INGREDIENTS
●4 cups all-purpose flour(sifted)
●2 teaspoons salt
●1½ teaspoon baking soda
●1¾cups buttermilk
●2 tablespoons melted butter
●1 egg
●1⅓cups raisins/sultanas
OPTIONAL 1 Tbsp sugar (if you like a bit of sweetness in your bread)
METHOD
Preheat oven to 165°C and butter a 10-inch baking mold/tin/cast iron (or any similar baking dish).
In one bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda.
Add the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
Use a rubber spatula or hand to mix into a slightly wet dough.
Add the raisins/sultanas (OPTIONAL)
If dough is sticky, sprinkle with a little flour, shape into a ball with your hands
Transfer dough ball to prepared dish. Use a knife to score on the top of the bread loaf (this will help the center bake).
Bake at 165°C for 35-40 minutes until the loaf is golden.
To test for doneness, tap the bottom of the loaf - it should sound hollow. Allow to cool slightly before slicing.
