Underrated track
its not even out?
@@sobot_ that track is from the album Diamond Eyes of 2013
And for been a period of bad times for Deftones, it's not worst, and it's not ugly enough
@@djBuBx 2010*
All Deftone Tracks are underrated
Easily one of their best songs, shame it's so underrated.
the song would still be amazing even if everyone on the planet hated it
One of my favourite of this album, of course.
It’s such a good song!
Everything about it is so good. Chino's smooth but somewhat strained vocals during the verses, a melodic and rich chorus, the lyrics, the hopeful tone it brings with just a touch of ominous flair, those synthetic key notes that play over the quick and stuttering riff... This song is killer on all fronts.
Songs like this one is why I hold Diamond eyes in such high regard. Not like Ohms. Old stuff is better imo
koi no yokan is another absolute gem of an album. gore and ohms do not match
This made me realize how much Chino does with what minimal playing Steph does. That's some visionary melodic writing on a vocalist's part. It's not a knock to Steph - I think he realized that simplicity is what open's up Chino's writing.
That's just Deftones. Steph is always minimalistic I feel with just groove oriented riffs. The stars are Chino and Abe! This is one of my favorite songs and its crazy how little steph actually does to make it sound bad ass LOL
who says chino didnt write these guitar lines himself
Sometimes simplicity is best. Don’t be sleepin on Steph, his groove is dope af
@@vic.1234 Listen to the last two albums, you'll hear the difference.
@@mortrialto4365 but i assume you have no actual clue who wrote what exactly. why would a vocalist let his melodies depend on some random chords some other band member throws together.. he can sit with a guitar himself and have a way better workflow for taking his vocals in the direction he feels is best.
The 8 string guitar has such a powerful sustain on the low end, just makes the song.
Love these 8 strings Telecaster 😍
And i'm a keyboard player 😁
it's amazing
Diamond Eyes is a special album for me; Senior year in highschool, first car, first job, i bumped a shit ton of diamond eyes
We lived the same life 👌👌👌
same dude!
My senior year it was white pony, but diamond eyes came out during a major transition period in my life and has stuck around with me longer 💜 all the albums are equally beautiful and bring out my soul though.
@@bla9437 white pony is so fucking good. That's always the one I recommend to introduce someone to Deftones, but Diamond Eyes is definitely special to me
It’s probably my favorite. They’re all timeless though.
The whole Diamond Eyes album sounds so big and powerful. The guitars sound like the grinding gears of some immense rolling war machine, the drums cut right through the mix to reverberate in your chest and head, and the bass is an ever-present blanket of low-end satisfaction. The louder you play it the better it gets. It's easily my favourite album of the '10s in terms of production and mixing.
This was the album that made me a fan. From to back bangers. I think fondly of when I heard this for the first time. Can’t believe Self Titled will be 20 years old this year!!
Well said!
Very well said indeed!
The grinding gears things makes sm sense omg
Thank you Stephen!
Doesn't every album and every song Deftones puts out have a huge impact and such strong feelings, emotions and memories attached!? Thats the magic of music! \m/
Strong memories attached. It brings me back to that place in time like a time machine thinking about the place I was where I listened to that song the most
For me, it's memories of nice long walks on warm summer nights with the faint scent of flora in the air while Diamond Eyes played on from beginning to end then repeat.
@@garnet229 perfect reply. Yeah I get it..big time. !!!
thats the magic of Deftones
4reeal. Everything they've released is good. Always consistent. Each album is so different sounding without losing their (deftone) sound.
This song helps me get through those difficult times in the medical field. There is nothing better than overcoming any situation never give up and keep trying. God Bless Deftones
The chorus of this song is so banging, it’s like slightly discordant Depeche Mode
Agreed, the chorus of this one stuck out to me more than any other deftones song an never could quite put my finger on why
I fucking LOVE this song I wish it was him actually playing with a instrumental track but this is still cool to have.
100% These videos are not "play throughs" at all. Bugs me.
@@BPoweredLove seriously, more time spent getting cool shots than functional ones
Wish his guitar volume was higher and cutting through more.
@@MrChasemz I am fairly certain it is just the song over footage of him without any actual sound of him playing
@@bigdog517 yeah sadly
Feels like an underrated tune. Always loved it.
YOOO I can't wait, this was one of my favs off of Diamond Eyes.
Only my all time favorite Deftones song. The first song I remember hearing from them, and I immediately thought to myself "I have to hear everything these guys have ever made! And ASAP!" And I do not regret that decision! Such a great band, such a great sound.
What is ASAP?
I can't say one song that is my favorite (Deftones) I'm much older than the fans but my brother bought Adrenaline in '95 and we listened to that together but I stole it and I brought home since that day I was hooked on Deftones and I met Chi once in Chicago after the show and he signed my ticket I think it was on '97 and I still have it.
