Although very often used for the same, the BI focus on descriptive analysis, while BA are more about predictive analysis. super interesting! not sure if this is a spotify thing, but our projects are generally super collaborative and teams rarely work in silo. so I’d come up with my insights first, present it to the team who requested it, they will come with the specific 'tactics', then we build out the strategy together bc I'd also need to evaluate the results of the strategy down the line. there is a edge case though - there are times when an insight we see relates to multiple teams and becomes a cross-functional project. in that case, I'd have to be the one that gather every team's 'tactics' and collectively build a 'strategy' with them together. the weighing on how much analysis vs strategy depends on the company and your specific team's place in the org

In my 4 years experience as a BA, we never had to look into the business insights. What we, the BAs are required to do is to analyze the app/website we are working with and talk to customers and look into how to make it better for them (develop more features, take out some features, improve the user experience etc.). Then after analyzing that and taking the decision to, for example, add another feature that the customers need, we analyze how to make the best of that feature, how it should look, how it should work etc. But, most probably, we are Business Analysts in different departments in our companies xD

Lillian! U really save me!! recently I have been struggling with what I should prepare to get a consulting job or become a business analyst. this video inspires me a lot
Very interesting. I am a Business Analyst, but I am trying to broaden my skill set. I actually have never done anything that is mentioned in this video. My role revolves around project management and business requirements, so I have been learning a lot of technical skills related to that end of the spectrum (API documentation, plantUML, etc.) I hope that I can eventually get into data as well. Such an interesting job!
The core responsibility of Business Analysts varies widely depending on industry and company. I constantly try to think from the perspective of job descriptions instead of focusing on job titles.
agreed! BAs roles & responsibilities vary depending on the industry, company, and team! love that u focus more on proj mang. i started doing more strategy work this year and realized proj mang is such a skill….🥹i do think regardless of what ur focus is, BA skills are super transferable to any job down the line which is what i love! (although the hard part is figuring out what path to go for hahaha…
@@LillianChiu101 For sure! It is really, dare I say, fun! Previously, I was a Technical Writer but during a big round of expansion, they wanted me to move to the BA position (Although I still handle a fair amount of my previous duties. Small company afterall). I have been spending time in and outside of work developing my knowledge and skills to excel in my role. Last week my manager informed me that I have surpassed expectations and that he and his superiors are grooming me to become either a lead BA or a Project Manager sometime next year. What I love about working in IT is, in my experience, they do not immediately discount you for not having the right educational background. I have a BA and MA in History which I successfully leveraged for the Technical Writing role due to my experience as a researcher and writer. However, with hard work, I have proven myself to be capable of learning new technology and technical skills at a rapid pace. For example, as a side project, I managed to become a Salesforce Admin for our org in a few months of self-learning, so I have also picked up that hat. To anyone else, don't hesitate to explore tech. My brother with a GED is now a Program Manager with a 3rd party vendor group and has worked on Google projects his whole career thus far. Started out in tech support and worked his way up in just six years. He picked up technical knowledge along the way like I have. Now he manages Google Cloud resources for Google's massive clients. With hard work and a dose of luck, you too can find success and happiness.

So well made video, very clear explanation and You made me realise my management engineering program really push on such skills. I dont feel completely ready for an interview like this but my sql and excel is there. The rest I don’t really know. Thanks for the video really inspiring!!
thank you Richard! best of luck on your management eng, program! love that you have the technical skills already, the problem solving+strategic thinking part took me a while too, it was like training a muscle that I didn't have lol but watching mock interviews was helpful, another one was becoming an 'active listener' in my day to day and hear how people lay out thoughts logically. as an funny(& silly) example, I went to the dentist because I had toothache, and he full on did a 'root cause analysis' on me by first asking what my symptoms were, based on that listed out some potential causes (which then he proved out with xrays), from there laid out some treatment plans, and with each plan he explained the cost/trade-offs. I think my aha moment was seeing through all the logics that exist in my everyday life and adapting that mindset at work too.
This video is so organized and informative! I can tell from the way your present these information that you must be a very methodical person✨ Look forward to your future videos! Support from Taiwan🙌

