I’ll add that a step into a data field job is huge. I took a data analyst position with a bank when I had little skills 1 year ago making 50k. I just accepted a new position at a different bank as a model risk analyst (will be using lots of the same skills, analyzing, testing, visualizations, etc) making 85k paid hourly, full time work from home. Short answer: BA - need MORE domain knowledge & soft skills (user reqs, project mgmt) DA - MORE technical skills (Excel, PBI, SQL, maybe Python) and work with domain knowledge expert, just in case. BOTH - curiosity, problem solving (ask right questions, logical thinking, ...), and continuous learning. BEST OF BOTH - ENJOY WHAT YOU DO

It actually depends on the company, there are many companies that give the designation of Business Analyst but the role needs all the technical skills as in a Data Analyst.
As a BA, I'm quickly learning that I have write a lot of documents moreso than visualizations. Like it's 1AM right now, I'm writing a document vendor comparisons. Some salary transparency: (Silicon Valley, CA) BA: 72k starting, 3months - 80k, 6months - 106k. Probably will stay here for a while until I have my own team. I'm less than a year in. My Fiancé is works at a Tech Company as a Project Analyst in PMO (Another type of BA): 85k starting, after 1yr - 100K, 2yr -110K, 3rd - 120K, 4yr - 140K. There were some title promotions and other COMPs given to her.
I work as a business analyst at a bank but my day to day responsibilities are more of that of a data analyst. I also enjoy the technical side of things and think I lean more towards the data analysis role

When you talk about having your SQL script then going into Power BI or Tableau what is your preferred method of importing data with your SQL script? Are you converting the SQL script to a different file then importing, importing an Excel file into Power BI, or is PowerBI directly connected to your database?
thanks for this overview. There is a lot of confusion around these roles, and I (a BA) often get requests that I have to pass on to the DA and vice versa. As a BA, I often use DA skills to analyse requirements, and a good DA needs to borrow heavily from the BA toolkit when helping a client understand their requirements for a dashboard or report, so there is a lot of overlap.

About a week ago i started the Google analytics certificate... I'm digging it so far, however, I'm a lil overwhelmed but I'll keep at it. Currently taking the course as well. Honestly I’ve seen a lot of internship/apprenticeship opportunities BUT they all require you to have background knowledge (which I think is what this course is about). Since you’re a hands on person I would look up some internships and instead of applying online reach out to them first, maybe by phone or email and sell yourself to them and see if they’ll take a chance on you. The worse you can hear is no and you just move on to the next possible internship opportunity. I saw opportunities on Handshake and Indeed. Hope this helps 😊
Yea experience is definitely required. But another way to show you have the experience is building out a portfolio filled with projects. That’s how boot camps work too.
I've heard a Project Management degree may help, and maybe having a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, maybe Statistics, and/or a Computer Science degree may help beef up your Resume.

Business Analyst internships are pretty rare to find, I’m currently a Business Analyst Apprentice, but I would definitely recommend doing a Data Analyst internship. Business Analysts and Data Analysts have a lot of transferable skills so if you do one you can do another

So in most companies a business analyst and business analytics are diffrent. Since the BA fills in a role thats between the stakeholder and engineering team its good to understand software development in general. But some main skills will be requirement gathering , breaking requirements into user stories (agile development lifecycle), technical documentation, sprint planning, ect. Some companies may request you to also do data analytics but that depends.
