Great video man! I have checked out a few. I am in an entry level data analyst role at a bank, I graduated college with a finance degree and sort of fell into the data analytics role within my department. Since then have been working on google data analytics course and RUclips, trying to master excel, access, and sql as well as some visualizations. I subscribed and will be watching more! Best of luck
Hey Justin, Thank you for great content. I am a subscriber. Could you talk about the work/life balance associated with your role? I am currently teaching and enjoy what I do, but the stress and anxiety associated with being a teacher can be hectic. Being a data analyst seems like a good paying career that could also provide a good work life balance. Your thoughts? (Sorry if you already addressed this in a previous video). Thank you!
Great content Justin! You got another subscription from Brazil! I'm working on a migration of our performance reports from Excel to Power BI environment. All of our old raw data files are basically Excel workbooks. Do you think that might be a good idea create a SQL database to store all this files is a good way to practicing more SQL? Thanks, God bless you!
Hey there Fabio! Thank you for watching! Yea I think that’s a great idea. Once you build tables and your database, it will be easy to query specific columns and data for your data visualization development. God bless you too!
How come someone without work experience becomes a DA if most employers require a "Minimum x years experience" besides the projects? Also, do you think that some certifications are important? ie/ Google data analytics, etc.?
Hey Javier, definitely networking will help you a ton to land that interview. I personally think certifications aren’t as strong as a portfolio on your resume.
I, too, did my bachelors in computer science and am currently working as a data analyst! Seeing a lot of computer science peers pursuing software development and (on average) making more money makes me wonder if I should be programming too. Have you had similar thoughts?
Hey Allan, yea for sure I definitely had those thoughts. I even did a bit of leetcode and programming last December but then I realized I still had a lot to learn in my current role. So maybe in the future, the door is always open.
Hello Justin. Thank you for this video as it gave me the information I needed in becoming a data analyst. Still need some help though. I am a Customer Service agent and I also have a legal and history background. How can I utilize these skills so I can not only become a successful analyst but stay ahead in the field? Thank you!
Does anyone else refuse to network? Just seems like a bunch of small talk and favor for favor talk… like kissing someone’s ass. I know it’ll help to open doors etc but honestly I much rather open them myself instead of spending time with people that k don’t enjoy or simply to get my “name out there”.
Great video and advice! I am changing careers with no previous experience. I have undergraduate degree in Business Administration, experience in Excel. Should I enroll in Google Certificate and delay graduate school? I have been accepted into a graduate program Strategic Leadership Business Analytics masters degree. I was thinking the Google Certificate might be faster. Thank You for any advice.
New subscriber from India. Love your video. Just wondering how much are you making? Not specifically but atleast describes in the range, to get a real idea.
Hey Justin ! Quick question if i do a Data analytics courses (to get a certificate) and (Power BI, Tableu, SQL,Excel Courses) would i be able to get a job ? or i need a degree ? Love the video :)
Gotta work on projects and make a portfolio. Leverage your connections to land interviews if you can. Market right now is too saturated with boot camp grads and self taught DAs
Do you know anyone with a business degree and a Google data analytics certificate in your team or your network? I have a degree, been working customer service and currently take the certificate course. I wana know if it's viable. Just subscribed and will follow you 😊
Hi Eliza, thanks for watching and for the sub! So I’m not sure about the google data analytics certificate but I do know a lot of people who have business degrees and have transferred over to IT/analytics. The certificate is definitely viable but you definitely want to supplement that with projects to showcase your skills in order to validate the certificate you’re gonna earn!
Personally for me I wouldn’t spend too much investing in degrees. All of the resources are here on RUclips and online. But if it gives you peace of mind then I’d say go for the masters!

Do you think it’ll be harder to get hired in 2023 as opposed to in previous years, especially when considering the current state of the economy?
Yea this market is tough

Thank you for the helpful tips. What are your thoughts on attending a Data analytics bootcamp ?
I think if you can afford it, I see it as an advantage. Other than that definitely try to do work on your projects to showcase you skills.
