I love this idea! This would be a really cool way to create a travel journal, making covers out of destination postcards! Thank you so much for making videos where you experiment and sharing your creative ideas with us!
This looks like a fun stitch! I also like the idea of using postcards as covers. I’m getting some travel-related ideas for how to use a little book made with postcard covers. I’ll have to let that percolate for a bit. Thanks for the tip on using plastic canvas to practice bookbinding stitches! I hadn’t thought of it, but once you tou stated it and showed your practice piece for this stitch, it made perfect sense.
The practice screen is such a great idea, and the book looks cute. I really love that you always show the sewing up close and clearly as well as use bright colored thread. Some videos i watch i can't tell what's going on when it's white thread on white paper and the camera is so far away.
I feel like you've invented something new, but I don't know much about bookbinding stitches style to confidently say its brand new. But awesome experiment! Keep it up
Thank you for going into the binding process more, it is helpful for me, being new to book binding. I love the idea of using postcards for the covers! Very nice video, thank you.
Can you do a video on how to recover old paperbacks or damaged/ugly hardbacks? I have a bunch of discarded library books but would love to give them new life with a nice cover :-)
I think I've seen that on another channel, paperbacks into hardcovers, hardcovers given new covers, and I think even e-books printed and bound into physical form. Try searching those subjects. It may depend on how the original was bound if it's possible
@@fox-n-done This video example does not have any spine. this video has signatures sewn to each other.. To offer more sturdiness and protection of the threads against wear and tear, if there was a spine and it was covered it would just be more durable. Depends on what your purpose is and how long you want it to last. Your question makes it seem like you don't know what the spine of a book is.
Wow that’s incredible! I didn’t know there was a book binding hole punching template product! I love this but it looks way to hard for my simple brain lol. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for that wonderful background murmur of music! this had an unexpectedly relaxing effect on me :) I think it persuaded me that the stitch is doable and I'll manage :))) love your tutorials!
I think that the mesh practice board has potential in a bookbinder's studio to frame as a "Sampler" like embroiderers make. Use different colors of thread.
I absolutely love all your tutorials! They’re so much fun and inspiring. I followed your DIY Coptic Stitch sketchbook tutorial last night and made my first watercolor sketchbook... but I couldn’t find anything to wrap the cover with, so I used 100% cotton from a fabric shop. It’s usually used for making pants. Do you think it’ll be safe for my paintings? I couldn’t find out if it was acid-free.
LOVE the idea of practicing new fancy stitches using the plastic mesh! Brilliant I would call this a cat whisker stitch :-) oh, and this board certified Lactation Consultant is highly entertained by the "boobinder's knot"
Hi, Iove your channel and have made several Coptic stitch journals from your instructions. I do mixed media work in my journals, and I'm wondering if there's a way to put spacers in the signatures. Currently my journals end up not closing....
I want to make some craft projects doing bookmarks, notepads, notebooks. Stuff like those. But I just have scissors, papers, tape, and glue. Since I don’t have the right tools and can’t afford them, what is the best to way to make these to the point they don’t look crappy homemade?
Isabelle, what type of glue and tape do you have and what type and color of paper? Also do you have some old magazines or junk mail ads? What do you have to color or write with? Any paints, markers, colored pencils or crayons?
@@LadyMcN regular white glue, white duct tape. Nothing else special just whatever type of paper I already have which isn’t much. My first 3 were crappy. No other tools. I’m learning and use whatever I have around the house.
@@isabellepoynter5193 Thanks for the quick reply. Is your paper plain or lined? How about pens, pencils, crayons etc. The reason I am asking detailed questions is because I want to make a video shout out to crafters challenging them to use only the types of materials you have available to you. Not everyone has or can get the things shown in many of the videos on RUclips. But I am sure a lot of these crafters can make some lovely, creative things with limited supplies.
Fantastic but I laughed more than I should have at “boobinder’s” knot! 😂
I think she invented that knot 😁
OMG I just realized your comment wasn't a joke. I was typing so fast I forgot the k... Haha! At least it will give viewers a little laugh 🤣
@@SeaLemonDIY it happens but that typo was just too cute

That stitch is really pretty, the knot to stop the needle falling is also a good tip, thank you

Nerdfordge just did this with a lord of the rings but she goes all out hand sculpting and dying leather and adding LED lights to it.
DAS Bookbinding is a wonderful resource for bookbinding and book repairs here on RUclips. You should check him out!

Your videos are my bridge over troubled waters..learning is essential & journaling boosts retention 🥥🍞💋💌👍
The mesh canvas practice board is genius
YES! I'm wondering if you could even use it AS the spine with a finer mesh instead of poking all those holes into cardboard

Finished. I can see it will take a lot of practice to get that tension right! But it wasn't tooo bad for a first attempt.
