Great video Gary. We just had our sixth power outage in five months! We lost some tiles on the barn roof (which is knackered already) and our neighbours tree fell on our fence but nothing major! Lots of fallen trees about - some wood piles will be getting topped up for sure :D. Stay well!

I've not watched you in a while, you had me in hysterics holding the roof on with rakes. All the prepping of water, and oil and I was shouting at the screen for you to secure the little window that was leaning up against a shed. It doesn't appear to have blown away. Good to see that you are all still happily escaped. It's something I want to do more and more if only I could convince husband but it's hard for him, he runs a small family business that would be impossible to relocate.

It's sad that we don't have that here in Chicago IL. or much of the US for that matter.
Simple answer is that our schools have been gutted (not the emotional kind, but economically) over the past 30+ yrs. and education was pretty narrow prior.
I have to watch myself when out at the tap/tavern/bar playing pool or just talking to people, as my banter can take many seconds to never to sink in. It really is a dull/dim witted country. Eh... thanks for the vids. I'll control my stove/kitchen/social evny.

Love the intro, stay safe. Lots of love to you and your family from Manitoba. It’s Louis Riel day here, he opposed government, was executed and his village burned to the ground by the crown. Today the house votes to suspend our charter rights. More of the same from that crowd. Oh well. Off the matrix for a reason, be well my brother

Glad all was safe and you weren't affected too negatively. As for you not being a mad prepper....you're a prepper and you're definitely a bit mad so maybe you are a mad prepper, no? Good to see the family are over the dreaded C-19 they all went down with. It was a bit hairy down on the south coast, but I got away with no damage and mum (a mile up the road) just had a few chairs blown around her garden, so all good. I'm glad you mentioned about electric cars not being the greenest option in production, or indeed when the battery needs to be disposed of, but hey ho, they scuppered the cars that could run off water as it wouldn't make them any money. Side note: RAC man had to pay a visit to us recently and told us that there is going to be much towing of electric vehicles to specialist garages as they can't touch anything over 50v, so my advice, DON'T break down!! Take care Gary and family and thanks for the video xox

For once RUclips has proposed something really original , a Englishman in England in a farmhouse . I try to keep up with my English , I am a older French lady living in France and all I get is English buying French castles , manoirs , employing English tradesmen then asking for money to restore them !!!! I watched the first video where your son did the voice over and he seems to have a different accent from you , very clear voice . I have subscribed because I like what you are doing and in a very little way do the same things as you . You have had strong winds , yesterday we had red sand from the Sahara covering everything . I am now going to watch all your previous vlogs and also you will help me visit England . I am sorry about the length of my comment I will not do it again , but I am sure that I will always give you a thumbs up for your very refreshing vlogs . Bonsoir de la Charente Maritime .

Oi oi! Still windy af here in Ramsgate and I'm getting fed up with it! Loads of houses around us lost roof tiles, a few trees blew down around Thanet, couple of chimneys down etc., but luckily nothing too disastrous. The worst part of the storm for us was that my favourite garden bin has now got a big crack in the lid. Proper upsetting, that was. Glad your caravan didn't blow away - the power of the rake!

Hi Gary, I'm coming late to this vid. I'm so pleased that you had no storm damage and thanks for this great vid. showing your preparations for Eunice. We had an empty poultry ark blow over and lost a couple of roof slates, our farm buildings are mostly stone with one modern general purpose one, so they are pretty solid.
We are however in a very exposed position here yet didn't lose power somehow. So we were lucky. Take good care and I hope you manage to keep things off your knockers! Best. Johnny.

I n my family survived 90 - 110 mph winds here in Cornwall. I had to do some rescue missions and put one dog and rabbit in the car a narrow miss with a tree branch and the caravan going down the embankment. I have done all the repairs today and the caravan is now back on its perch the scariest moment was then inches away from being hit by a tree branch as I did a rescue mission for the animals whilst the rest family was in the car. But all ok now planning the kitchen garden and repairing the garden as best as I can glad to see you are all okay and safe. take care and see you all soon

I was really going to spend the storm down the allotment, but lucky Bob talked me out of it… we don’t watch the news but he heard it on the radio.. luckily really as there was so much damage there sheds flying about loads of glass everywhere… it was bad for lots of poeple! We are so lucky that we didn’t lost our power but that’s really worrying as you have done so much to save your food! We would be gutted if that happens! You want to get a couple of Lithium batteries and a mains charger as a battery back-up, then you have initial power after a power cut and then you can use the caravan power to top up (and a back-up diesel genny to charge batteries (diesel is safer to store)) if cloudy & there's no solar.
But I would seriously get some off-grid solar to be able to keep batteries topped up, one on the shed roof would do.
Can see more power cuts coming real soon?
Also buy some threaded bar and secure the roof panels through the joists with wide washers and nylon locking nuts (may hold in the wind)? or some lorry ratchet straps?

