Cheap vs. Expensive Wireless Mic for iPhone: DJI vs Maybesta Sound Quality Test
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 фев 2025
- In this video I test out the differences between one of the cheapest wireless mics on Amazon made by Maybesta and a professional quality wireless microphone by DJI. While the Maybesta mic does have a lot of sound isolation, the amount of clipping and wireless interference makes it unreliable. The DJI is easy to use and offers much better sound clarity and consistency. This is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. Hopefully this helps if you're searching for a good quality mic to use with your iPhone. This video was not sponsored. I purchased both of these microphones to test out for myself and will be using the DJI mic for my own creator content. You can check out both of these mics using the links below.

If everyone did comparison videos like this the world would be a much smarter place.
Usually I’d be 1:34 into a video and I’ve only heard them talk about them selves and seen their intro.
1:34 in and i already know what I want to buy. I salute you sir
Haha
Yes. Right zo the point without intros, gimmicks, "trying to be a Tv Channel"
Agreed. So well done. Simple and straight to the point.
Agreed!
This is the most straight forward video explanation test. No bs at all.
For real
Exactly this. An actual review of how they perform rather than what's in the box. Actually find I'm thinking of going for the Maybesta as it's good enough for what I need
You know this is an excellent video product and can tell a lot of effort went into it. It’s straight forward and to the point, no corny inbetween music or extra un needed junk. Very well put together and thanks for sharing.
What I got out of this video is that you have a really nice lawn. Also, for $20 the Maybesta does everything I need it to do. 😊
🤣💯
Its awful lol
Indeed. Not paying $200 + for a 🎤🎙️ when I only get around $300 RUclips revenue a year.
This is a great test! I really like how natural the DJI system sounds. Yes, it picks up the background noise, but it doesn't excessively alter and process the sound like the cheap alternative does, and it really captures your voice effectively for a wireless system that plugs directly into the iPhone (or other smartphone). Thanks for sharing the video!
Yeah, that Maybesta makes the surrounding environment into a completely unnatural soundscape. Suddenly, no birds singing at all. The cars sound normal as they are approaching but then are immediately muffled after they've passed. Not a good reflection of real life at all. The DJI finds a nice balance between the target audio and the background sounds. But the price point 😖. I'd love to see a comparison with something closer to the DJI's price point (e.g. 50% and 75% of the price).
Great test. I heard the DJI clipping though as well, during the car test, at 02:14 "sounds" and 02:15 "passing by".
I heard this as well
That review was perfect. An actual review testing 3 items! Simple, to the point and a decent recap and conclusion
Thank you for this review, I was expecting to DJ to do a little bit better with blocking background wind noise. The cheap microphone does a lot better job of that. But the overall quality is just a lot better for DJI
Straight forward and practical situations to demonstrate the product.
I'm not having to be distracted by people being hand models and constantly checking themselves out in the recording.
Thanks for just getting to the point.
best video I’ve found on this topic. straight to the point with real examples
This is the perfect way to review some different microphones, couldn’t have though of a better way myself. Thanks!
This mics make a DIFFERENCE. the clarity in your voice, no outside noises, or very minimal. I’ve been filming 15 years, concerts, weddings, just nohhht my first wireless mics and I’m sure they’re about to change my LIFE! Thanks
Love the video. Straight to the point and what I needed to know. And yeah I would actually get both. The cheap ones would be an excellent backup. Those things are SO easy to lose.
You can accidentally swallow them as well....
Good video. Short, right to the point. Good job comparing the built in phone mic, vs the cheap lavalier, and the name brand "you get what you pay for" mic.
the maybesta sounded way better on my end. Great vid!!
Sounds even worse in person, I regret buying it-sounds even worse than my built-in Google Pixel 4a mic.
Same here
I know this video was made to move people to the DJI side and possibly for a commission, but you probably sold more Maybesta’s with this video. When you were standing near the a/c unit you couldn’t hear anything with the Maybesta but could with the DJI. So the little bit of popping you get with the maybesta when you are far away (which probably won’t be the case in most situations) or the not so good noise cancellation you get with DJI for 10x the price, the Maybesta is probably the better option.
Thanks for this test. The higher end mic really makes a difference to the video. Cheap one works well for most cases , but clarity of the DJI is phenomenal.
Straight forward comparison and review. Really appreciated it! Thanks!!
This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen today. I was looking to buy the Maybesta but not now with that sound quality. Thank You.
Agreed. I feel it would be much better if there was no built in noise cancellation. Can fix it a bit more in post with an EQ and adjusting the highs a bit
Thanks for this video, getting the maybesta for now. Definitely plan to splurge later on
Hi did you get it? How well did it perform
Greatly appreciate the side-by-side with multiple environment examples. I've been looking for a wireless lav mic for my iPhone. First $25 one on Amazon didn't work out of the box and I got a refund. As you said, you get what you pay for. Audio quality is important!
This is by far the best comparison 👏 👌
Thank you for the review... I already own the DJI, but was looking for an inexpensive alternative for my wife...so she won't keep borrowing mine. Just as a side note the "popping" is not clipping (which is when the audio waveform is cut off because it exceeds the input circuit recording level). What you're hearing is a dropout, where the transmission/reception is interrupted. Both are terms with specific meaning in the audio world, so it's best to identify them correctly.