@@gianboxmec As Soon As Possible
Mine was hole in they earth in the car made my hair stand. Then I found Minerva I was like 🤯
Same. I heard the Diamond Eyes Album played at a concert of theirs and it blew me away. I got heavy into them after that. And Koi Yokan is like Diamond Eyes No. 2. Their both badass mature well composed albums. They touch the soul man. All their elements in musicianship meld together so well. It's unbelievable.
One love for Chi! Love that almost every time they play this live, Chino dedicates it to Chi! This song also reminds me of my best friend who passed too soon. Brings tears with every listen.
Risk is one of the best songs from deftones imo and one of my favorite songs I've ever heard.
This and 976-evil
Diamond Eyes is such a killer album.
I feel privileged to live on the same plane as the Deftones!! cheers and Godbless!!
That movement when practicing where you just rock back and forth to the beat. That's what real "ROCK" does. Doesn't matter the genre.
I remember hanging out with my buddy who had this crazy sense of rhythm. He was a metronome. But couldn’t dance to save his life. It made no sense.
He has a wonderful taste with his signature guitars.. Less common and beautiful colors, pretty gold hardware, different pickup position.. So Minimal yet so rich instruments.
And this particular is with normal people's bridge
I’m agree
Yes he truly is a genius guitarist. He never goes for anything really flashy. He uses unique riffs and helps carry the songs. He is the lead guitarist and yet his playing is more like a rhythm guitarist. He also loves 7 and 8 string guitars that have different ranges. He is also self taught with guitar playing.
Holy crap hell yes!!! Risk is so underrated and the fact that they have been playing a lot of their songs that they don't normally play live is awesome!!! Just another reason to love Deftones!!!
His guitar tone on this album is one of the most unique and captivating sounds I have ever heard. I can’t get enough of it. Now I know why, it’s an 8 string telecaster.
I still can't believe Steph is on here doing all these playthroughs. It's literally like a dream come true. Thank you for always influencing me heavily as a guitarist and writing some of the best riffs ever put out 🤘
Can't wait! Got an 8 string recently and been meaning to learn this!
Heads up, I’m pretty sure this whole album is in standard tuning. So he has a low B for the seventh string and a low F# for the eighth string. Also, there’s really good covers of Koi No Yokan floating around RUclips. Definitely check them out!
@@sooperkid321 Thanks Blake, appreciate it! That's right, I've actually been playing Diamond Eyes, You've Seen the Butcher and Rosemary over and over for the past few days. Didn't realize just how addictive an 8 string guitar would be.
This is where I'm trying to get!
Should take about 5 minutes to learn by the looks of it, lmao.
My love for Deftones is unexplainable
Wen I’m working jammin them out I
Stop working jus to pretend I’m
Singing their songs 😝😝
Mad love y’all a huge influence in our lives
Nothing like this band, man! For realsies. In a universe all their own. Proud to be a fan!
Keep. Them. Coming.
You can't talk, I'm anxious
I'm off the walls
I'm right here just
Come outside and see it
But pack your heart, you might need it
[Chorus]
I'll find a way
I'm confused though
But I think I can try
I will save your life
I will save your life
I'll try for you
[Verse 2]
You're locked up, you exhaled
You did it before and I seen it
Come outside and breathe in
Relax your arms and let me in
[Chorus]
I'll find a way
I'm confused though
But I think I can try
I will save your life
I will save your life
I'll try for you
I know what to say to take you
Higher, higher
No one else can take you higher
But I will try
[Chorus]
I'll find a way
I'm confused though
But I think I can try
I will save your life
I will save your life
I'll try for you
I'll find a way
I'm confused though
But I think I can try
I will save your life
I will save your life
I'll try for you
[Outro]
For you
For you
This song is great! For the ones whose lives were saved and also the ones who lost it, my admiration and respect! Risk means a lot me now that my dad is gone because of ‘Rona! 🖕🏿 cherish life and enjoy guys! All the best!
Sorry to hear that, friend. And if this song gave you some comfort than I think all of us fans can appreciate that.
@@endcensorship874 Sure! 😊 This is what I love about music! 💚
Strong my friend, sending good vibes here
Got a tattoo that says “risk” as a nod to my dad who passed from early onset Alzheimer’s. It’s cuz of the lyrics. Can’t not cry when I hear them.
This just made my whole entire LIFE. favorite band, favorite guitarist, and favorite song.
Deftones forever
Please make "Knife Prty" :(
Me encanta este tema. De mis favoritos de diamond eyes👌 Esa ESP se ve brutal!!
LIstening to deftones is like a brain massage
You guys should do it with different clips .. chino singing , Stephen on guitar , abe on the drums , Sergio on the bass , and frank on the turntables ! That’ll be gnarly !! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
That’s called a “music video” sir.

Thank you. Such a beautiful song
This song changed my life, I've been saving lives ever since 🚑🚑🚨🚨 so thank you Deftones you saved my life ❤️
This track is one of my favs of DE and of Deftones generally.