One of the best analytical videos, great job Lillian!
Video is summarised with supporting examples, ideas is categorised, such an informative video! Love it
Role playing as a CEO always helps. I call it the ‘IMP approach’ - it’s my problem
so clear!! I'm starting a reflecting on where I want my career path to head towards and this position was suggested based on what I am passionate about. the real-life examples really help. U ARE AMAAZIING. thank you so much
I found this video super helpful even though I am outside the field of data analysis. These skills are applicable to every field! Thanks for sharing.
This is one of the best and more practical videos I’ve seen on the subject. Thanks so much!
As a marketing analytics student, I rly need this rn.Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks Lillian - this is one of the best case studies content have seen. It was quite helpful.
Lillian! U really save me!! recently I have been struggling with what I should prepare to get a consulting job or become a business analyst. this video inspires me a lot
This is like one of the coolest videos I've watched in months!! Extremely valuable!
@@LillianChiu101 This is such an informative content, really helpful insight!! I'm really curious about how good ones math needs to be to deal with all the data/analytic work? And were most of the BA study in Business analytics specifically or better be broadly like data science? I'm consider to do a degree to transfer to this career path, but confused with so many courses...
This was probably one of the best video I have come across on RUclips. So informative and well explained, leant so much. Thank you
This is the best channel I've ever come across 💕 tysm for all the valuable info and tutorials that you give
This is so helpful!! I’ve just graduated and going into BA, you’re one of my idols!!
Every project is unique but one thing for sure, Business Analysts wear a lot of hats. :)
You're amazing! I have been sitting on the fence about becoming a BA but through your passionate and style of explanations I found my interest definitely lies here. Thanks 👍🏾
Hi Lillian, Thanks for sharing!! This video is super helpful in terms of understanding the essentials of business analysis. I wish I could’ve seen this video sooner before my BA interview. Really appreciated!!
Thank you, Lillian for this really insightful video. You really explained the business analysis role in a way that makes it so much less daunting.

This video was extremely useful! It is the first time I see someone give real-world examples and then links for additional resources. Thank you so much! I would love to see more of these!
This is probably the best BA video I've seen of all time.

thank you Kelly!! best of luck in your career transition!
this was extremely insightful and very well-rounded video, the case study example helped a lot as well in understanding the skills
I would be a business analyst but having a heart/soul really gets in the way of the pure profit-grinding mindset of attempting to perfectly extract every single cent from customers.
Starting as a BA in October. I've read a few books concerning user stories/ story mapping. I am enrolled in Cs50 (won't be able to finish this before I start) and hopefully finish a SQL course before I start.
Thanks for the insights, I appreciate it
Hey how has your experience as a BA been so far?
@@titomassaly2391 Pretty good, I've had the opportunity to finish multiple relevant courses and did some work outside of that. I will start on a project soon as well so I'm looking forward to it. Do you plan on becoming a BA?
I'm in 10th grade and i see BA as a future occupational choice. Although I'm completely lost on the path i should follow for this, could you help me?
@@prav2568 The ideal combination IMO is IT or a quantitative study combined with a business related study. What I did was follow a business related course and then got IT certificates. Try to score student jobs and internships as a BA. The easiest path to be a BA is to follow a IT course and develop soft skills. Then you'll certainly get the job.
I really appreciate your video and how you went into details when solving these problems. It really teaches me how to think as a data analyst. Please have more of these videos with detailed answers and practices like this. Thankyou!!!!
thank you so much Minh! more to come!
It's a very informative video learning more about the strategy analysis and how to think from BA on helping the company. Thanks for sharing! it's super useful!
Best video I've seen on this topic yet! Thank you!
How am I just discovering your channel now? This is amazing!

Hi Lillian, thank you for making this so digestible! Always look forward to your videos :)
Thank you very much, the problem solving part is truly helpful, even though I am a Economics student and I am not pursuit any job in Tech related but it also help me to reorganize my flow of brainstorming too :D
This is a super great video! Been watching a lot of analyst videos recently and this is the only one that went into the bigger thought process and effective strategies for communicating! Thank you for posting this!
What a fantastic video! Really went through the basics and provided links to external sources to help shore up skills. Invaluable and practical advice. Subbed and keep it up!
You just helped me solidify my choice to develop as a BA. I am a Corporate Strategy Analyst and involved in so many things. And the company is pushing towards developing Data scientists and analysts. I just didn't feel it was right. Then I came to understand there is something called BA (my own role lol). I decided to look more into the path and came across your video.
It is just what I needed =)

Hi Lillian, thank you so much for spending time making such an useful video for us, I was very ambiguous and in the midst of looking for my way, however, I found out that BA is interesting after watching your video and will spend more time researching the position. Thank you so much from the deepest of my heart! Hope that I can land a job in this area
Thanks Lillian for these advices, I'm an IT business analyst, and I've learned from your video.

Hey Lillian, thanks for the great video. I have a few data analyst interviews coming up and your video is really helpful!
thanks taylor - hope your interview went well!!
@@LillianChiu101 I wish you are my mentor :))
