@@julienpuertas9253 let me tell you something from my actual experience. I went to a boot-camp to learn web development for 1 year and after we finished they put us in a program for job coaching which was absolutely waste of time the coach didn't know any technical skills He used to show up every time giving us a very generic information that I could have got simply from RUclips which what he was doing by the way he used to send us RUclips mock-up interviews and it was not that relevant because as a web developer you have to go through also technical interviews and we all lacked this part as students like we didn't know what to expect and didn't get any training regarding this. Now moving to the other issue when we applied to companies as junior web developers not all the companies but the majority of the companies were requesting to have a degree in computer science and every time I used to apply I used to get rejected, telling me that they have found someone more suitable which is of course someone with a degree will have a priority over someone who hasn't. Coming to a conclusion at the end I wish I would have self-taught myself and saved a lot of money and time.
Watching this video has helped me to clear my fears as a newbie in the Data Analytics world. I am in my 4th week of learning from an online platform and we are through with Excel now on Power BI. Following your roadmap to the letter will suit me. Thanks for the video.
So you started AFTER obtaining a master's in computer science. That puts you extremely far ahead of most people. What would be good to know prior to starting to learn Python?
Hi! This is great! I am currently in the midst of changing career after 10+years in it. Currently trying to teach myself on an online platform while doing my full-time job. However, the path seems arduous since both are time-intensive. I was contemplating an online school with job placement, since it seems like the best & fastest way to get me in the field, esp with a steep learning curve. I was also getting disheartened as I keep seeing a mixture of jobs ads to get a feel of what employers are looking out for- most requesting for those with Bachelors/Masters in Computer Sci, etc with others requesting experience with relevant doable certifications. Thanks for your clear direction & insights! Cldn't come at a better time...
Glad you liked it! It's tough to juggle a career change with a full-time job. Around 90% of our career changers are balancing employment and their career change, so we're pretty accustomed to this. So if you're looking for that online school with job placement, we certainly might be able to help you out. I’m currently in a university with a DANL concentration and every year there is a private event where recruiters come and hire us for internships so although I disagree with your take on not going to a university, it really differs depending on everyone’s situation & journey, which is the beauty of succeeding. But most importantly, if you want it bad enough, it’s yours.

as far as an interest in math or a mastery; having a strong command of symbolic logic, the formal rules of login, will take you far in any discipline, especially data analysis
Although I have a degree in computer science and engineering, I work as a 3D animator (That I learned because of my fascination with the CG Industry). I will soon be relocating to New York and I want to pursue a career in data science, thus starting a profession as a data analyst will be gratifying for me. I am studying alone and plan to enroll in a CareerFoundry boot camp. The thing that worries me the most is that because I lack past work experience, I might have a difficult time landing my first job. Although I think I pick things up quickly and have a great career ahead.
I have been doing a ton of research and what I can tell is build that port and build it quickly. Doing free-lance and bro bono work (lol). Once you have 5-10 projects that you have built then incorporate that into a portfolio to present in the interviews

I just recently graduated with a degree in Marketing. Few months into my first job, I realised I’ve no interest in what i’m currently doing and with a salary of $2.5 SGD, I hate my life right now. Your thumbnail is about data analyst, but your title is data analytics. As per my understanding there is a bold differences between data analysis, data analytics, data science, and BI intelligence.
Waiting for the day someone will give me a chance to actually jump into the pool and start working. I've been applying for 11 months to hundreds of companies, and got about 2 dozen interviews, but no offers.
How many projects have you completed into an online portfolio? My guess is you might want to brush up on the interview because I have seen many interviews and the questions they ask are freakin hard...explaining the logic of SQL and reports....
Thank you so much. A month ago I applied as a product analyst once I was awarded my business degree. I was royally rejected. I did not have the technical skills and was considering a masters degree. This really helps!

