HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 июл 2024
- I compare both the MK7 Golf R and the MK7.5 Golf R to explain the differences as a result of the facelift. Please note that these are only the main differences; deep down the MK7.5 benefits from multiple upgrades/changes compared to the MK7. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the video and find it informative!

Ever since I bought my MK7.5 Golf R, I've been inundated with questions asking what the differences are between the MK7.5 & MK7. Please note that, like I mentioned in the video, this video only contains the main differences. Regardless, I hope you enjoy the video and find it informative! :-)
Great video love your GOLF R
Thanks so much Hamzah!
@@hampshirephoto No worries 👌🇧🇪
Your Golf R honestly is a dream can you please do a running cost video like how much a tank is how long last you and stuff like that please really interested
I think really to summerise, it's the extra gear with the DSG which is the major difference, slightly more power and torque, the digital dashboard, and LED headlights. Everything else is the same.
It’s funny how the dude is just on standby outside waiting for you to finish using him for the video
you donno , maybe there is a deal between under the table , I guess business is business 😁
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@PSKHIS34 He's just jealous over the cars this video's host (hampshirephoto) owns. So he has to throw in some kind of class-envy/class-warfare, socialist whiner comment.
I may be in a minority, but i prefer the analog guages.
lukasz lawrynowicz same here, the screen in the mk7.5’s will most likely break or have dead pixels in the future and cost a bunch to fix.
I've always preferred analogue gauges it makes the interior rather than a blank black screen while the car is parked.
Yeah I like analog better as well
dlroto not really an issue when majority of these are on 3-4 year finance deals
2019 Mk7.5 R owner here and I prefer the analogue guages too, especially at night, The digital dash is just too bright and garish. The old dials just look much nicer to me (very subjective of course)
I’m genuinely in love with the 7.5, someday I’ll have it!
Amen
Just buy the 7. It's the saaaaaame
@@alfmarajo9634 The digital cluster and touchscreen is waaaaaay better tho plus the design is better lol
It's a lot more attainable than some other dream cars. Dw, it is very possible
@@Random63R400 I actually prefer the analog cluster way more than the digital cluster.
Prefer the 7.5 interior but have to say prefer the aesthetics of the 7.
There's one main reason for that. You can buy a cooking version Golf and spec an 'R-Design' kit for it. The R-Design bumpers look almost identical to the R. So many times I've mistaken, at a distance, a basic Golf 7.5 with an R-Design kit for an actual R. It's demeaned the proper MK7.5 R.
yeah, and that is called "R-line" trim
Great vid mate. This will do well 👏
Thanks mate! Lets hope so :D
You think moving the climate controls to a 'touch screen' is an upgrade??
it is a downgrade...
Mad downgrade
This comment perfectly highlights the biggest flaw of the MK8 R...
Defo a downgrade
Quality of your videos are just sick, both cars are a dream cars, im just impressed how good they look and how great this video was, you deserve so much more. Keep up the great work. Subbed 😄
Thank you so much! :D
Love the video, new subscriber and fellow 7.5 owner, regardless of the changes between the 7 and 7.5 I am sure we can all agree that the Golf R is a pretty superb car, and I don't feel left out when driving alongside RS's,M's and AMG's
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the comparison! 👍
More differences to the MK 7.0:
-smaller rear mirror
-memory driver seat with electric seats
-+10 HP and +20NM torque (no OPF)
-LED headlights
-updated multimedia software
Must say as a 2014 Mk7 R owner I found this video very interesting. One thing to add to the changes between the cars is the location of the ACC sensor. On the Mk7 it is located in the plastic panel below the grill, on the 7.5 it is hidden behind the VW badge on the bonnet. Personally speaking the styling of the 7.5 is just that bit sharper than its predecessor and the digital dash is most impressive.
Hello, just recently just started following the channel! Enjoying it so far.
Just to say I've got a 3 door 7.5 with a manual so you can still buy them. It is indeed engaging!
Res delete booked for March too.
Thank you very much for the comparaison I’m deciding to get the 7.5 R from long time a go and this video just inspired me and gave me good idea about the car i have the 7.5 R line diesel atm
I’d definitely go for that manual 3 door combination, looks great and I’m sure drives great too. I love the facelift, but weirdly I think I might be the minority here but I think I prefer the 7!
It did look cool!
hampshirephoto I think the good thing about Golfs is they’ll always look cool. Even the older ones you see, that are in clean condition still look great. They seem too age very well
For sure!
Dan L your bad words
Dan L True! I just wish they’d update their Coolant system. Many have had issues with leaking and it’s probably because of the material used.
