your fellow man rather than simply "I'm a customer, I have money so give me what I want."
Thank you so much for doing this video. Just went to Paris for the first time 2 months ago and can't stop thinking about it! I feel like it's my soul city and I want to spend a summer there.
You are great, optimistic and very pleasant to watch. Your attitude and energy just makes me absorb all the information and makes me able to kinda feel what you are saying more accurately. Keep going with the great work because I, personally, adore you !!!
You girls are fabulous and beautiful! I don’t know how your video came into my RUclips , guess because I’ll be traveling soon to Paris, but I loved all your impressions and suggestions. Congratulations.
Wow this is so dope! Sisterhood, vulnerability, and honesty!!! We are hosting an event in Paris next year to bring together brilliant minds, activist, and storytellers from across the African Diaspora. Would love to connect with you!
I am 20 years old, and I know I may want to live somewhere else. I think that there are so many wonderful places in the world to choose from, so I have watched many "what it's like to live in ...." videos. I found yours to be the most helpful, fun, and easy-going. I am very grateful for your approach to the topic and wanted to let you know that it was very helpful, thank you!
Found this today, and so happy about it. I just got back from a tour in Europe, including Paris, and am seriously considering moving there. True, I didn't see alot of Black folk, unless you count the guys hawking stuff near the Effiel Tower, but I still felt like I could live there. Gonna watch more of your videos. Thanks for these!
I wish I'd have learnt French as a child. I was taught it in secondary (high) school, but wasn't serious in my studies. I envy people like Jodie Foster who go to schools prioritising foreign languages. I think to become fluent you really need to start very young. I've visited Paris numerous times via the Eurostar and would love to live there. You're so lucky!
You don't need to start super young! I mean, you might not quite get the perfect accent and everything, but don't give up so soon. I learned english at around 13/15 years old. It just takes a bit more time when you're older because you have to "unlearn" the meaning of some words and reassign them. Try to watch stuff in French (no english subtitles!) And listen to french music and read french books. Write a diary in french, hop on a penpal site ! It's never too late to learn
I lived there for 3 years I was married to a beautiful French woman I'm from Los Angeles California I agree with just about everything you said that's bad about Paris but all of the good wipes out the bad yeah there's no sun going to the prefecture sucks anything administrative sucks but you're in France you're living in Paris and somehow that makes it all doable. Sitting in a cafe watching all the tourist and all the parisians walked by while you're sipping a glass of wine having a little cheese a croissant it's hard to beat that I used to enjoy sitting at cafes and watching people walk by I always wondered when I first arrived why there were so many people at these cafes and why the parisians love to do this but I see it and I love to do it and nothing beats French baguette.
Beautiful video! I so miss Paris and can't wait to visit again! Luckily, the weather was absolutely amazing when I went, but it was incredibly hot, and many places had no air conditioning 🤔🤔🤔 I was completely caught of guard with the heat, and I'm from South Louisiana. That's probably the reason why I couldn't really appreciate the food, but, the croissants and palmiers were amazing! I love the walkability of the city amd loved how there were literally hundreds of ppl gathered around the river for picnics/ dinner parties. I was also shocked that it didn't get dark until after 10pm. Paris is life!!!
I am a Black British Londoner living in Lyon and I agree with you. This is my second year of living here, bienvenue à France! Also which camera are you girls using? You should visit Lyon, you would love it.

@taz biscuit you don't know what you're talking about. There are lots of African immigrants in Europe and their children are European citizens now. Many grew up in working class environments. And actually what's wrong with Black women being privileged? Would you have said the same thing if they were White women? Stay pressed

I hope that you had time to pass by Switzerland and have some chocolate it is only 1 hour 15 by car... A French living in Geneva ! 😂

