    Simple answer… He plays for a team that’s from Boston. The modern sports environment, and fan bases, have a deep hatred for Boston, sports teams, and subsequently Boston sports teams athletes… So Tatum gets overlooked, due to jealousy.

      That's slightly true, at least in some sectors of the media, but not even close to the biggest reason. Let's stop tugging the "feel sorry for ourselves" bell all the time, Boston.

    The Celtics had ‘too much’ success too early with a young Tatum and Brown.
    What I mean by that is, regardless of what people will tell you, they expect progress to be linear. When linear progress means a finals berth or championship, and you don’t achieve that for multiple years, you start to not measure up to the idea that people have of you in their minds. Completely undeservedly, of course. But like we’re seeing with AE in Minny now, the media wants more than anything to anoint the next guy, and anyone who doesn’t meet that largely arbitrary standard, is painted as falling short in some way or another.
    Now, because expectations were all over the place for years, people can’t just celebrate what Tatum and the Celtics have achieved, because no one besides those who are really plugged in to the team, understand how they got to this point. So somehow even achieving what everyone expected you to achieve is somehow a failure.

      It’s funny, I agree with all this, but GSW had growing pains… namely Steph’s ankles… how fast did that group win 2-3 years? They forget the Celtics had 3 different head coaches the in the 3 years prior to winning the chip… has anyone else ever done that??

    The fact is tatum is tim duncan of this era and the celtics are looking like the spurs of this era... the media wants drama and stories the celtics are the same old story they been blowing teams out for years been to 2 out of the last 3 finals and 6 out of the last 8 ECF and dont look like they slowing down anytime soon thats not good for the media who needs a new storyline... lookat everything tatum done in his career and realize he only two years older then maxey and Ant and the same age as shai... he should be talked about like this is his league but the media will never give him that 😢

      That's very true. I've always told people that the Celtics are only newsworthy when they lose. I mean look at the nuclear attempt the media tried to make to suggest that the two Jays were jealous of each other. It's quite pathetic really

  • @mctaguer

    Let's be clear: if Tim Duncan played now, he'd be in EXACTLY the same boat. Tatum's too normal, too ordinary of a dude in real life, uncontroversial, not mouthy like Ant, no grumpy chip like JB, and he doesn't have a skill that makes people go "wow," he just is excellent all-around. It's a lot of little things; no One Reason. I know, we live in an age of Three-Syllable Answers for all of life's mysteries. But we all know deep inside that's BS.

    respect is given to people who are displaying skills that are so difficult to guard and people just don't think he is showing that to people. many did not like MJ but because he is so,so,so,so good people has to respect his game!!!!! if JT just sharpens his shooting from deep or from inside the 3 people will RESPECT his game even if they dislike his antics if there is or his style as a player or personality!!!!! it is in TATUM to demand respect by playing the game at the SUPER highest level which requires tons of preparation, practice and sacrifices!!!!!

  • @BCSully83
    @BCSully83 6 дней назад

    Celtics fan here. Tatum should absolutely get more respect, but I get why he doesn't. It's not right, the disrespect is coming from people who don't see everything he does for this team, but I do understand it. They've all seen his shot go cold, and for long stretches. We've seen this team, in previous years, blow HUGE leads and lose multiple games, while JT has been unable to hit the big shot. Even in the Cavs game 2 days ago, he missed the wide open 3 to win in regulation. He hit the OT game-winner, but if he missed it, or if we lost another way, that miss in regulation would stick to him way more than it would to other players. Brockman himself once called Tatum "the most overrated superstar in the league" during one of his long rough patches.
    I think JT deserves a lot more respect, but I do understand why he doesn't get it. If he can just not fall into one of his slumps this year, people will come around. But if he does it again, and spends a few weeks here and a few weeks there missing too many shots superstars are expected to make, even if tge Celtics repeat, the disrespect will continue.

    He also plays while Jokic is in his prime; an era with more top talent than ever. But let's be fair: Jokic might be better than EVER this year (so long as he doesn't miss a ton of games) and clearly carries his team, which is still a contender. And look at HIS numbers--he's AVERAGING a triple double. And this isn't the Oscar Robertson Era. There's no shame in Tatum not winning MVP, but he damned well needs to be Top 3 in voting.

    It's not hate at all lol...Tatum has failed under the brightest lights. Its facts. The reason y Bron & MJ is even an argument is because Bron is 4-10 in the finals. If he had a winning record or went undefeated he would b the goat undeniable! Tatum has bricked in clutch moments, turned into a turnover machine in big games, even when he did get that lil playing time in the Olympics HE WAS TRASH. JAYLEN BROWN was the best player for the Cs during their championship run ECF & FINALS MVP BECAUSE HE STEPPED UP WHEN IT COUNTED THE MOST. JT makes everything look EXTRA GOOD yes to get there but when ur there u gotta be the best & his heart isn't dawg enough to seal the deal..... yet... this year in the playoffs we will see if Tatum truly gets over that real hump that is him not being mentally strong enough in the biggest moments. For me he would have to win the chip again & be finals MVP to earn that true respect..bonus points would be MVP &/or ECF MVP to pad that respect with the chip. But then & ONLY then will people truly not gonna be able to say sh*t abt the boy!