We have only just finished paying the electric car off, its been hard work and i have also been putting in many hours with the lumberjack for extra cash, setting up is very expensive ! it would be a lot easier just living in a caravan instead of trying to do it large scale in a house ! thanks and take good care

Ours is made by a company called Rayburn, there are other cheaper makes out there though. Its a very slow process getting all the correct equipment to live of grid, we have been saving for over 15 years to help buy things like this. great idea about the silver blankets, thanks and take good care.

Hi Gary, hope you're all doing well. I was getting worried as I was running out of things to watch and was going to have to dig out my old Ron Jeremy videos!
Storm Frank here now, fed up with the weather as I cant get much done. I've got a 1000 litre IBC tank on the back of the van and want to get it off and set up as running out of water butts. Want this one to collect water for the washing machine. Keep posting mate, take care, Chris.

Hello Chris, sorry for a very late reply, the harvesting water to run a washing machine is a great idea, i did do this on my last house in the town and it worked great, we collected all the rain water from the house roof then connected the water storage to a 12v caravan water pump run from solar charging on a 12v leisure battery. we had a change over tap to connect back to the mains for them long hot summers with less rain. We used just a small water filter after the pump ( a string wound filter that we cleaned about every 3 months) . Thanks so much for your comment as i enjoy reading how others are getting on. good luck and take good care, Frugal is becoming so important with the situation happening today ! your one step ahead of the game !

WOW!! Very stressful time for you all, Glad you all got through safely and you experienced very little damage on the small holding. Were the animals all okay? Reminded me of the power cuts during the 70's and early 80's where we had candles and played bored games. Well done for being so prepared for the worst and so happy your all safe! Best wishes from Plymouth where we seem to have missed the worst of the storm. The trains are still disrupted but thats all.

Hello Nathan, so sorry for a late reply, thanks for your comment. Glad you missed the worst. I can also just about remember the 70s power cuts and going to the petrol garage for some paraffin, we had an old paraffin heater in the front room mounted in the fire place. Yes the 70s were great times to live. Thanks Nathan take good care.

BTW, not all Etonians are twats Gaz, some boys actually get there on their own merit and bloody hard work. Sadly, no degree old bean, max you can achieve are one's A Levels. Stay safe over there. It seems like Eton and politicians go hand in hand, be it dead pig head fuckers or messy haired covid party hosts ! ha ha, It would be lovely to see normal people get a chance who are not Eton attenders. I though it was a higher education there, not just A levels. Yes the World is now even crazier ! energy crisis, soviet wars, pandemics, labour and food shortages, is this a great recipe for the collapses of civilization ! ha ha I did think the shit would hit the fan one day in the future but banked on it being peak oil or a solar flare ! perhaps i should have gone to Eton and i might have got it right, actually i would never pass an A level exam ! ha ha Thanks Moose keep safe and well.

Good video Gary and yes inspired. Last year I surrounded of oil boiler with additional urathane insulation and seen a massive saving I’m wondering if u did the same with the freezers would u get a little energy saving all be it ensure it’s vented for the compressor. I would love to see a video of your solar setup.hate these storms as we are very exposed and usually get roof damage so having to think how we can solve that problem soon

    • @ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD
      @ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD  2 года назад +1

Hello Marcus, yes its time to really insulate everything because of the energy price increases, the more the better. I'm going to insulate our old cottage more by battening, rockwool and cladding some inside walls with tongue and groove panelling. I've just finish putting 100mm of celotex and boarding out the loft. I'm also thinking the same as you because we need some wind breaks to help ease the wind as my roof is not very good. The only thing i can think off at the moment is planting conifer trees to grow very large in the future on boundaries but safe distance from the house. Storms seem to be getting more common ! Thanks Marcus, take good care

@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD if we had money we could wrap the house in 100mm eurathane and render over the top of it. U can get lots on eBay etc but serious money. Old house have to breath so cladding could lock in moisture and cause mould. U get plaster board with 500 eurathane on the back which u glue and screw to the wall and dry line. Maoist RUclipsrs show u what they do but I’m seeing a trend now where they are asking subscribers for input might be an idea to see the feed back. For me money is going to insulating the cavity walls. Price is 40 sq meter so adds up fast

Hello Matty, thanks for poppy by. My wood burning range is a rayburn 200sfw and is literally the heart of the home ! a perfect off grid tool, especially with the energy crisis now going on ! I work on occasions with a lumber jack so wood is easy and cheap for me to get. ( i sometime work for wood not money ! ) The one thing about a wood burning range is that you need to be at home all day as it does not heat up fast enough if you have just come home from work and want dinner on the quick, it takes about 2 hours for the oven to get to temperature. Our range heats the house/ kitchen area perfect in the winter as well as its on all day long and through the night. I want never be with out one now ! thanks for popping by, keep safe and well.

When you connected the solar from the van it reminded me of this setup on "Country View Acres" where his mains switch is connected to a switch to plug in a generator. I was thinking, you might be able to disable the mains power and connect your house solar directly. I'm thinking of doing something like this on Alanvale but with a generator. Perhaps it would be worth talking to an electrician. Start 8.5 minutes in. ruclips.net/video/MjUANluSZSE/видео.html
