  • Is the DJI Osmo Action 3.5mm Audio Adapter right for you? What makes it different than the BOYA BY-K4? And why is it so expensive?
Motovloggers, if you suffer from clipped audio with your Action 3 or Action 4, then this adapter is for you. But other vloggers... you might be disappointed.

Thank you for the test. I switch from gopro to DJI for motovlog but since riding offroad require something that can record outside helmet environments as well as inside, I am having quite a hard time compare to the gopro media mod set up. If the sound inside the helmet is ok, the sound outside is too quieter. It is almost like DJI have their sound record only in close proximity. Will try the adapter that I just received for sure.

It is perfect for motovloggers as our issue with Action series of cameras is that the gain is almost always too hot. This DJI adapter will be perfect.

I just received my DJI adapter and have only had a chance to do a quick test with my helmet and it seems to work fine so tomorrow I will get to do a motorcycle test. I'm really happy to hear that you think it will solve the problem with loud motorcycle engines. I was disappointed to find that I could not connect the cable through the adapter and to my PC to extract the video files. That means I will have to keep taking it on and off to do that or take the SD card out and put it into a card reader. I will most likely do the card reader option. I want this to work so my helmet setup can be much simpler with fewer parts. With the gain set at +4 I had to tap on the mic pretty hard to get it to peak so I'm pretty sure this is going to work for me. Thanks for your comments, I found them helpful and encouraging. I was going to wait for your video before buying but I'm all in with both the Action 3 and 4 so another 50 bucks wasn't going to hold me back.

Hmm, long live Float 32. I had no idea why you thought testing an adapter was time well spent. I also had no idea that an adapter had any related effect on gain. In my naive mind, I thought adapters were simple pass-throughs. Everyday I learn uncomfortable truths. I'll just be using my DJI Wireless Mic system on my new DJI Osmo Action 4 anyway. Thanks for doing this effort- I learned I'm not a buyer for the adapter. Forever your student.

Thanks so much for your lengthy tests and patience , I can totally and utterly sympathise with the frustration that you have encountered this entire time. I had an original OA with cynova etc and worked fine . I 'upgraded' to the 3 for motovlogs and it held me and my channel back immeasurably 😢 I cannot locate a BY4 here in Scotland for love nor money , always unavailable here ( UK) so this adaptor will save me from maybe moving away from DJI altogether . As I say I, in particular appreciate , sympathise and overall appreciate your sterling work in this field man. You deserve DJI credit . This is a very late but welcome addition

I got the BOYA BY-K4 after watching one of your older videos. For what I'm doing - it has given me no problem.
I'm still convinced that these camera companies should invest more in camera on screen metering, as other adapters do the job. Then again - it's down to personal choice.

I have an action 3 and apparently the vibe i am getting is i am SOL. No adapter was apparently made for the 3. Nor are there any plans for it. You can buy a Pocket, an Action 4 or you can just pound sand.
There are dozens of purported work-arounds but none seem to be working anymore.
The 3 was a little TOO good i guess so this is like a rolled up newspaper to whack consumers with. 🤔

I am having trouble with my audio on my action 3… so if I use the BYK4 what mic would you run? This is for moto vlogging…

    • @roadrunner2757

I use a cheap headphone trs volume control into boya k4 and it cost maybe 2$+14$ and it works, getting that hotness a bit down. And just ordered 5 more headphone trs, they break. But cheap. Do have all that cord, Sucks. And, i do think, that the new usb c from dji is the right thing. Why, no extra 2+cord, and the plugin usb c can sit in there. So with time, usb c are not worn out. So, yes need it. Will give money worth and safer use, not all them adapters.
True, the boya k4 do have a hot input, and needed some times.
but filming easy, sound hard lol
    Glad you tested it.

I've just ordered the Boya adapter for my OA4. I plan to connect it to the Rode Videomic microphone and record crowds at gigs and concerts, on-stage and offstage in a very loud environment: speakers blasting, lots of vocals, strings and percussions.
Should I even bother trying out the Boya adapter due to its hotness? Seems to me I might be running into same issues motovloggers do.

  • @thetubelesschannel

Im a motovlogger and bought the DJI adapter. I am very disappointed. Even if I set my Action 3 cam to -8 db the my voice was very clipped. I used a Lavalier mic equal to Rode Go when it comes to output. Mounted the mic in the helmet.the only place possible, in front of my mouth. The audio from the bike was a bit low and the audio from my voice way to load and clipped. It is a big challenge to get good audio quality from within a helmet. I wish DJI did some research and found some mics that fits with their adapter and recommend. Another thing I noticed was that the audio level was much higher just after hitting the record button, then it leveled down, but clipped anyway. Also the audio dropped out very often but just a millisecond each time. Annoying as it was not even usable to record my bike sounds. It was just a mess and Im giving it up. Wasted money.

    • @marekonbike9291
      @marekonbike9291 4 месяца назад

I am having exactly the same issue. I had action won which was good. Then I had GoPro 10 which was good. Then I swap to action 4 and my Mic is mounted in my helmet. My voice is too loud and it's clipping very fast. However, from external voices, I cannot hear sounds people talking round me. So it's like the sound amplification is exponential... killing quiet, and amplification loud... too hot
