There was a time I lived in Reseda and these guys that were like brothers or something or twins have long curly hair for blonde hair and they were a friend of a roommate I rented to and they came over when I was off and playing guitar and I had a song that I had recorded just on my tape player and it was called touch the sky and it was about love that there was love I had said you couldn't touch the guy to this guy but I think I would say you can and I did say you can but I said you can't as well anyway the song reminds me exactly like my song kind of only I think the words and lyrics kind of we're better than me cuz I was still just trying to complete a song anyway I heard this and right away reminded me of my own and I went to look it up and I swear I thought tempest was two brothers at first was two brothers at first and they were the ones that made this song I'm wondering if these guys didn't get a record deal and then started to record made like made the song and then took off with the record company money and blew their deal could this be true and then Deftones ended up with the song I don't know maybe I'm mistaken but I swear it wasn't the Deftones when I first looked up the song it was these blonde Brothers I'm trying to turn the wipers off they're not going off I can't find off help okay
Absolutely phenomenal song. That opening riff/verse riff is hands down one of the most badass, tough riffs ive ever heard. And chinos singing over it takes it from 10/10 to 11/10. My only complaint with the song is the chorus. I definitely think they couldve redone that completely.
My Own Summer was the first song I learned on guitar when i was 12. To watch you play it on this channel would be great and take me back to a time I fell in love with the instrument.
As a keyboardist and DJ, I agree this really should happen. So many of their songs are so well produced that Frank's parts sit in the mix in such a way that you can't exactly tell they're there but you would know it if they were missing.
It's like the added string every album has allowed Stephen to become more mellow, but heavier at the same time. Does that even make sense? Probably not.
He used to bang away on his downtuned 6 string...fat chords all over the place... Now...single note chugs on his 7 and 8 strings... Plus Chino plays rhythm on some tracks now Shoot...im probably not making sense either
Essentially he is just playing in the Bass frequency. All the guitar heard in this song is Chino's "rythym" guitar. It works for now but if the dude goes any lower, it will just be palm muting and chugs. Sergio will have to be playing the bottom string just to find some room. I agree, his guitar playing has become simpler. From Adrenaline to Ohms. Adrenaline songs are more intricate to play than Ohms songs (I've learned a few").

@@metaldog756 I don't know. On the Ohms album you can barely hear Sergio's bass (Mathematics track comes to mind) almost muddy sounding. He is going to have to stick to some chugs in that low string and start to play on the bottom six more.
i remember hearing this one back then & thinking that their music/sound keeps evolving. I can jst imagine how it must sound in that space/studio w/ those sound city stacked like that. Thats a solid peace of wood he's playing, neck fretboard. Like the guitar shots at the end...p/u's & the beginning shot of his cab. hows that subtle intro & then...bang!
Thanks for the big three off of Koi no Yokan! (Gauze, Leathers, Tempest) These and the playthrough videos you do are a treat. I hope you do 'What Happened to You?' Imo one of the more underrated tracks from you guys but it always stuck with me from the first listen as it was a fantastic outro after every other banger on that album. ✌

I actually and literally threw White Pony out of the window of my 1990 240SX on the way to a skate spot years and years ago. Later after buying it again, I realized that maturity can be and is represented by growth of understanding, patience, and understanding. A long time ago there was a battle of the origins of Korn vs Deftones. Deftones were before and they are still now. 🙏🏾

I had no idea Steph used such a light touch when playing. I'll have to try that. I have his 7 string baritone and feel like I make the strings flap around too much playing harder lol
You need heavier strings as dumb as it might sound. Get a custom set of strings. I don't even have callous on my fret hand cause I play so light after 17 years though I just got my technique to where there's no wasted energy or effort. I use a. 80. Guage as my low string for my 7 which works well for drop f sharp and drop e on a 7. Which, with a baritone 7 I'm assuming you're tuning down anyways. Other than that. Having a light touch with guitar and economic technique just comes with time. And having a guitar setup how You like. I like a good amount of string tension. It helps. Tuning stability, makes the guitar easier to play imo and they stay in tune better. I buy 8 string sets and ditch the high e and that's what I use.

I'll be honest, I HATE his tone on the first album, sounds like he's playing inside a tin can, but it greatly improved from Around The Fur forward.

Dang what tuning you in+strings you using? Just out of curiosity lol
If you have the wrong gauges, you may get floppy strings if you play any tuning that isn't standard on specific guitars
I'm sure he uses more energy during his live sets , this looks like rehearsal for tour , he's basically warming up / practicing.