Thanks for the clarification. Glad the video helped for comparison.
Amazing video. Straight to the point. Great reviews. Made me sub. Great content. ❤️🔥
Thanks for doing this test in a scientific manner. It really illustrated how inferior the built in microphone is on the iPhone 13 compared to the $22 Maybesta and the $250 DJI. I was very surprised at the huge improvement of sound quality and background noise cancellation of the $22 Maybesta. In my opinion, the DJI increases quality over the Maybesta by a factor of 2 however it is 10x the costs. We all have a different use case and a different budget. I'm primarily looking for a way to reduce wind noise when making a video while walking with little to no talking. Trying to attach 3 "dead cats" to the 3 mics on the iPhone top front, top back and bottom is way to cumbersome. The Maybesta with a "dead cat" cover will be a cheap, effective and easily deployable solution. For my needs the Maybesta is the Besta Valua for Mea.
It seems like the Maybesta did the job too.
Props on the grass. Looks good.
With lots of gear - whether it’s tools or tech - the old adage “buy cheap, buy twice” rings true. But actually, for $20, I think the Maybesta sounds great ! If someone’s just wanting to dip a toe in the water to see if vlogging is for them, it could be a great choice!
Type 5 Reviews, super excellent video. This video is very helpful in many ways. Please do more videos like this.
Thank you SO much for how you recorded this video. Very informative!
0:53 dead cat 😂😂😂😂 never knew that’s what they called it.
Yep 😂
@@Type5Reviewsso I wanna do RUclips vids where I’m the host and I’m interviewing multiple people but I will be using iPhones to shoot the recording into switcher studio. You still recommend the Dji mic?
Probably depends on how many people you are interviewing at a time. Having the 2 DJI mics is very easy for one on one style interviews and do think these would work great for that type of format. If you have more than one person you may have to pass the mic around or use the included magnet backer to mount it between the two people and adjust the gain accordingly. But for the money I still think it’s a great option. I’d personally even consider the new DJI mic 2 for its improved noise cancellation, but I still think the original DJI mic has a natural sound approach to noise cancelling and works well. Rode and Shure also make great iPhone mics to look at if you want the portability. But if you’re looking for more of a podcasting format where you sit down with guests you would get even better sound quality with something like a Shure sm7b or mv7, but that would require a lot larger setup without the phones, etc.
Its a old film term lol I learned in college lol
me to 😂😂
Love this kind of review and comparison. Thank you so much for the in depth and versatile comparisons!
The is the only video I’ve watch so far that really tested it thank you.
GREAT TEST
Thank you for you time in this video! Honestly the best so far review and I will decide more easy.
Good comparison. The DJI is Definitely the winner in sound. Thx 😊
Excellent test my man! Thanks for the info!
thank you for this review
Honestly, I love the DJI mics but for IRL live streamers just starting out that want a cheap wireless lav-style mic, the Maybesta MAY BE (pun slightly intended) a good starting point. I run a broadcasting company where a subsidiary of it is based solely around IRL livestreaming. Great video! Very insightful. Thanks for the comparison.
The Maybesta did really well.👍
You got us to buy the DJI! Used your link too;) thanks for this video!
Great video man, you applied realistic situations
This is totally off topic but your lawn is beautiful my guy 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Thanks. 👍🏻
Really appreciate all the work that went into this, it was really useful!
Something unexpected I got out of your testing is just how noisy cars really are 😅
Exactly what I was looking for. Great job, and thank you so much for this! With Amazon today, “best sellers” are temping! Haha
Dead cat sounds really nice. Subbed to the channel for direct way of communicating the tests. Bravo !
I m going to buy my first mic ever . And i got answer which one is best for me. Thank you for detailed live comparison
... For anyone else that wants to do an instruction video, take tips from this video.
1. NO B-Role. It waste time.
2. NO background noise/music. It add nothing to the video. It is annoying.
3. Plan what you are going to be talking about and speak clearly.
This video wins on multiple levels.
Thank you,
.
Oh, by the way, if you didn't mention the clicks, I most likely would never had heard them.
. Jeff .
Very nice review. I have a wireless mic that does a lot of "Clipping" so its nice to see others do that as well and to stay away from them.
A bit more expensive? Understatement of the century.
You don't necessarily need to scrap a recording due to occasional popping. Just edit, filter in post. If it happens while speaking you can record that part again and stitch it in. However, I'd rather use the option that saves that time. The DJI mic also provides better voice quality with more background noise, but that can also be removed later, with a slight reduction in voice quality but still better than the cheap one.
Thank you for explaining the difference so thoroughly
I just had to comment again. This is the best review video I've ever seen.
Thanks!
$25 vs $250... Yes the DJI sounds better, but not 10x in my opinion. The Maybesta sounds fine. 80% of the performance at a 1/10 of the price. I'm taking the Maybesta.
