Thy lovingkindness is better than life
I heard they’re gonna restore Amtrak Pioneer route soon. I hope they go through Wyoming cause it’s fantastic to see out there and I want to take the train through there.
Cool I wish Amtrak’s pioneer could come back in service In the near future
Up 844 Texas 2006
Up 844 2006
Up 844 blows it's original whistle
Up 844 cab ride
One of my favorite songs but I can’t remember who sings it? I first heard it when I was 8th grade in the 90’s. Can you please tell me who sings it? I wanna say the Heritage singers but I’m not sure.
This is the Heritage Singers on this version. I don't remember anyone else who sang this number right now.
A great song done by a fine Christian man!
Супер!
Riding a dragon!!
Ото зараза їде up 844
Why is Steve Lee pulling the whistle on 844
Any number of reasons. Warning railfans to get of the track or else a road crossing ahead.
Cut to 8:58 if you came for 844!
I miss those old Amtraks
55 años después todavía estaba la vía saliendo del tunel y el tinaco ya a punto de caer.
That was neat. Thank you. I am a fan of Colorado history.
Attempted to approach the Alpine from the St Elmo side in early winter in 1976, I know stupid right? Driving the road up the canyon towards St Elmo and my wife asked why the road was blue. She freaked when I told her we were driving on several inches of ice from snow melt off the canyon walls. We made it to St Elmo, but couldn't go any further.
Missouri Pacific also ran a train called The Pioneer, up through the early 1960s. I think it was a San Antonio-to-Laredo train.
I rode this train in '96. I had no idea it ceased just a year later.
Steve Lee working his awesome whistle cord magic as always
I miss you Mr Ford, so much joy have you brought to this Ole world, LORD GIVE MERCY TO MR FORD AND MYSELF PLEASE
Only those who believe in him sad for the other who reject him
As we Christians should be,! Great, beautiful!
One bad ass train!
A blast from the past. Was up there in 1969 when I moved to BV. It really has changed since then and access in not possible after a landslide recently too.
does anyone know who wrote this? It is beautiful
The song was written by Ralph Carmichael. Thanks for your kind words!
First I thougt he would rip the throttle and the whistle off. No wonder 3985 is in such a worn out shape...
That is a sad Amtrak locomotive
If only UP let their steam locomotives go this fast now
It would have been helpful for those who don't live out here (ie. flat landers, out of state ppl, etc) to explain about Tennessee Pass, for trains to travel over it, starting point to Leadville, they don't know how rugged it is here. And, the cargo, passengers, etc.
Great catch!! Never see footage of this long gone train!
Nothing will make the hair on your neck stand tall like witnessing about 100 US Marines singing this at the top of their lungs during a worship service...
Trump 2021
just a tinsy bit of wheel slipping at the start.
Wow hard to believe this is in 2000 would’nt think they would of been still using them
Just beautiful.
12 minutes it was fine up until that couple kept talking and the only noise was coming from her mouth. That ruined it.
Did Amtrak Went To Cheyenne?
They stopped at Borie, which is about 10 miles west of Cheyenne. There was an "Amshack" there at Borie.
As a child I remember visiting his place. My mother Dorothy Breen was a relative of Art's.
You are still here you must be doing something right. God Bless America,
Wow, amazing footage! Too bad Wyoming and Idaho don’t have rail service.
June 26th 1997 just 4 days short of my birthday
Okay who spray painted a face on that f40 XD
Tennessee Pass There is HOPE!!! Nov. 2019; Colorado Pacific Railroad is offering Union Pacific $10 million for 170 miles of its Tennessee Pass Line, running from Parkdale near the Royal Gorge through the lower Vail Valley to Dotsero. As of Dec 2019 the only west side recent Tennessee Pass rail line traffic is a train that runs to the American Gypsum wallboard manufacturing plant in Gypsum. The east side track above Parkdale over the pass to Dotsero is still owned by the UP. The track operated by Rock and Rail between Parkdale and Cañon City is still owned by the UP, while the track between Pueblo and Cañon City was purchased from the UP. The tourist line Cañon City and Royal Gorge Railroad operates on Rock and Rail (RRRR) short line section between Parkdale and Cañon City the RRRR's track is a subsidiary of Martin Marietta Materials.

August 2018 camped a few nights with friends on the south end of the tunnel. Walked through the tunnel and explored the old track and bed, and surrounding areas. August and it was sub freezing at night. A guy brought his railcar through the tunnel. A wonderful experience. Great to see this historic footage.
I wonder why Amtrak was short of equipment during this time. The Hi Levels had plenty of runtime left and the Superliner II order should have helped a lot to alleviate the shortage. Worst case scenario, they could have kept heritage sleepers and the Hi Levels, using them for routes that wouldn’t have Superliners available. The Viewliners would make the heritage sleepers surplus, so they could easily be used on other routes with Hi Levels.
Because there weren't enough Trans Dorms for all routes and the top of the Hi-Level Transition Cars were coaches instead of sleepers. The Viewliners were going into service at this time, but too many routes existed for too few cars.
Does 3985 have a whistle string like a whistle cord same as what 844 has
yes
Looks like 2WD Ford pickup.....back in the day.
Wow Amazing!
Steve Lee really knew how to get that whistle loud