Great comparison, thank you! I recently took possession of a 2018 MK 7.5 and was curious to know what was differences were other than a digi cockpit and front end design. Cheers!
Thanks so much! Glad you found it useful
Thanks for your videos, very helpful, just bought mine yesterday (19 plate), waiting for collection now. Also had my list of must have's inc pretoria alloys and DSG
Thanks for the kind words! Congrats!!
literally trashing geeza's interior while he stands outside
Surely my dream car...
Really, out of all cars obtainable or not, your favourite car is an S3 powered golf?
Good news... with a minimum wage job and slightly ok credit you can get one
Live you’re dreams man, live your dreams
@@robertburton8055 lol
@mystik star
For a 2012 model maybe.... I mean they are pretty obtainable and hardly something I’d classify as a dream car but the low mileage 16s and up are atleast $35k for one that hasn’t been in a wreck.
@@robertburton8055 I’ve seen 2017s for 15k all around me. Where do you live?
Great video. Thanks for info. Just waiting for delivery of my 69 plate golf r estate. Do you have a video//link of the mods you’ve put on your car please?
Thank god you made this vid, I'm deciding between the two!
Haha no problem :)
Same! 2016 or 2018, here in the Canaduh.
Great comparison video
Thanks!
Quick question, I have a USDM 2019 GOLF R and a mudflap hit my front emblem and now it's cracked. I looked closely and I need to replace the emblem. The problem is the emblem is different than other GOLFs.. I noticed that in most volkswagens the emblem is exposed and you can just pop it off with a screwdriver. On my 2019 Golf R the front emblem appears to be protected by a thing plastic dome. Do you know if that dome just clips in as well? On the video it looks like your emblem is also covered by a dome. Can you check please?-
I have the mk7.5 GTI and the car displayed on dash and entertainment screen is the GTI. I find it odd that they didn’t use the R on the R. Great video by the way
Really annoying!! Thanks :)
There are AC controls on the screen if you go to that screen, well they do on the larger screen. You also find the heated windscreen there if you spec'ed that as an option
Kohan Rebeiro ah interesting, thanks for clarifying
I’m pretty sure you get that on the 7 too, just by pressing the menu button on the AC control panel.
For the Mk7.5, wondering if the rear view camera now actually functions when you select reverse?
Where did you get your paddle shifters?
Do you have the Oettinger kit? I’m guessing not however I was wondering the sound difference of 7.5 with and without oettinger exhaust.
Personaly the rear lights on a mk7 do look better then a 7.5 imo.
#hampshirephoto these video on the golf R are helping me out a lot I am thinking about getting one but in two minds on selling my focus ST to get one or just buy one then have them both
Great video, we have matching cars! One question, why is your car without push button and electric seats? In Canada, we get full electric seats and push button/keyless entry as standard. Is that a characteristic of UK Golf R’s? Or is it just the spec of your car? Cheers
r the bonnets the same? i need a new bonnet i can get a 7 my car is 7.5?
Well im looking for this.. Thanks bro
Where did you get the chrome trim wrapped and how much? I’m thinking of wrapping all chrome on my car.
I wrapped it myself - here's the link: amzn.to/2AcAX5W
Great video keep up the good work 👌🏻👊🏻🔥 💯
Thanks so much man!!
Thank you for posting this video! I’ve got a 2019 Golf R, and have been wondering about the differences between the MK7 and MK7.5. I live in one of the largest cities in the US (really pisses me off that ours only get 288 bhp instead of 306, but my stage 1 tune fixed that) and these cars are exceedingly rare- to such a degree that in the last year since I’ve owned this car, I’ve only seen 2 others- an MK7 and a MK7.5. I noticed a few differences when I saw the MK7, but it’s hard to really see them unless you’ve got them side by side. Either way, I am so glad I was able to get my hands on an MK7.5.
These are super popular in Chicago, at my job which is a Jeep dealer there are 4 lol
in south africa, you cant miss one within 10 minute period
thanks, helpful video
Great video,
What year did the 7.5 start?
Cheers
Getting my 7.5 r Monday, should have been today but the garage running behind...can't wait
Cool Video Man. One other thing that was important to me, is that the Proximity Sensor is behind the front badge in the 7.5 and cut out in the grill on the 7. Looks way better not having that cut out IMO.