This track did deliver and saved my life.
What a badass idea to put a Fender Telecaster body on his signature model ESP!
He admires the classic look
Battle Axe! I feel it's coming! 🔥
Stephen Carpenter has the best 7/8 string collection I've ever seen
Dope!!!!!!! Thanks Stephen!!!!!!!
this song is one of my favs, so good.
Hes so under appreciated. His skills are phenomenal. Steph you kick ass bro
Awesome
Diamond eyes it's perfect.
Stephen plays this so smooth. Smooth and heavy, my favorite.
Also watch at 2:02 the camera changing focus between his hand when he hits open and mutes. Sickest thing i've ever seen
This song means a lot today, 10 years since Chi left.
Just gotta add,,, as a fan of the band and weekend guitar guy , there is nothing cooler than getting play through vids from the actual source !!
I lost my mom two weeks ago. I've been devastated and have had zero interest in guitar or much else for that matter. This made me pick up my guitar. Thanks Stephen
DEFTONES ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
riff contagiante 😏
Bought Diamond Eyes at Walmart in a tiny Iowa town on a 9 hour trip back home. I listened to it on repeat most of the way home.
Risk and cmnd/ctrl are my favs
Fav Def track. So nostalgic, reminds me of being in my teens. Adore the effects in the chorus.
I swear every time I start this song it never makes me view ads first lol. The only Stephen Carpenter playthrough for that to be the case.
can we talk about how cool the lyrics to this song are?
"just come outside and see it,
but pack your heart, you might need it"
Fucking a.
FUCKING A!
Deftones have been by my side since 96.
Proud to have them as one of my lifes soundtracks over the years.
I fucking love this band, these artists, these songs, these albums. THANK YOU
I can say only for myself. But thank you, Deftones, for these playthrough videos. They are magnificent :)
Maybe, Steph is planning to create a guitar course?
Im dying right now ♥
steph makes beautiful riffs and yet at the same time so much pain and dark riffs !!!!!
This song reminds me of living in Oahu, warm days Under the trees then all the debauchery when the night came alive.. miss those days.
Please make "The Spell of Mathematics" ! PLEASE !
What a song
@@rajivshah2761 I know right 🥺 ?
Holy and strict. Six times a day.
one of my favorite tracks from this album
Would love to see Abe do a complete play-through of the album
Thank you so much for all these playthroughs during lockdown, Stephen.
You are the best, Stef.
Didn’t know that I need this
Love this song...
Always played this song when my dad went through Alzheimer’s. The chorus got me in the feels every single time. RIP Dad 🙏🏽
My favorite from Diamomd Eyes. Please Do not stop! There are so many cool songs I would love to see.
This song is always about my dog to me. He saved my life. Lyrically, it's so accurate it's weird.
Please do some SNW stuff. Riviere would be amazing especially w Chino singing.
Favorite song from Diamond Eyes hands down
my all-time favorite Deftones song
I always cry with this track one love for chi
This has to be their best album. I’d love to see a play through of 967-EVIL from the man himself
So beautifully elegant and crushingly heavy all at the same time.
This was my fuckin jam in 2010. It got me through army EOD school. If you don't know, it's not easy.
Thanks for coming out to Coney Island a few yrs back. Love what u guys do to this day 🍻
My love for Steph knows no bounds XXX
Perfection. Tell Chino we are dying for another Palms album! 🌴
AND Team Sleep!
I fuckin need another Palms’ album.
I think he’s already come out & said they never planned on doing another palms record
@@Fataleggz1 I hope he changes his mind. If I ever hit the mega millions I'll completely fund another palms album!
@@Fataleggz1 I'm not even totally sure it's Chino's decision. It's most likely up to Jeff Caxade who's retired from music after shutting down ISIS and Hydra Head.
Love you Stephen . Thanks for the music
Steph doesn’t just play to the riff, he contributes to the melody. He literally shapes the soundscape and highlights Chinos vocals.
Totally underrated as a guitarist and furthermore as a musician. Anyone can say that his shit is basic, but it’s the substance of what he plays more than the showmanship. Steve Vai is one of the greatest guitarists ever, but I can only name a few of his compositions.
Similarly, Frank Zappa is amazing from a technical aspect, but it was the songs that made him one of my favorite musicians of all time.
A perfect song
Este riff salvo mi vida GRACIAS!
Favorite Deftones track right here
These videos are amazing. KEEP MAKING MORE PLEASE!!!
Favorite track on the album!
Deftones i love you
One of the best Deftones songs
Dude isn't even trying.... effortless floss! Legend 🙌
Please "Bloody Cape" or "Lovers"

Thanks Stephen!!
We wanna hear the guitar playing, please raise it in the mix for the next video!!
The best of these videos is that Steph seems to be playing not only hits and singles but all those "hidden" gems from each album. Thank you so much for this!
