I'm so irritated that I've had disk brake stuff for two years now but other guys are getting it done before me!😄
When you do your air pack, remember NOT to flip the seal around like I suggested to in my video. The one in the aluminum housing that goes between the air cylinder and hydraulic side. It wasn't actually installed wrong when I took it apart, but there's no way for me to edit that video now.

Garrett, this video was shot last year about this time, I just finally found it as it was lost somewhere on my phone! Lol!
I had the short style air pack on the truck and I replaced it with a long style, completely rebuilt from either Boyce or Big Mike's. I did have to replace the master cylinder as well, the internal spring went bad. Previous owner(s) did NOT have a brake linkage return spring on the truck, so the little spring inside the master cylinder was pushing back not only the piston (it's job), but all of the brake linkage as well. This stresses the importance of getting educated about the vehicle and doing due diligence went servicing and inspecting. I was lucky that this missing spring didn't turn into something bigger on the road.
After all that parts replacement, I'm happy to report that the truck's brakes are still super! I've got more brake pedal than ever before and the stopping distances have greatly been decreased. You're going to love your truck even more after you get this done.

Can you use the original master cylinder? What about dot5 brake fluid?

Yes you can...no issues. DOT 5 all the way...don't use anything else.

Lovin the Vid set. Very cool of you. Been looking at an M35 but leaning toward a M923A2 but the multi-fuel thing has me thinking again and again. Nice of you to contribute to peoples knowledge-base.

The M35 takes up less real estate as well. A lot less complicated to work on too…..and unless you get an A3 with CTIS, you don’t have that system to worry about either. I’ve seen quite a few folks that are enamored with the idea of a 5 ton, but then kick themselves when a complicated system malfunctions.

@@chopperbuilder70 I am an electronics engineer with extensive automation machinery diagnosis and repair experience. So not much scares me about being able to find a problem and fix it... I just don't want the related fixing costs. With the deuce power or power assist hydraulic steering, ARBs in all 3 axles, disc breaks, 14.00 or 395s, lockout hubs on the front, tire carrier, as much juice as possible from the engine, Li batteries, more fuel capacity and a long list beyond that. If I buyan M813 the list would be similar.

watched the video again How did everything turn out? better stopping? I'll just be doing the front ( for now ) and going with 395 tires

Everything is working out really well! There have been a few times where I’ve really been glad I did the mod due to careless drivers cutting out in front of me, the extra stopping power makes a big difference.

hey Buddy question , did just doing the rear convertion make a huge difference? im just curious

I’m sure it would! I converted mine all at the same time though.

Mud truck guy over here. I have custum 16.5 rims with a 44" tire. Was curious if a 16.5" rim shells would fit over this assembly or if this requires a 20 or 24" rim

Not having an exact wheel to test fit on my rig, it might work on yours. It looks to be enough room, but it could be tight.

These came as a kit from Boyce Equipment in Utah. I paid about $800 for them, but I’m sure pricing may have changed.

Great! It’s an excellent kit and works really well. Stopping has greatly improved and makes the truck that much better to drive.

@@chopperbuilder70 I’ll check it out for mine. I also like the manual hubs 👍

    • @chopperbuilder70
      @chopperbuilder70  2 года назад +1

@@dieselwrench3621 I got those since my truck has a full time transfer case. Previous owner took the front drive shaft out. I installed these and reinstalled the driveshaft so at least I have that option now. Swapping in an air shifted case would far exceed cost and time of just hubs.

@@chopperbuilder70 I like the idea of being able to lock in the front when you want to. I’ve seen them the center axle and front axle at a show the owner said with just the rear pushing he was getting 3 more miles per gallon of diesel
