I've been planning a "memories" book as an anniversary gift for my husband. Initially was planning just regular coptic stitch using our wedding colors. I love this idea! Now I need to decide whether I should use our initials, wedding date or the number of years we've been married.
Jennifer you are a very talented young Lady and to share this video with us viewers is absolutely awesome. Thank you for showing all the close ups as well as talking it through, you may not be aware of this, but you have given me confidence to try and make some of the things that you do, purely because you give clear instructions and, of course, the close ups. Thank you so much.
I just got to know your channel. I learned kettle stitch and french binding. I find this new hobby exquisite. It is cheap ( a total of $35 for both paper, thread, cardboard and tools), very fancy, but most importantly, it is one of the most profitable. I bought 2000 sheets of paper. Folding one in half gets me 4 pages. I have 8000 pages. For $35. A cheap shop next to me sells 120 pages long empty notebooks (which are exactly the same format as the ones I can bind myself for $2 each) : $100 would be necessary for me to get 8000 pages worth of them. I get to only spend ~1/3 of it. I love it. Thank you
This is incredible! I tried the letter "K" for my friend before this came out and messed up in the middle... I had to tie a knot inside and loop through the same hole again so the thread won't come off or look shabby when I was doing yhe diagonal part. I may not have been good at explaining this but all I want to say is I had a really fun time making that book and now that you have posted this, with your tips, I am gonna try and make even better journals. Jennifer, you're the best!
I'm binge watching a bunch of book binding videos with the express purpose of making a custom dnd journal, and after watching this, the temptation to be so extra as to write my character's name in the stitching along the spine is palpable. Or to be even more extra I could write it in goddamn elven for no reason. Downside: Last time I hand bound a book was 8 years ago, and it looked really bad. Granted, I was 12. I would hope my hand eye coordination and general motor skills have improved at least a little, especially since I got really into hand stitching about 3 years ago. But am I willing to take that gamble, especially since I plan on aging every page one at a time? Who's to say. Only time will tell.
I've been musing what to do with the binding for my nibling's sketchbook (A5 landscape with some smaller papers inside some of the signatures), and now I'm very tempted to just go with her name: Iris
I just want to say this is an amazing idea, I'm binge watching your book binding videos and learning so much and feeling so inspired! Ive only done single signature saddle stitching so far but you're making me feel like I can tackle bigger projects like this! Thanks so much for such an amazing channel!
I think names are an obvious idea for the word. I tried doing something like this last year, but it didn't work. Your loops at the beginning and for certain letters made all the difference. Brilliant! and thank you.
This is genius!!! I was gonna make my cousin a junk journal for Christmas but this is so tempting!!! Great idea!! Thank you for sharing it with us!!! So many exclamation marks! 🙃😅😆
I'm thinking of making some of these for my sister and my mum, and having the word "CREATE" on both. Thank you for sorting out their crushable Christmas presents....
Hello dear...my nephew is off to Uni this September and I thought I might make him a hard cover for a paperback book he requested for his 18th birthday... so I discovered your channel when I put "make hard cover for paperback" or something like that - having found the clip I needed, your calming voice was like meditation! Which I shall no doubt need as I scream in frustration when I find it fiddly and difficult in practice something which you make seem so effortlessly easy on film! A bit like exercise tapes!! So I cast around a bit and encountered this delightful suggestion - so me being me I shall now have to embroider something on the cover like "learn" or "flourish" but in Latin or Old English given he's doing Medieval and Modern Languages.. ..I think using the words as binding may be a step too far😆
This is so dope! I’m in the process of completing my Ancestors table. I’m going to attempt “Ancestors” wish me luck! Thank you for such a detailed video
Tnaks for that great idea!! I was already planning to coptic stich some personnal drawing journals for my nephews, but writing their name will be the special touch that'll make it extra!!
I have a bookbinding project for work (a going away gift). I'm so excited to try this out! But I'm also nervous considering the word is a really long name. At least it will be an adventure!
I used your travelers journal tutorial a few years back to make a music book for my character at the medieval faire (I was on cast not just going out there taking audiences away from people). I've been wanting to improve upon it and was thinking about using coptic stitch instead of removable signatures of the travelers journal. It would be so cute to stitch "TUNES" or "MUSIC" with maybe lil music notes on the end of the spine!! I've got other projects to do first but this has got me thinking...
I really like this project. I have followed your tutorials and learnt the stitch from them. Would I be correct that while stitching …even though the word has been transferred to the spine it may be necessary at times based on the letters "make " them fit by following the shape of the letter and not so much the actual punched hole……?
I used your ribbon tutorial as inspiration to make something like this a few years ago and I definitely could've benefitted from some of the info in this video lol Gives me the inspiration to try it out again :D
thanks for the inspiration! i might have to make myself a notebook with bound my Word for 2022 (bloom) on it. already looking forward to your next video
I have a question. Could you do this kind of binding and overlay some sort of leather(or something like leather) over it, heat it to help shape to the letters of the binding like how you can put ridges in books? So it has a labled spine?
I know this is an older video, but when you're using a signature as a cover, what do you do about the patterned page(cover pattern) that shows up a few pages in? Do you just leave it or is there a way to get rid of it?
A question for SeaLemon: Sorry that this is random to ask here, but I was looking into PVA glue and I was wondering if there is a way to dye that glue? I am wanting to make notepads with red glue or blue glue, but I was wondering how you'd go about doing that. Thanks!
I don't know about canvas, but I have bound my old journals using single sheets of paper before. However, for large numbers of pages, it is a PAIN to stitch thread into the back of every single sheet of paper. The last time I did this, I bound about 400 sheets of paper, and stitching them all together too about 8 hours over several days. Hope that helps!
jennifer made a tutorial for single stitch binding thick paper ruclips.net/video/04vt8YfT7XM/видео.html i have a little sewing suggestion for thick materials: if you own more than one needle, longer ones are easier to hold, and thinner ones are easier to pass through (it depends on the holes and the thread too)
I was thinking "but how do the signatures not go out of alignment?" but it occurred to me, if i want to guarantee that won't happen, I can have vertical lines of holes that go through all of the signatures on either end as end caps that ensure alignment, and then put whatever I want in between...
You are fckng amazingggg!! He hecho varias de las encuadernaciones que has enseñado pero esto es otra cosa. I will try it for sure. Thank you! I love you and i love your channel. You are sooo brilliant!
Do you find binding easier with a curved needle versus a straight needle? I have noticed you using a curved more in your tuts, so I’m guessing you do lol
From the thumbnail, I'd say YES you can bind a book with letters. That's SO cool!!!

