    Great info. First close up I’ve seen of the dual circuit system.

    Man Garrett ,, 🤩its so good to see you back for a while, you have created a wealth of knowledge and a Library for present and future Military vehicles especially the former models. So much knowledge will be lost but you have made it possible for these old vehicles to keep surviving 💪and giving much enjoyment to their owners and drivers.
    Thank you very much.💂‍♂

    Thank you for this!
    I own one and can testify, yes you can most definitely have a short and a long that’s the way mines set up
    On a side note
    When I hit the brake pedal there’s no resistance until about the last 4 inches of the pedal and I have to stand on them to slow down not stop 😂
    If I violently pump the brakes I can get better and better braking force.
    I’m getting ready to rebuild the air packs and get a new master cylinder assuming the majority ot my issues are within those two
    When I take the service plug off brake fluid comes pouring out.

      Yeah, so that's a sure sign of a failung air pack.
      Probably need a good brake shoe adjustment too.

    Cool...thanks for sharing. Nice to see that some of these trucks have dual brake lines and air packs. Too bad the dual line master cylinders are rear and hard to find. I hope someone makes quality after market parts for that particular master cylinder.
    But in the mean time...I was wondering if these can be converted to the original signal circuits brake system since the signal circuit master cylinders are more available?

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Год назад

      You can, but you have to change the whole pedal bracket assembly and of course the lines.
      You can still find the master cylinder with some diligent searching. They are a regular commercial truck part. Getting the civilian part number and then finding one with the right reseroir is what makes it difficult. On the surplus parts side they're pretty much dried up, but you can still find them on the civilian side with some work.

    Thanks for the drop of knowledge, but my question is, if adding air tool oil to the air pack, how much oil would be recommended to add? I've never added any to mine and no idea if it ever has been done, sure couldn't hurt, lol.

    I work for UPS as a mechanic and these master cylinders look just like the Hydromax ones that every UPS package van has. Given Hydromax has so many options I would imagine there's something close enough to work. Do you have the mounting hole measurements? I measured one today for my dual circuit conversion plans.

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Год назад

      I don't, but I think you're right. If they don't have a perfect match, they likely have one very close that could be modified to fit.

    • @claytoncherry3192
      @claytoncherry3192 Год назад

      Does this bracket set it further forward? My single circuit has 6 inches from the mounting holes to the crossmember. I thought about making an adapter plate but the master cylinder would have to go through the crossmember to fit.

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Год назад

      @@claytoncherry3192 it's set in nearly the same place. It may be forward a few inches but I can't tell by just looking and I've never measured it.

    Man, was not expecting to need a 2nd air pack to upgrade to dual circuit. Any way around this or that unsafe somehow?
    Have the dual circuit master, guess I'll have to go back and reread what all's necessary.

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  2 месяца назад +1

      No way around it aside from re-engineering the whole system. If you already have the master cylinder and mounting bracket then all you need is the other air pack and some line work.

    Have an airforce truck but feels like it has air in lines. Have tried bleeding brakes with no luck. Any ideas on other causes for this issue or just a failure to fully bleed them.

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Год назад +1

      Just bleed. It can be difficult to get all the air out.

    • @ogfoxhound
      @ogfoxhound 2 месяца назад +1

      Dealing with a similar issue, bled mine over half a dozen times and kept getting air in. My best guess after taking the air pack apart and seeing 2 bad seals and a broken main spring, I *think* I found my issue. Try rebuilding the air pack if they refuse to bleed and you're sure there's no line leaks

    I see that Boyce equipment has a dual circuit master cylinder on their website. Would that just bolt up where the single circuit one went? Then just add the second air pack and proportioning valve etc.

    • @tacticalrepair
      @tacticalrepair  Год назад +1

      I don't think so. The bracket and mounting flange are entirely different between the single and dual circuit master cylinders.