Idk. I personally hear an enormous difference, mostly in clarity and sheer quality. And to be honest in a lot of cases the Maybesta actually sounds worse than the default iPhone microphone, with the only benefit of the maybesta being you can walk a lot further (which is nice, don’t get me wrong) but aside from that very specific situation, I’d either splurge for the DJI, netting you both a massive increase in sound quality and an increase in range, or save the 25 bucks and use the iPhone microphone if I don’t find myself needing to walk far away from my phone.
DJI all the way! The Maybesta sounds like a phone call from 20 years ago…for indoor stuff tho, the iPhone’s internal mic is pretty damn good
@@GutsmanLoLyeah
Good luck. The second you move around with the Maybesta the clipping and popping is very noticeable.
Fully agree with your opinion 👍🍁
This guy is a National Treasure.
awesome video ...thank you for the clarity!
Good review, and helpful. Thanks
Absolute chad of all reviewers
This is an awesome comparison video. The Maybesta isn't that bad. A bit of EQing should cleared out that muffled sound effect. As for the DJI, it comes just perfect. They seem like all nice choices for indoors recording.
Excellent review. Great job. Good info.
Thorough review! Thank you!
The popping noise wasn’t really bad the maybesta wasn’t really bad at all even at the AC unit it blocked that noice out more then the dji
I never heard the Maybesta popping sounds
Me too
I did not hear it too!
He wants you to use his affiliate link to purchase the $160 mic over the $20 mic. That’s all.
I've heard it a couple of time. But the DJI noise cancel is bullshit
Exactly. He just want you to use his link
Very informative vedio... ❤Good job Sir...
Thank you for testing these mics. Very imformative.
this dude has a great backyard. The grass is so green!
Definitely the DJI for the win
Really cracking video. Only thing is , whilst range might be an issue with the Maybesta, once you look at the price difference then I think at entry level you can forgive the Maybesta for what it can do. Did find this video still highly useful.
Thanks, definitely picking one up!
I flat out like the Maybesta mic the best.
Very useful video. Great job! Thank you!
maybesta for the win. sounds way better than the more expensive one. just sucks that it clips. that really is bummer ugh. but i neeeeeed the background noise cancellation it's the only reason im looking for a lav
Amazing test!
Nice review!
I realize this was a year ago, @Type5Reviews, but what you didn’t say was if you had the iPhone on cinematic or normal. Cinematic video setting removes all but super loud background noise like a train 20 yards behind you, just with the iPhone alone.
Great job!!! DJI seemed to have a lot more background noise. I wonder, “Can it can be adjusted prior to editing?” Maybesta sounded clearer on my end.
@@gregorycooke5133 maybesta had very strong noise cancellation while the DJI sounded a lot more natural. The newer DJI mics have even better noise cancellation if that is what you are looking for.
Good testing. Thanks
straight to the point. Thank you.
This is such a great video 👏 Thanks so much
Thank you, I appreciate your indepth testing =)
Great Video. 💯💯 Sounds like the Maybesta is the best one. Especially the noise cancellation. Ouch. What do the the dj ones do so great if they don’t even sound the best ? They must have some wonderful feature
Careful! The Maybesta may sound more bright and crisp, but In normal conversational speech the DJI will wound more warm and natural. And in the end it will also give you more body in the recordign to play around with and EQ later. Except that we have to PAY for the DJI!
awesome comparison, thanks!
I do 99% of my recording from less than 4 feet away from my phone while sitting still. From the sounds I heard, the cheap one was not too different from the DJI. It seems that the clipping was while you were moving around at a distance and it was trying to keep the connection. For up-close recording, they both sound decent.
Great video bro =) very informative
Video really helped me confirm my purchase of the cheaper version ! I also loved the vid so. Much and subb3 to u
ye the cheaper one does a better job.. he may have emi in his area
The DJI microphone did not cancel the noise at all, that's a huge fail for me! The cheap mic actually did a better job at canceling noise. I'd go with the Maybesta or keep looking for a different mic, I'm partial to Rode!
Rode is other class...
my advice would be to add the prices for each to show the diffrence in price and quality, other then that great video!
Great review. I helped convince to spend the money on a decent wireless mic rather than a cheap one.
Great review 🎉
Great video. I think I will use ypur link right now for the DJI
Veryry good video. The Maybesta is really not that bad!
Audacity has a pop / click removal function. What I hear as a music maker, has more to do with the EQ / tone each mic produces. DJI is more natural sounding by far. Interestingly, I've watched females demo cheap mics and they sound better than when a man uses them suggesting the mics have a lot of bass rolloff.
Great vid. Would have loved to hear the prices of both thou.
THank you for the video, very helpful.
Thanks for the review! I was looking at the Maybesta and all that clipping just will not do. I would rather deal with the default iphone than deal with the clipping. There is a Rythflo that might be the best option for my needs.
Thanks a lot, actually the cheap one is more with cancellation noise, but dji is more clearer voice.
Dji sounds more natural, but the maybesta sounds a lot cleaner except for the clipping
Not my experience at all-cheap and dated sounding and will pop and clip the second you move around.
Very cool video thanks for sharing
Great job, man !!!!
