A blast from the past. Was up there in 1969 when I moved to BV. It really has changed since then and access in not possible after a landslide recently too.
Attempted to approach the Alpine from the St Elmo side in early winter in 1976, I know stupid right? Driving the road up the canyon towards St Elmo and my wife asked why the road was blue. She freaked when I told her we were driving on several inches of ice from snow melt off the canyon walls. We made it to St Elmo, but couldn't go any further.