Good point, thanks for raising
What reg year is your 7.5? great video
crazy how much better the facelift looks with a few changes
Good video lads
Rear bumper and fenders are also different. I found out the bit about the fenders when I was looking into swapping 7.5 headlights to the 7
been looking at buying a golf r but I would like one with the Akrapovic exhaust if poss, but there so hard to find, does anyone know of any websites or places to find them??
my perfect spec would be: the MK7.5 with the upgraded center console and infotainment system, a manual box and the analog dials of the MK7 :)
Hey I rlly like ur golf r I would like to know if it’s tuned like more horsepower? And I would like to know also does it affect the warranty in case if I delete the resonator ? Thank you very much
Thanks a lot! It's not tuned no. Deleting the resonator will only invalidate the exhaust's warranty, not the whole warranty
What oil temp is your car on during a normal drive on a sunny day?
nice video as always
Thanks buddy!
@@hampshirephoto
thanks for the reply
Luke please reply!!!!! what year did they introduce the face lifts from mate
Im a few years late but late 2017 for mk7.5
Can you compare 2 non R Golfs, like 2 highlines MK7?
Enjoyed your video, Luke, good job as always. Looking to upgrade my Mk 7 GTI to a Mk 7.5 R before the Mk 8 R comes out in 2022 here in Canada. I suspect the MK 8 R will have the same switcheroo to full digital-touch-everything and dispense with proper knobs, as VW has unfortunately done to the Mk 8 GTI. Has anyone commented on the folding mirrors in your comparison? The Mk 7's are manually folding whereas the Mk 7.5's are automatically folding when you kill the engine. I think that's worth mentioning here and a nice upgrade. Keep up the good work, Luke. Cheers!
Is your 7.5 a 2018? Any idea how much they would be to buy now?
Think the MK7 PFL looks so much better with the manual 😍. Especially in three door, but with Pretoria wheels instead.
Top quality content
Thanks!
Is there any difference in engines ? I knows dsg is but what about internals and block ?
is a golf r facelift under something else or does it fall under golf r when you search it up on auto trader?
What about the original
Spoiler is it curved from
Front for mk7.5 before u put ur lip on
I would just like to know do they do a R in the Polo and is it a 4 door and what I would like to see or I would like to own a R32 Polo
Where did u get those shift paddles from?
Thanks for the video guys, really informative! I'm picking up a 2017 7.5 tomorrow with 10,000 recorded miles and a manual 'box, can't wait
Manual trash mate dsg wayyy better and quicker
The 18’’ cadiz wheels are too small, strange that the Scirocco got 19’’ cadiz. The 19’’ optional Golf R wheels really make a big difference.
The Golf really misses out on not having wingbacks as an option though
There were a few minor things dropped on the Mk7.5. The MK7 has: Carpeted spare tire well
Sunroof and other head buttons light up at night
Drawer under driver seat
AC vent inside glove box
I prefer the look of the older car. Love the standard 18s and also the analogue dials! Other than that the newer car is better in every way to be fair. Great video though
Thanks John :)
I can't wait to get a golf r manual. I have the mk7 gti and i love it
Is it stock for the mk 7.5 to have the blue led door trim?
Other difference, £10k compared to buying new to a 2 yr old used
Haha true
Wasn't that a 14 plate?
@adamf1979 this is pretty much the same across the board and is why I'd really hesitate to buy new. The car I have now cost 2/3 of the new price being 3 years old with 17K on the clock. to look at it you'd never know it was used and it's every bit as much of the car as it was when new, except 2/3 of the price.
They’re a bit more than that about 15k unless you want a crash repaired one! Golfs are not cheap!!
@@KOL630 found a 2015 Mk7 R Manuel 5dr Blue with 65k miles non write off for £14!
I loved both but the undeniable truth is, yours is better in everyway..plus yours are the wet clutch compares to the old one, comes with dry clutch which has more problems..yours is the "problem fix" and perfected one...love your R hamps💕👍🏻👍🏻
Hello. Are you saying mk7 has the dry clutch system, while the mk7.5 has the wet clutch system.
I looked up the internet and could not get consistent information abt this. Can you share more abt this?
Great Vid & nice car!
You should see the leather carbon seats. They look insane (for me) got them in my MK7 R. Fits great with the Tornado Red 👌🏻
Thank you!
Two thing I noticed that you haven’t said is the hidden radar in the 7.5 under the vw badge and the borderless rear view mirror.
My apologies, thanks for raising
Does the mk7.5 have the 7 speed dsg as apposed to the 6 speed? I only ask because testing the mk7 (because all I can afford) the revs are really high when doing motorway speeds I noticed
And the spoiler
@@hampshirephoto the 7.5 has the radar in the front badge rather than in the under grill like the 7
1 other thing:
The 7.5's DSG is stronger than the 7's, as it can handle more torque before running into problems. Obviously this only matters if you intend to build it, since they're both robust transmissions to begin with.