Well I am FRENCH but I live in Switzerland there is much less paperwork and I only go to France which by the way is 3 minutes away from where I live in Geneva by car or I fly to Paris and other places on week-ends...you just need to come with an open spirit not looking for an American way of doing things...and everything will be fine but yes paperwork is no fun in France they love it ! 😂
Is that so much different in the US ? I'm french and currently live in Germany and paperwork is so freaking frustrating in this country, even more than in France
It's my first video of yours that I watch, but I LOVE it!!! You 3 girls are amazing and unique and beautiful and the conception is WOW interesting 😎 I am your fan from now👍🏻
Cool video ladies! The cinematography is well done as it sets the ambiance. The biggest one out of the video that resonated for me was the smoking bit. It is amazing that there are still public places (restaurants, etc.) in Paris where folks can smoke inside. Beurk! :-D
wow.. that final moment was magic! Loved it. For me was a blessing from the sky... even if that is Paris.!:) Merci bien pour partager vos experiences .
I moved to France, in Lille up north 2 years ago and i still have difficulties with the language and i will be passing my bac in two years so i'm quite scared of not learning fast enough. I'm in Lycée and i was so shocked to see that students are allowed to smoke outside the school of course but they all smoke infront of the school and i just found that weird
We did that too in my highschool we all smoked just outside smoking isn't seen as bad as it is in the US here even though it has changed a lot the past 30 years. hope you can try and travel around France Lille is cool for the people but it's not the best region to see for i'ts beauty haha :p
I hear you on that "no sense of urgency". I follow another RUclipsr 'I love Paris". She films people in the streets of Paris and France's coastal towns following fashion. One video she did the streets of L.A. fashion. The first thing I noticed was the difference in gait speed. American women and men have a much faster clip when they walk. I think Americans are so programmed to be productive and have that "get er done" attitude that we expect people in Europe to get on it and get with the program, but it's just not how things are done over there!!! I've been to Paris and other parts of France. It is a really beautiful and culturally rich city. Glad you all are enjoying life in Paris. What a great experience to have!!
Yes! A new video! I love seeing you guys in a different location and trying new things. I completely agree with Hanna when you talk about hating smoking. It's been a big adjustment for me as well here in Japan. Although you don't happen upon it a lot on the streets and there are smoking rooms and areas in the main station, you are allowed to smoke in the restaurants here and me being a foodie like you, it's such a turn off. I feel like it changes the way I experience the food because I have the smell of cigarette smoke wafting through the air. So I definitely see what you mean about that! Question: When you mention apparels, are you referring to clothing or does that encompass home decor or the general Parisian aesthetic? I'd love to see what that looks like! I'm also interested in seeing what Maya had to say about the social benefits of living in Paris. The rain interrupted her :( Anyway, great video! Looking forward to the next one! ;)
Oh, people smoking in restaurants is just horrible. Ah! Sutanya was talking about "apéro" and that she will show how she prepares one for you guys soon :) We had so much more to share about the positive aspects about living here so we might talk more about this in coming episodes! Thank you so much for the support!
Tranquillity is one of the reasons why we want to go to live in Europe because the hustle in the bustle of the United States is so overwhelming if you live to work you don’t want to live
Very interesting to have to point of view. We are latin that's why we can get "bordel" and slow sometimes. food is diverse and amazing quality of fruits, veggies ...
Can you please talk a little about what you are doing career wise? I think one of the major considerations of living abroad is figuring out, professionally, how to get along. Would love to hear about your work experiences.
I must agree the most detestable thing in Paris is the weather. But well, it hasn't always been like that. In the 70s, 80s, the seasons were much more marked than today and the four seasons were well real. The weather was nice from May to October. Unfortunately the climate deregulation of recent years has changed a lot the stuff. I lived all my life in Paris since I was born there (I have 52 years now - I'm French). But I settled in the south of France between sea, mountains and Spain from 6 years now. And if there's well a place to live in France, a place to experience the French art of living, let live and give time to time, then this is the place to be. ;) For the rest, yes in France it's really important for people you want ask something like your way for exemple to well say "Bonjour", and "s'il vous plait" before anything else, and still more to say "Merci" when french people have answer to your question. If you forget the politeness formulas in France, then you are likely to meet faces very impervious and unwilling to respond. You'll experiencing why one says that French people are not smiling and even rather closed! :)))
This was amazing to watch! Y'all are lovely! This is my first video watching you guys buuuuut I think you all were very helpful and you're French accents are pretty great! Are you guys still doing videos?
I couldn't understand what you were saying you loved at 2:50, I actually went back and listened to it 6 times and couldn't get it lol. The girl to the left (sorry, new to the channel and I don't know names) reiterated it and I finally realized you said 'apparel.' Otherwise love the video! Great fun energy
Great video ladies, very interesting to hear all three of your perspectives. I've been to Paris twice (only for 3 days each time) but I absolutely love it. The main thing I like is the sense of community and people not rushing around like they do in America. I would love to live there but like you I don't speak French. I was wondering how difficult it would be for me to find work or to live there in general as an English speaker. Ps. I would definitely be open to learning French but I would want to do it immersively instead of trying to do it at home where everyone speaks English.
Je découvre cette vidéo et ce fut une agréable et bonne surprise. étant parisienne, j’appréhendais les commentaires mais vous n'avez dit que la vérité. merci de promouvoir cette belle ville!

So beautiful!
The best part of my day was to discover your RUclips channel 😍
this video ended perfectly lol great to see some classy ladies living it up out there!
The rain was a perfect ending
love this vid. y’all are beautiful I miss my family there hope to be back soon
I really like this setting
Hey, that’s my neighborhood ! Welcome in montmartre ! ^^
The rain interrupted her :(
Anyway, great video! Looking forward to the next one! ;)
Oh, people smoking in restaurants is just horrible.
Ah! Sutanya was talking about "apéro" and that she will show how she prepares one for you guys soon :)
We had so much more to share about the positive aspects about living here so we might talk more about this in coming episodes!
Thank you so much for the support!

this was a super helpful video! Thank you for sharing this! We are heading to visit Paris soon & this video taught me some things to know!
Glad we could help!
Tranquillity is one of the reasons why we want to go to live in Europe because the hustle in the bustle of the United States is so overwhelming if you live to work you don’t want to live
I love this channel, the vibe, the people, everything! Hope all is well. Can't wait to see more videos from you guys :-) !
Thank you so much for the support! All is very well here and we will soon drop another video so stay tuned!
Beautiful video :-) My daughter and I going next month to Paris!! :-) I would love to link up with your ladies?
I NEED ONE MORE EPISODE OF THIS!!! IT WAS SO INTERESTING!!! new subscriber right here :')
omg you guys slay my whole entire existence
Very interesting to have to point of view. We are latin that's why we can get "bordel" and slow sometimes. food is diverse and amazing quality of fruits, veggies ...
The smoking would be a problem for me.
Can you please talk a little about what you are doing career wise? I think one of the major considerations of living abroad is figuring out, professionally, how to get along. Would love to hear about your work experiences.
I love to see blk women doing different things...so often they try to box us.#livefree
Paris has been a life long bucket list of mine
Love this!
Thanks, Emmie! :)
Love everything about this channel. I would love to see more contents from you ladies. New Sub. 🌹🌹
Beautiful ambiance and video!
You guys are so beautiful !!! Great video
