His license wasn't suspended. It was reinstated by the court years ago, but someone at the Secretary of State dropped the ball and didn't file the paperwork. So when he was stopped by police, the computer said (incorrectly) that his license was suspended. This court hearing was so he (and his lawyer) could explain that, and get that case thrown out. It's unfortunate that the judge made his jdugment without giving him a chance to explain - the whole point of having courts is to allow both sides to present their case. I really wish the news would give the followup as much coverage as they did the original story.

I’ve seen an update. His suspended license was reversed 2 years ago, but the paperwork hadn’t been filed properly. So from his perspective, his license was no longer suspended.
i had a similar situation years ago where i said i wanted to contest a traffic ticket and they put it in their system as no contest. while i was waiting to be notified when the court date was, my license had been suspended for not paying the ticket on time and then my insurance was cancelled because my license was invalid all without anyone notifying me. i eventually got pulled over and almost arrested and ended up having to pay upwards of $1500 when i wanted to contest a $200 speeding ticket.

Update, as of 5JUN2024. This individual was NEVER issued a driver's license. Records show he renewed his state-issued ID card each year, and you're not allowed to have both an ID and a DL. Wow. Totally bizarre!

This individual was NEVER issued a driver's license.
Records show he renewed his state-issued ID card each year, and you're not allowed to have both an ID and a DL.