I have never heard of this! Makes sense that this could work for me since I am paying minimum payments and using cash for so many things that could be put on CC.
Personally, I prefer learning in a physical classroom where I can freely interact with the instructors and classmates as I have almost zero knowledge on programming languages (which can be complicated to learn some times).
Thank you for all your insights! I appreciate your vulnerability and honesty - as a person stepping into this new field, I have many questions and doubts, but watching your video motivates me to go for it. Good luck!
I am a recent graduate in Computer Science and want to instead go into Data Science instead of the traditional Software Developer/ Software Engineer career. So as someone like me who eventually one day wants to work in data science industry, is there an entry level job role that one can apply as a starting point and just get promoted/ level up to a data science in time rather than just trying to apply for a data science position from the get go? I dont mind starting at the bottom and working my way up the ladder.
What a great information with details about data analysis. I am 37yeara old from non IT sector and i really want to learn and become data analysis but i have doubt about something and i also asked this to so many people on RUclips and now i am asking you. My question is - at this age still i can get a job in IT sector like data analysis? Do i really need to learn coding for it? One of institute told me that i only need to learn power BI for data analysist and that's it I'll become data analysist, it this true? It's my dream to work in Germany by the end of next year... Plz reply me with something very useful words....
1. you do not need to know coding for Data analysis(DA). 2. Power BI is a must have since its one of the major drivers for DA. 3. Networking will work in favour in terms of job hunting, or build a portfolio showcasing your talent when marketing. It is 100% possible to venture into the IT sector. Also top your skills with Databases certification. I am from South Africa and opportunities are wider in the west as opposed to Africa. Do not limit yoursef. Thats my 2 cents opinion
I think you should try and join online interest groups. You will learn from others and people in the interest group will get to know you. You might have a comfortable situation, when you are going for an interview, the interviewer/s will already know you! Start your own project, such as analytics on your favorite sports team/league, and discuss the difficulties you encounter on your project, asking for ideas. If you could get to an interest group where you plan to work, that would be good.
Is anyone out there on the spectrum?
Hie if you don't mind me asking, which online platform are you using to learn I also want to study the same. Thank you
So you started AFTER obtaining a master's in computer science. That puts you extremely far ahead of most people. What would be good to know prior to starting to learn Python?
That in 10 years python might be obsolete so don't limit yourself to one software
Feel free to reach out for a chat; careerfoundry.com/en/connect/data-analytics-program-contact-advisor/ And if it's not to be, we wish you all the best for your career change. You'll make it!
@@careerfoundry is a bachelors in business data analytics worth it ( the program has machine learning business finance and a programming course aswell )or is something general like Econ or Computers better ? I wanna do a masters afterwards most probably in Computer science or IT is it possible after this bachelor's program there's also the social pressure to be a "graduate" and the university is 143 at Asian QS ranking not that expensive but it's a new program
I appreciate your take on this! I can’t afford schooling and it’s just good to know that there are resources that can still help me get a good job. So thank you so much!!
So how did it go 6 months later? I'm just now starting.
Almost done with my google data analytics course and it’s been interesting and empowering
How are you finding this course? Thinking of starting it myself. How long did the course take you?

Best of luck Alice, we have a bunch of resources and programs available too - careerfoundry.com/en/courses/become-a-data-analyst/
How was the course. I'm about to get started in data analytics
Only video I need to watch to get started with data analytics
I dont have choice but to subscribe to this channel even as a student of CF in Australia
Thank you so much for this awesome video. I have started a master degree in Data Science and completed one tutorial of CareerFoundry. Amazing content, very useful. I totally recommend.
I'm looking for a direction where to go, I like working with data, so this got me encouraged. I looked around on Indeed and I can't believe that a junior position only offers £25-30k pa. gross.
(FYI, an unskilled minimum wage job gets you £20k in the UK in 2023.)
Awesome, I am a Service Manager and would be studying data analytics this year to improve my analytical skills
This video can be incredible useful for anyone in tech industry and not only in the Data Analytics field. Thank the author for such clear and useful coaching!
So many resources out there however getting some direction from university or experienced instructors helps so much. I know the author here does not agree with university but it can help open doors for certain jobs. My tip would be to make sure you can explain your analysis to someone with no data background
So much information! It's helping me get over my Imposter Syndrome. Because I know most of these things and I really just need to get started and apply.
Have you finally started
Thanks for your great video. Don't know how many times I've started, stopped, started again before realising I haven't really sat down and considered a lot of what you talk about here! Spot on and great advice for this middle aged fella looking to finally move into a field he has long been interested in!
Thank you.. I'm currently finishing my degree in Mathematics, my desire is to pursue this.. I'm not sure if it's gonna be of much use in Botswana.. But I believe it will as the economy grows
I cannot stress enough how important is to choose a field of liking to do your learning projects. It will greatly help you!
I easily get bored watching this type of videos, but really Tom, I genuinely interested in how you brought all of this to our plate, great video! thank you for the all of the insights!
Would you mind disclosing what university you attended?
Thank you, this is very helpful! I am a highschool student considering to try in this field, so I have been searching for information related to data analysts. Perhaps I can learn something before I even go to university! Thank you so much for all the experience and resources you shared again!
Hey I’m just starting off today and I feel excited to start the process.
as far as an interest in math or a mastery; having a strong command of symbolic logic, the formal rules of login, will take you far in any discipline, especially data analysis
I’m 19 trying it because I got a lot of free time while in college and trying to make more money than my current part time job
I'm looking into data analytics and this video explained so much, thanks Tom!
You're welcome, glad it was helpful!
Once you have 5-10 projects that you have built then incorporate that into a portfolio to present in the interviews
is a bachelors in business data analytics worth it ( the program has machine learning business finance and a programming course aswell )or is something general like Econ or Computers better ? I wanna do a masters afterwards most probably in Computer science or IT
Choose Courseera , it has standard curriculum from reputed Organizations , they have a good study plan. And also provide certification and capstone project.
I just recently graduated with a degree in Marketing. Few months into my first job, I realised I’ve no interest in what i’m currently doing and with a salary of $2.5 SGD, I hate my life right now.
At the age of 26 right now, I’m considering learning Data Analytics as a specialisation. But I’ve no knowledge of any coding languages nor am I good in math.
Wish me luck guys, I feel really lost in life right now.
Hey, I'm in similar shoes as you. Currently 26, trying to go into data analytics. But somehow is just so hard..
Any update bro? how is it going
Your thumbnail is about data analyst, but your title is data analytics.
As per my understanding there is a bold differences between data analysis, data analytics, data science, and BI intelligence.
What's the difference between data analysis and data analytics
Thank you. After learning javascript for 4 months, I was able to study data analysis within Two weeks.
Thank you for this informational video!
6:57 is what you are looking for
This video gave me lots of confidence. So comprehensive and goal-oriented. Thank you!
Maybe go wgu for the analytics degree it’ll probably help get your foot in the door
Thank you so much. A month ago I applied as a product analyst once I was awarded my business degree. I was royally rejected. I did not have the technical skills and was considering a masters degree. This really helps!

