    Yes, memorize your social security number.
    I recommend you pack lightly. A change of clothes and whatever your recruiter includes in your packing list. You’re gonna get issued all new uniforms anyways and get a chance to buy things you need for personal hygiene. This is to reduce your stress as the less you have to carry, the better.
    Don’t get discouraged. It’s going to suck. Embrace it. Be prepared to move and don’t do anything to make a bad first impression on your drills and especially with your fellow soldiers.
    Stay motivated and don’t what your told. Hooah.

      Im thinking on bringing underwear, spirt bras and socks (also some black short for under pt clothes (which i think it’s allowed?)
      And for hygiene deodorant, gel, soap, toothbrush and paste.
      For hair a couple different hair tie, pins and a brush
      Do you think something else is needed?

    • @jthavorn
      @jthavorn 2 года назад +2

      @@alexacabello9625 this is definitely something you should ask your recruiter about. They’ll provide a packing list. I would only recommend bringing things outside of that packing list to a minimum. I once saw a solider show up to AIT with a trunk filled with a PlayStation, Xbox and a 15” tv. Don’t overdue it.

    I arrived at the 43rd AG Reception Battalion in Fort Leonard Wood, MO on 25 MAR99, and I spent three weeks there waiting for my BCT Company to receive all of its recruits and become operational. Being at Reception for three weeks was hellish, and we could not wait for proper Basic Training to begin... The day our BCT Drill Sergeants came to get us was almost a relief, even though we headed straight to Shakedown from there... (From what I hear Shakedown does not exist any longer, and that's a shame). I graduated BCT on 10JUN99, almost 24 years ago! There were no smartphones back then, and the Internet had only been around for a few years... It was a different world.

    This has a good storytelling along with some nostalgia. Before I even joined my mom and dad especially always preached to me to memorize your social. Came in handy. But Ft Jackson circa 2010 reception was frustrating. Ask Liz she’ll know lol to be honest I actually slept good once I got to my company

    Heyyyy, I'm from Atlanta and was recruited from there. I know the trainees going to Fort Benning and Fort Jackson bus from Hartsfield-Jackson while those going to Fort Sill and Fort Leonard Wood fly. The USO at ATL is nice and comfortable and the staff is amazing. Fortunately, because those of us going to Fort Sill got bumped a day, we got 2 vouchers. We hit up BWW at Hartsfield-Jackson and went to the Food court when we got to Dallas during our layover to OKC.

      @@nerdygamerguy8378 MOST of the time that's true. They would have us squat down instead of do push-ups. We did push-ups for that one drill sgt though. They can get away with things from time to time. Sure, we can complain, but: they won't be as receptive to recruits who have been in the army for all of 2 days, that drill sgt's punishment likely won't be very severe (that's to say if he gets one), and most if all; we just wanna pass basic training. One thing you'll discover is that rules aren't always followed, even by the army itself. Sometimes, the army flat out does whatever the hell it wants.