The mk 7/7.5 is the best looking golf. Change my mind
Does anyone know if when the 7.5 came into production they were still producing me 7’s?
I’m basically trying to figure out if a golf registerd in late 2017 is a standard mk7 or a facelift.
I’m guessing it would be a facelift. November 2016, Volkswagen revealed the facelifted version of the Golf MK7. By late 17 ‘ definitely 7.5 ( here in Australia at least ) do you have photos or a link?
What is the size of screen golf 7.5
Great video mate I notice there is a shark fin in your s no in the Mk7 ,love both too expensive here in Eire
Thanks buddy!
Good Vid mate. Would have been good to see what you thought of the drive difference. My wife has mk7 gti and I have 7.5 R. I believe the 7.5 is supposed to be a more rigid chassis, not really that noticeable, but I can’t believe the how the steering is so much different in the 7.5. It’s so much lighter and has a bit better feel to it. Makes it easier to drive fast.
Thanks Owen! Maybe I should do another video experiencing the cars?
pretty cool to see them side by side
It is isn't it!
"The DSG Farts" that made me chuckle 😂
I like the standard gauges since they are way more reliable. I’ve seen info systems crash and restart on various German cars and I will be scared if my speedo meter dies one day on the high way due to some system failure. I know it has much higher probability as I work on software...
I like the facelift dynamic taillights of the mk7.5 they're preferable on the mk7. The front of the mk7 bumper is more beautiful than the newer one
Is Your mk7.5 with gpf engine?
The mark 7 is my prefered
Ok so why dont both those cars have button start? Is it an option? I have a R 7 DSG with leather seats which are awesome but Its a remote key working on a proximity so i can leave it in my pocket and just start the car straight away.
Awesome videos!
Do a R400 conversion and drag race it against a standard golf 7.5R
Thanks Stephan! That's a great idea... ;)
I heard u have apreally cheap insurance on ur Golf R could u let me know what company your with I’m thinking about purchasing one
Hey sir, I wonder any different between 2018 and 2019 golf R 7.5, cause like I found out the horse power is a bit different, and I am finding one to purchase, any advice maybe....🙏
The dsg autos are faster the the Manuel's
cool video thanks !! : )
Another great vid Luke. I have Mk7.5 (Jan2018) estate if you want to do a comparison? I’m keen to know how much more “chuckable” a hatch is to an estate in the bends! And the 0.60mph times difference in real life..
Thanks Alan!
No one mentions the frame-less rear view mirror in the 7.5, which is a really nice styling cue.
Thankyou. Someone with an eye for detail
I have a golf mk7.5 white r-line, would love to see a comparison. Sometimes it isnt about the performance.
Did you drive it? Could you notice the extra 10bhp? And does the dsg, especially the 7speed, make the allready quick manual golf into a very quick car?
You can't notice the difference between the MK7.5 and the MK7 power wise. DSG is quicker to 60 by 1/2 a second than the manual...
How reliable is the Mk7 golf?
What yr model is it?
£10,000 premium for virtual cockpit, extra plastic body parts and 10bhp increase? No thanks
Vicky Donor We’ve had a win in Australia with the Grid edition. No virtual cockpit, no electric seats and no leather but still gets the rest of the standard Aussie spec. Mine was the equivalent of just under $24000 with a sunroof.
come to turkey. this car 437.000 turkish liras. minimum salary 1700 turkish liras. 1 pay car, 2 pay tax, 1 pay bank.
and 1 euro = 7.68 turkish liras
Is the mk7 and mk7.5 have the same doors
Does it work for a family car, I want a mk 7
You should have done a back to back drive video comparing the noise and driving style between them
I drive a 7.5 R myself, another thing thats different that i very much like is that it has Wireless Qi-Charging standart with the bigger radios. So i can just drop my phone in front of the shifter and it will regain energy.
Nice video, I own a 7.5R also. Cool car!!
Thanks!
Great video comparison buddy😊.👏.my friends gotta gti but thinking to get an r an join the club!! If ok with u I'll share it on a page a do C&G Cars and Bikes!👊
Thanks Winston! Yes please feel free
Think this video has sorted part of my next buy this year .. Are the mirrors different? Looks like they were automated on the 7.5. Also I was originally, um and uh on the change from analog to digital gauges.. but I realised, it's going to be a hell of a lot easier to keep clean a digital 'screen'. (The headlights def look so much better on the 7.5!)
I'm between getting the 7.5 Golf R and the AMG A45 (similarly priced models) this year. It really will come down to factors like, what do I really want vs need. Comfort vs Speed, Internal setup, fuel economy, features that the cars come with, etc. Which with research in the last few months tend to lean very much so, towards the Golf.
