Most sensible countries don't allow the general public ownership or access to fully operational military grade weapons and ammunition. There are certain places in the UK where under strict control military weapons and explosives can be used for demonstration or filming purposes. Ownership of deactivated or even reproduction weapons means strict rules and tons of paperwork. The whole series as much as I like it is contrived and obviously aimed at the American market. Freddie was a genuine para having fought in Afghanistan and it took some convincing to get him to tell of his experiences. What we know about Bruce's military career is zero but for some reason he does prefer wearing American airborne regiment paraphernalia rather than British. A story of 2 Shermans. ...... My family had a country house in South Devon, high on a hill overlooking a valley. ...... About a mile and a half away lived a man who looked like an 18th century aristocrat, and had a 3 ton bronze cannon on a huge oak gun carriage. ...... It was raised from HMS Association, which sunk in a gale in 1707 off the Scilly Islands, off West Cornwall. ...... His favourite party trick was to load it with black powder and carpet wadding, and fire it. ...... Every time he did so, the windows at Cleeve would rattle, infuriating my father. ...... He was a WW2 submarine officer on HMS Torbay, in charge of the 4 inch gun used in surface actions, and no longer keen on loud bangs, having been parly deafened by them during the war. Someone offered me 2 Shermans when I was in my late teens. ...... I forget if it was £500 the pair or each, but I dreamed of mounting one each end of the terrace, and firing back! ...... My mother owned the house, and had herself served in WW in FANY, involved in French Section, Special Operations Executive - of which she said precisely nothing - I connected the dots after she died. ...... Although part of the US 29th Division had been camped in the local village in 1944, and had shot small arms on the 1908 Territorial Force rifle range in our meadows, my mother was not impressed by the idea of 2 Shermans parked on her terrace!
the firing of the Sherman was a load of bollocks that first shot you could clearly see the explosion coming from the back and since when does wood set fire from a tank shell, it spoils programs like this when they bullshit the public, it puts you off the program.
I didn't see the barrel recoil at all! And when they fire the rocks a bit . I didn't see that at all . And the bren carrier where the shell hit looked all rusty to me . Hmmm a little Hollywood magic i think !

Definitely not. Try it and see how long you get in prison assuming the police don't test their weapons on you first. The laws in the UK are ultra strict. If you even have a second world war jeep for re-enactments you can drive it to the venue but I believe that any weapons on it whether deactivated or fake plastic versions must be removed before travelling. After all we can't go scaring the great British public can we?🤣🇬🇧
Don’t know why Bruce bothers with the Hollywood explosions. Most of us that aren’t historians can tell the difference between a large firecracker and a live fire.
You under certain circumstances. Some UK tank owners do. The gun has to be smooth bored so it essentially becomes a large shotgun. Blanks can then be fired from them for display purposes.
At least it is allowed the gun. Poor Emile in Holland is looking at fitting the turret back on the skid without the main gun. It was fine in the U.K. but Dutch authorities are more hard core and have been sitting on the paperwork for a year. (Built in China, fought in Iraq, war trophy to England, being restored in Holland)
Yes, its for reality tv, but you also have to know that firing a real AP or even HE, that it really dangerous. Especially with targets that close? HE shrapnel could easily fly back at them before the camera could catch that one of their heads got decapitated. If they fired a real AP, at that angle, that round can ricochet a few miles away into only God knows where. The gun fired blanks which should be good enough for an 80 plus year old machine.