You could do the year you got married
What a great way to make personalized gifts for folks.

*starts brainstorming words that would fit on a spine*

Beautiful!! I absolutely love your videos and instruction!! I would stitch "CREATE" "RECIPES" "REDEEM" "TRAVEL"
Great Binding. It's harder than it looks, but after a few tries it gives a great result.

I've been trying to figure out how to bind different shapes/letters for so long!! Thank you so much for the great tutorial!!
I started my yoga teacher training and I need a note book! I'm gonna write yoga! 🎉🎉
This is so dope! I’m in the process of completing my Ancestors table. I’m going to attempt “Ancestors” wish me luck! Thank you for such a detailed video
I haven't watched it yet and I LIKE it A LOT
Omg, this is gonna be awesome, I can FEEL IT!
Tnaks for that great idea!! I was already planning to coptic stich some personnal drawing journals for my nephews, but writing their name will be the special touch that'll make it extra!!
Cant wait, this looks so amazing *o*! Stitching the books title on its back is one of my ultimate bookbinding dreams!

Music notes would be cool, or an Instrument you play.
Finally!! I have been following your channel since 2014 and waiting for this binding tutorial since you posted ribbon coptic binding tutorial 😍
Wow, Miss Jennifer, just WOW. I'm gotta watch it again.... ❤️
I really like this project.
I have followed your tutorials and learnt the stitch from them.

So excited for this. Will not be able to join the live stream due to me living in Australia but can't wait to watch first thing tomorrow.
Wow...saw u on Insta..came here ..double wow !!❤️
I used your ribbon tutorial as inspiration to make something like this a few years ago and I definitely could've benefitted from some of the info in this video lol
Gives me the inspiration to try it out again :D
This is an interesting way to valorize your personalization work.
Wow, what an idea!
Going to try this out for my final project in class… I can’t wait!! Lovely video as always!!
This is brilliant! I love it. Can’t wait to try it.
thanks for the inspiration! i might have to make myself a notebook with bound my Word for 2022 (bloom) on it. already looking forward to your next video

What a great, creative idea. Thank you so much for sharing!
That’s a beautiful idea for a customized notebook. Thanks for the video 🥰
Hmmm this is giving me Christmas gift ideas! Thank you!
That is so creative! I love how it turned out.
Have you made a video about attaching end papers to Coptic stitched books?
Very creative. Thank you.
Great tutorial we’ll done🤩🤗
terrific vid! I’m going to use this method on my very next book! big thanks!🦌💌❤️📚
I can’t wait to try this one!!! Thank you!!! 🤩
That's SOOOO cool omg I can't wait to try this! I've looking for an idea for a special notebook I can make as a gift for a teacher
omg this looks amazing, might convince me to actually try binding !!
Wow, that's so cool, what a lovely way to personalise a book 😍
FASCINATING!!! 💖📙
غاية الإبداع و الروعة 🤙
Definitely will try this!!
Would you try making a resin notebook cover?
Wow i didn't think this was possible
Do you think you could do this over a soft leather cover? Or would the signatures need to be exposed?
this is so cool! i’m totally going to do this for my sister for christmas :)
Thinking of making personalized journals for the whole family for Christians using this method.
I know this is an older video, but when you're using a signature as a cover, what do you do about the patterned page(cover pattern) that shows up a few pages in? Do you just leave it or is there a way to get rid of it?
Great idea!
So cool, thank you so much!
:) If we are using a hard cover, do we double the thread like in the coptic stitch video, or do we do it single like here?
This is going to be great!!!
what a lovely idea!

Absolutely beautiful!!! 😍
Questions:
Is there potentially a way to bind a book out a hard straight up canvas and single sheets of paper instead of signatures?

You are sooo brilliant!
Wow!
So cool!
Can you do a tutorial on how to do this on a hard cover? I tried it and the stitches by the covers don't blend in to the letters 😩

Hello, hope you are well. I thought this looked interesting but I don't have a curved needle is a straight needle okay?
Yes 👍
@@SeaLemonDIY thankss
Ah super coooool
does anyone know whats causing my bookbinded books to have large gaps in the middle of the paper pages?
Cool😃
Do you find binding easier with a curved needle versus a straight needle? I have noticed you using a curved more in your tuts, so I’m guessing you do lol
💖
❤❤❤
Very beautiful , but too complicated for me 😭
Can anyone suggest a word to write on birthday to gf
