AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on RUclips are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!

The man who I call dad was KIA Vietnam. I bring it up, not for my recognition but for his. He joined the Marines to go to Vietnam, he believed we were there to help the people of the Republic of South Vietnam defeat communism. He was killed 8 days after his 20th birthday.

I participate in a group of patriots (Patriot Guard Riders) who provide Honor Guard services to anyone who has honorably served our nation, however those killed in action are particularly somber events. I always bristle when I hear someone say "Happy Memorial Day", a reminder to me that some think this is a "holiday" for time away from work to barbecues and party. I'm grateful to anyone who takes the time to remember and reflect on the sacrifices that have been made for our nation. It is important that each of us does what we can to ensure that those who made the ultimate sacrifice are not forgotten.

I was lucky to be in Hawaii over the 100th anniversary of my dad's birth, he served in the 41st Infantry in the South Pacific in World War II. I toured the visitors center of the Arizona Memorial and the explanation of what the war was like drove home the sacrifice that he and so many others made. Luckily, he made it home.

When I initially made this video, I included a passage in the end, that more explicitly expressed this sentiment. And yet, if we do not speak and make such statements, then we run the risk of history repeating itself.

Yes, they had a lot to get over and really a lot transpired after the United States exited Vietnam. There was a conflict with Cambodia, and also China. And of course there was intense internal conflict between the north and the south. So I think the American war is viewed in context. We were involved for a period of time, then we exited, but the citizens of Vietnam were still dealing with war for many years after we left. Many Vietnamese resettled in the United States after the war. The history of Vietnam stretches back many centuries (Hanoi is over 1000 years old) and frankly I don’t think it makes sense to anyone there to hold grudges. They are in a good place now, and I would highly recommend Vietnam to any adventurous tourist.

I think we learned some painful lessons after that war. I hope we can continue learning to avoid future such conflicts. I hope also that as a people we have learned to respect and appreciate those who have served in uniform. I know that the vast majority of those who served were doing so with the best of intentions and represented our country with honor. Really I hope that we have Sound leader ship in this country to help us avoid sending our young people into such situation’s in the future.