So valuable, thanks Tom! Make more videos on data analytics please!!
Thanks! Stay tuned for more videos on data analytics in the coming weeks!
The having the confidence Part is where I have a lot of problem with. I have no idea where to start out and want to learn more
Definitely a great video, especially that LEAN, MINIMAL ROADMAP is really easy to understand, really appreciate that.
Thank you, this video provides the foundation to be a expert as Data Analyst.
Thank you so much, dude. You are the best of them all. You literally took me by the hand and took me on a fascinating tour around the beautiful world of data analysis. I wish you could be my personal coach. With you, I'm sure to hit my goal of becoming a skillful data analyst- just like you.
I have never heard of this! Makes sense that this could work for me since I am paying minimum payments and using cash for so many things that could be put on CC.
9:50 How do you start in a field without any prior coursework? Most internships have a lot of prerequisites.
Great presentation! You make Data Analytics less intimidating. 💗
Thank you so much, with your video you answered most of my questions on the subject and even gave me material where to start from🙏
Awsome content brother.....Honest,& Clear strategy......respect from Bangalore.....
As someone just getting into this field, this is wonderful information!
Thanks so much! Glad you found the video helpful - stay tuned for more valuable videos on data analytics just like this!
Amazing video, great advice. Thank you!
It is a very helpful video for a begginer programmist as I am Thank you
I literally don’t know any of this. Well excel ik. But I’ll just apply and if I get a job I’ll just learn on the job. “Learn as I earn”
Hi. Thanks for the plug into the free course. There are security issues though, where my browser alerts me that the connection is not private.
Proper guidance from this community ❤
@@phephisilemahlalela6213 not 2 cent😎
Worth for millions to me.
You maanged to make a very technical topic sound simple. Im floored.
Hey Chevaughn, that's very kind of you to say, thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thank you so much Tom!! Love the content. Thank you careerfoundry. Please keep maving many more such valuable and informative videos.
You're welcome! Stay tuned, there are a lot more videos like this planned in the near future!
Is anyone out there on the spectrum? I have an aspergic, dyslexic son who is highly accomplished in gaming reaching high levels very quickly, he is also an accomplished artist, managed to get 5 GCSE's and two BTec level threes, went to uni to do a degree in game design in lock down (which was a disaster) and is only now just rebuilding confidence and is interested in Data analytics. He has completed an SQL course. recommendations please
With aspergers comes hyper focus so if they gen interested then all good..but when it comes to writing code in Python etc then dyslexia might be an issue
Hi, I am curious about which learning you recommend to get the "Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate" or code academy "Business Intelligence Data Analyst".
This video was so insightful as I’m researching to pivot into this field! Thank you!!
No pun intended right? 🤪
thank you for this informative video! I see a lot of people mention their age; I have an announcement age has nothing to do with learning invest a tidbit of knowledge every day, you are your biggest investment!
Just the video I needed to see! Thank you so much for your well-defined, informative video☺️!

Which courses are good to cover for data analyst on datacamp? Is it good to cover up the courses on datacamp?
Datacamp's definitely a great product for practising your coding skills; particularly the modules on SQL are a big help.
